I've worked 40 years in main dealers and finally threw the towel in (retired) in July and the biggest factor in me taking early retirement was customer attitudes, demands, arrogance, unrealistic expectations and worst of all lies i just couldn't put up with it anymore and the feeling now is fantastic,i dont miss anything about the job except work colleagues.
I’m sorry, but James is Brent. His mannerisms, even the comment about the van dealer being a “linear mile” from the other dealership. Genuinely love it.
I love this podcast. Great job Joe you have such a knack for getting people together and talking and sharing how it all works. Thanks to Robert and James
Another outstanding podcast that really got my mind working and gave me plenty to consider, especially as someone who's planning on starting out in the very near future, especially the AutoTrader side of things.
Another very enjoyable and informative pod cast especially James story and he's right about people in general shame lovely cars couldn't join you There is definitely a lot of mileage in this new series so many tips coming up every week
It's so nice to see you guys chatting very informative I deal with the public and have done for all my life I think there expectation far exceeds reality great podcast for three lovely guys
I’m not in the car trade but found that really interesting and love this format. All humble lads who are still learning themselves but willing to help each other.
I've been clearing out old stock, some 5 years, on a swift, it was full paint, new gearbox, mot, I bobbed out in and it was cutting out, took 600 quid on auto trader, lost 2k,on a merc with a steering column immob fault it was off to a Mercedes breaker, blew 1200 quid, a few have gone on face book, but your looking at 400 quid and they still want to drive away(!)
Still have to cover rights on business to business van / car sales - sales goods act 1979 still applies and there is a legal precedent where buyer is deemed a non expert ie their business is unrelated to motor trade they still have rights… the case law is “R&B Custom Brokers v United Dominions Trust Ltd - 1998” It’s amazing you guys are in the motor trade and do not know this..
He's bang with Autotrader left in 2016 never been back. Autotrader digital started around 2002 it was £120.00 a month for 10 car spaces when I left it was 2016 it was £750.00 for 10 cars a total rip-off. In the 1970s,80s,90s car dealers never used Autotrader and those were the best and most profitable years in the motor trade they all sold off forecourts to passing people I watch other dealers pay thousands saying Autotrader is the market leader when you ask them why, Autotrader told me!! Wake-up and build your own digital space
I left a message on Ep 1 about this as massive scope Brain storming and been away last 4 weeks just catching up its great as i had own Business closed it 4 years back early retirement but always love peoples ways off i call turning the Dimond as each facet you guys work from all selling cars but like a artist painting the canvas a different painting Keep on rolling
Love this channel B2b if you get a product on finance you get loads of security i paid £45k on a truck and problems with it after day one and after 3 months got my money back even if the seller wont give you it back as they wasn't
My mate sunk his boat (drunk) blocked the ouse up, had to be air lifted off, if insurance hadn't covered him, he'd gave been bankrupted, so maybe avoid boat rental. As you say it's customers all round, I packed up in the 90s as couldn't stand the issues, different problems then to now of course, I got back into it in the noughties and it's even worse, like your guy you get fed up with people, I'm great with people when they're OK but unfortunately a lot aren't and it's very trying. Unfortunately for whatever reason customers don't want to leave you with anything in the deal.
This litraly looks like dealer therapy that's t new me for the podcast CAR DEALER THERAPY 😂 you should get a joe public/customer on the pod cast dealer vs customer session expectaion vs reality from both points of view 👌
Playing devils advocate, as im now in a situation of needing a second hand car, I think some (not all) of these difficult customers is down to the cost of living. People don't have money to throw around, so they want something that isn't going to need warranty claims for not much money. I understand the difficulty of this as a cheap car is old and or high mileage, so it's a higher chance of having issues. But Ive also seen the monthly costs of purchasing a car and it's a lot, even for an old car.
Great podcast. Do not get into rentals. The majority of customers will not look after the vehicles. It will end up stressing you out. Just like housing, its all a numbers game. 2 people will look after your property and 3 people will wreck them. Its just life. Remeber KISS ( Keep it so simple )
When you do your thumb nail pics if there’s a person in photo. Wear a vibrant coloured shirt. Trucker Tim. Always wears a bright t shirt on. But on his videos never wears one on his channel I do it with marketing I do
Interesting comments from James on Auto Trader and dropping them. It is my go to car porn site and have bought cars as result of Auto trader however my most recent car bought a few months ago was a spur of the moment car change from seeing a FB ad and that was from a main BMW dealer. See you 3 play call of duty could be a funny YT episode.
I don't like people much either it's what's stopped me owning my own public facing business. I find half the population are selfish lying toads and if you get loads of them I couldn't cope with it. Glad I'm not alone....😂 but I guess you pay people to deal with those people. Great podcast btw
I didnt enjoy this one so much. unsure why but James does not seem a warming kinda Guy, would put me off buying, where as Dave and Chops and Robert seem more the nice guy down the pub geezers .. just my thoughts,
@@FactTV-rj6sh All for the camera,i found him very hard to deal with and he just kept on about his previuos job role and his staff whatever that means.
Thought you've been a gym rat Joe, big arms and shoulders bud, I was at the gym early but not getting to the pitch till 10.30,11am and had to knock it on the head, St away your out of shape (!)
If I was only listening to this I would swear you had Ricky Gervaise on the chat!! Lol Great content and nice to see some new faces & stories
Definitely. His Brent impression must be phenomenal!
I can't unsee your comment! Bang on. Maybe he's a family member 😂
Me too Ricky
Haaa haaa me too ,I recon theres a few golden globes and baftas behind

James , love the respect you show your team..
I love this podcast. Great job Joe you have such a knack for getting people together and talking and sharing how it all works. Thanks to Robert and James
Had 16 years owning & running a retail business. I can wholeheartedly agree about the nature of "people". I also have many stories I could tell! :)
James is just a chilled out entertainer
Ricky Gervais is a car dealer in Plymouth? The voice is spot on lol.
😂 I did warn him these comments would be coming. He said he’s going to start working on the Brent dance 🕺 😂
Rob Cubitt is our Motor Trade hero 😍😍😍
Fantastic episode this Joe. A huge insight into what you have to deal with on a day to day basis. James and Rob are two genuine lads too.
Another outstanding podcast that really got my mind working and gave me plenty to consider, especially as someone who's planning on starting out in the very near future, especially the AutoTrader side of things.
There should be a ‘lemons only’ auction for the ones you cant shift or fix!
Another lemon! . Nice. One . Great to hear you being honest

Another good one to watch and listen to,missed james and dave but hopefully be a full house on the next one
Super refreshing to hear you all put your team before the customers.
Just kept chuckling to myself even though the content was great... David Brent selling cars in my head HILARIOUS 😂😂😂😂😂

Good honest chat 👍👏👏👏👏👏👏
Love the show guy's.
Great podcast.
Another very interesting pod cast - the mentor idea could be great
I was listening to rather than watching the podcast and initially thought Ricky Gervais was on this week as James sounds just like him .😂😂😂

Well you should have done a vehicle score on your part exchange
Would that tell me it had a battery drain?
If it goes tits up you could do Ricky Gervais impressions
