The Coronavirus outbreak shows it is important for western corporations to move a decent portion of their factories out of China --- to lower the risks of having halts in their production
Not to move out of China but to start investing in US and possibly more North American operations as well as trying to provide quality ways for employees to work at home for those able to. -In the US we now see we need affordable schooling to be home based or at the very least have that option and that a college edu is not needed to be as expensive to get quality training and edu. -We now see we NEED US companies to invest in American supply chains and manufacturing in case 1 country like China experiences an outbreak -We also see that a baseline of healthcare is needed for all along with sick pay for every job -And we now see how US companies need to stop stock buybacks and start investing in a surplus as well as everyday Americans neededing to have an emergency fund instead of out of control spending especially using debt to do so but this def seems to apply to businesses who are now asking for bailouts because they have such minimal cash flow in reality -not to mention more strict laws against our politicians owning and selling/buying stocks -AND lastly every American NEEDS to stick up a years supply of tp
kevin kwan everything is overseas because corporations prefer to pay workers ten cents, instead of a liveable wage that Americans would want. That is why nothing is made in the US. Corporate greed. Why throw away millions of dollars when you can pay nearly nothing to workers overseas. That is why we outsourced jobs in the first place; the cost benefit analysis was obvious. Unless Americans agree to work for ten cents on the dollar and forego unions, this will never stop. It’s why we are rich. Rather, why the 1% is rich and the rest of us grunts want jobs that have long since been taken overseas. Greed like that isn’t dissimilar than the greed of selling toilet paper on amazon for 300$, or 70$ for a travel size of Purell. It is how the US market works and how we, as Americans, work. We take the cue from businesses that pay ten cents for the Chinese to construct most of the iPhones, while continuing to charge more and more each year for a damn phone.

As someone who works with Amazon, these delays are affecting everything from Amazon sellers to logistics companies to wholesale suppliers. Wholesale suppliers are being inundated with orders to get products back in stock, some suppliers have had to shut down operations if they don't sell essential goods and are located in a state with a mandatory shelter in place. Logistics companies are having to move unprecedented amounts of products to stores to keep up with increased demand. This situation is going to have major ripple effects throughout the economy.

karimbulldogs The question is - are you willing to pay much more for the same product? It may be easy to say you prefer Made in America products, but how does that translate to actual spending behavior? There are already tons of Made in America products from high end brands, but I doubt most Americans are willing to spend a premium on them when there are tons of affordable alternatives available. A pair of shoes from Allen Edmonds costs you at lease several hundred dollars to start and they are all Made in America. A similar looking pair from a cheaper brand may be Made in China, but they cost you $80. I don’t know which one you would buy, but I bet most Americans would buy the cheaper alternative. This is why it makes no sense to blame companies for manufacturing overseas or China for “stealing” American jobs. American consumers want things cheap and companies respond by cutting costs like moving manufacturing overseas. Don’t just talk; go ahead and start buying American/locally made products only and see how long you could last.
johnnyXXX I’m from Canada, and I do consciously chose North American products over commodities produced outside. I also don’t consume more than I need. If I were to buy shoes locally made, yes it would cost more but I bet you they’d last a whole lot longer than shoes made in Asia. The problem is people are hoarding and consuming way more than what they need and look for cheaper alternatives elsewhere.

The delays mean we have to order early, and give up to 10 days for delivery. I get much of my canned/boxed items online, much of it from Walmart.com, but a lot comes through Amazon, too. Just keep track of what you can order and through whom, and get your order in place with plenty of time. Bless Amazon workers and all those delivery people through UPS and others who never stop. It keeps me out of the crowded stores.

Realize that some people only shop through Amazon. Being handicapped it can be difficult to go out and online shopping has been a godsend to myself as well as many others. Many Amazon workers cannot afford to be without work and still have bills to pay and families to support. Sellers like the seller who sells boots have relied on Amazon sells as their only income and now have no income. I understand that this pandemic is having a negative effect on everyone across the planet and I cannot imagine losing my sole source of income, my job, or my source of shopping for the food and other necessities required to feed and care for myself and my family. This is a difficult situation we are all facing and we need to unite and bond as human beings instead of being so harsh and judging others when we havent been put in the situation these people are being put in and dont know how we would deal with what they are dealing with. I am sure they are doing their best given the circumstances being faced. I pray that this virus is short lived and that a cure or a vaccine be found soon so that we can all get back to life as we knew it prior to this pandemic. Always remember to wash your hands well cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing, something we have been taught to do for ages!!!

They are better than most, by leaps and bounds. But in my facility, where hundreds of people are held in close spaces to maximize productivity... if even one infected person gets in here, it’s going to spread like wildfire. There is not 6’ between us. There is not 4. And we wat to hire more people. No measures they take can prevent this, short of cutting staffing and rearranging the stations. They... are not doing that. *sigh... *

The "price gouging" has always been there. There has always been outlier items, priced many times its true value such as cereal for $180, I always thought maybe for the occasional buyer pressing the wrong buttons.
In the beginning of March amazon told all their employees that if they’re feeling sick or need to take care of someone who is then they are allowed to stay home. So many took advantage of this and started skipping. I work at an amazon warehouse and everyday it’s extremely empty, at least 50% of the employees don’t show up. It’s gotten a bit better ever since they announced the $2 raid for everyone and double pay for overtime (instead of the 50% more) but still many people not showing up. People not showing up to work plus the increase in demand, it’s amazing that amazon is even delivering as fast as they are.
I work for amazon (recently got hired in the beginning of March) in the full fillment center and I haven't been able to pick up a shift to work because all shifts are picked up before I'm able to get one. They raised the wage but managers tell us to wash hands and distance ourselves

