I don’t know if this would be something you’d like, but the short story the drowning faith takes place between before book 3 and is in nezha’s pov. You get more insight to how he feels about rin

Oh that might be helpful! I typically don’t read short stories but I may for this.

I think your assessment of Rin and Nezha is correct but I guess the purpose is kind of off. Nezha to Rin represents the same kind of adherence to structure, an ease of existence when a balance that’s struck is met and him simply being water to her fire is that. Rin and Nezha aren’t really meant to exhibiting feelings for each other, Rin is just mesmerized by white he represents and what having him, Kitay and Venka means for how she’s grown to view the world!

The Dragon Republic was my favorite in the series! I'm glad you liked it, also you reminded me of some great scenes I forgot.

I haven’t read it because The a poppy War was just…too much. But also because I didn’t feel connected to almost any of the characters (except the Gatekeeper, I really wanted more of him!)? I haven’t heard anyone else talk about that distance between them and the reader, so I’m glad to know I’m not alone in that. Looking forward to a gush about the third book so I can know how it ends without going through it myself 😅
