I agree with you about SmackDown needing more top stars other than Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns outside of The Bloodline storyline however I don't think it's possible with the way Triple H is running the show. The way he presents it wrestlers are only a top star if you interact with The Bloodline. There also the issue that despite WWE still having the brand split in effect it doesn't really feel like 2 separate yet equal brands as it did in the 2000s and mid to late 2010s. They need to bring back brand exclusive PLE and have a bigger roster for SmackDown equal to Raw, then they can have multiple top stars besides Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns, Bloodline 2.0, Kevin Owens, and Randy Orton. I'm talking about guys like Santos Escobar, Andrade, LA Knight, Logan Paul, Carmelo Hayes, Bobby Lashley, all names who should be in the main event but aren't because of the previous names I've mentioned. Same thing would benefit Raw and it wouldn't just be about Judgement Day, Seth Rollins, CM Punk, Drew McIntyre, and Gunther. Guys like Karrion Kross, Bronson Reed, and Odyssey Jones should be in the main event scene as much as Jey Uso, Sami Zayn, and Sheamus often are.

I feel Roman overshadowing Cody Rhodes happened long before he returned. Basically, when the audience was chanting his name for months. But as we've been seeing for from Smackdown as it pertains to Cody's title reign, we can already see the problems not just with the reign but the show itself. There was a period years ago where both Raw & Smackdown were competitive with each other, it wasn't as clear as to what was the A or B show. With the Netflix deal for Raw and a deeper roster, you can see that all the attention is on Raw to make it the top show again, while Smackdown is running on autopilot. As we shift to the discussion to Cody for the closing statements, there's no bigger clue that shows how weak the Smackdown roster is when the world champion is handing out title shots and begging his friends to challenge him, when it should be the opposite, or earned through a number 1 contenders match. The way they booked Cody's next challenger was baffling, made even worse when Kevin Owens said he didn't deserve it. The rumors that Raw will end up with Roman & possibly The Rock at the forefront of this Netflix deal seems to get more true by the day just based on what they've been doing with both shows.

Where I stand on the problem with WWE is that they don’t wanna make too many superstars popular and then have nothing for them to do. The blue brand was the popular and most talked about,and the most exciting brand because of Roman and the Bloodline. That's because of the number of superstars that were on the roster, that had the opportunity to challenge him when he was the universal champion. That failed to remain at the top of the priority list when he became a double champion. Cody needs to be following the same blueprint that Roman made for any future champion because now he should’ve had Raw and Smackdown superstars coming after him after he beat Roman Reigns because it definitely felt like nobody could beat Roman at all. But with Cody being the new champion, there should’ve been a line of superstars willing to challenge him. But because Smackdown is heavily lacking a top star rival for the championship, fans will want Roman to win either the WWE title or the world heavyweight title so he can keep that star power going and they know it will hurt Cody as champion.
I've been out of wrestling for a long time. I got back in as the Rock returned before Wrestlemania. Cody is not an interesting character now that he's champion. He's finished the story, and his title reign is boring. He's yet to face a single credible threat since taking the title. I can forgive predictable matches immediately following Wrestlemania where his reign would obviously not be so short, but by Money in the Bank, he should be facing opponents that can legitimately beat him. They need to build up some heels that have actual aura. Solo is not cutting it.