@@emmanuelhtrevino IMO, if the market was truly free, there would be lots of competition all over the world manufacturing tech. Ironic how we get all our tech from a communist country, eh?
But what about American profit right? It's supposed to be good to offshore things so American companies can make more money and the benefits trickle down.
@@savagedragon79 Yeah, but _why_ is it only profitable to offshore manufacturing specifically to China and nowhere else? Granted, China is a developing country with much of its population living in poverty, so their labor costs are lower than in the West (and hopefully, industrialization and modernization will eventually improve the standard of living for the average Chinese up to the level of the west). Further, China lacks the environmental regulations we enjoy in the west, which also keeps their manufacturing costs lower (but causes China to be the worst contributor to climate change -- there is no free lunch). But you'd think other developing countries would also have competitive labor rates, right? Having China our only source of tech seems to be a big risk to our modern civilization, especially given that its economy is subject to the whims of a communist government.
I use amazon all the time, I do not mind waiting a few days longer for my stuff, let the workers take some time off or close a warehouse down if they need to.
As an Amazon employee, this is killing me. I work at a facility with no robotics at all. Oldest transship cross-dock facility in the network. Hundreds of strangers per shift. Nearly every box in here is touched twice. Most of us stand at a table 1 1/2’ long, facing an employee in the same setup, prepping or sorting packages. They sneeze, you get sneezed on. That’s it. Last shift, I got sneezed *on* 3 times, coughed near once. But no worries. They covered their mouth... with their clenched fist... held a few inches from their face. Not to mention, we do not get hot water in some bathrooms, and sanitizer does not penetrate sweat, so it is not a good replacement in this physically active environment. Also, we are mandated to use cloth gloves- and get only 1 pair per week. Great for catching and keeping germs right on your hands. And the air in many areas is stagnant. You can see it when you shake out a broom or in a sunbeam. The dust curls around the air and takes a while to settle. What happens when someone coughs in the break room? How long does it linger? Now we’ve had our first confirmed case in town here. And my mother is a over 60, and smoked for 40 years. I don’t know if she could shake covid-19 off. And I live with her. But we need money. But if I bring this home, I’ll never forgive myself. But if I stay home, we have nothing in savings anymore, and... goodness. My only option would be to gut my own 401k. All so that we can prep and sort the packages that more robotic facilities will need. Every facility... is not the same. Not like the ones in the vid. And yet we want to bring more people from town in... Pressing times. At least tomorrow, I’ll take the gamble...
UPSer here and we are union and trust me we asked for gloves and ppe, but contracts and the need to work keeps the PPE up to us workers. I feel like the union, which i love dont get me wrong drop the ball and could have done a better job for its workers all over.

And start making the things we need to survive and thrive in the USA not in others countries.
-We now see we NEED US companies to invest in American supply chains and manufacturing in case 1 country like China experiences an outbreak
-We also see that a baseline of healthcare is needed for all along with sick pay for every job
-And we now see how US companies need to stop stock buybacks and start investing in a surplus as well as everyday Americans neededing to have an emergency fund instead of out of control spending especially using debt to do so but this def seems to apply to businesses who are now asking for bailouts because they have such minimal cash flow in reality
-not to mention more strict laws against our politicians owning and selling/buying stocks
-AND lastly every American NEEDS to stick up a years supply of tp
I’m never buying another chinese product. We started a war after 9/11, now more people have died and it’s all China’s fault.
kevin kwan everything is overseas because corporations prefer to pay workers ten cents, instead of a liveable wage that Americans would want.
Even better if they move EVERYTHING out of China. We should only do business with democratic countries
I don’t think that will happen any time soon but everyone can dream-having hope and aspirations are good

Nothing but truth. Amazon is terrible place. They lie all the times.
Yep. My daughter started wearing a mask 3 weeks ago and was told to take it off by her supervisor because she could not hear her. Her supervisor mocked her for wearing a mask in front of other employees she was suppose to train. A week later they are now required to wear a mask and have temp checks. They also now have 24 cases as of April 16. How many more since? They have NOT closed down to clean or anything else.
As a grocery and gourmet seller on amazon, I can say that we have never ever seen the rise in a sale like this even in great festival sales.

I work as a delivery associate for a third party service that delivers amazon packages, we have to be around amazon workers at the hub where we pick up our load, not only that people are still ordering non essential items so its putting us at risk for stupid stuff, they only care about profits not the employees

Start making products locally and not depend on others?
Amen. I've been saying this for years.
karimbulldogs The question is - are you willing to pay much more for the same product?
Sadly that is not the way the world works .

Many Amazon workers cannot afford to be without work and still have bills to pay and families to support.

Yes MY ORDERS ARE TAKING FOREVER😤😤😤 IM SWITCHING TO EBAY😪😪😪
F*CK AMAZON
amazon worker should unionize to put the companies in a pickle
UPSer here and we are union and trust me we asked for gloves and ppe, but contracts and the need to work keeps the PPE up to us workers. I feel like the union, which i love dont get me wrong drop the ball and could have done a better job for its workers all over.
Amazon is giving us a 2 dollar raise until may, and making us work MET mandatory extra time
David Crockett and amazon is not practicing social distancing in the workplace. Who cares about the money if you get sick??!
David Crockett VET only at my station. double pay overtime in addition to the $2/hour...you better believe i’m taking advantage of all the VET!
cup technically they are trying, we have a thing called stand up where we all gather we are not doing anymore so it's something but not enough imo
I primarily use FBA for grocery and health supplements but now I'm doing seller fulfilled just because how fast items are selling. My business tripled in 2 weeks. It is hard to ship 500+ orders a day when your not used to it but I'm not complaining :). Sellers need to temporarily ship direct to customers.
I work in a FC as an Area Manager. I can't stress enough how grateful I am to the associates and cleaning staff that come in day in day out for work during this time. Their hard work is literally helping people in my own family who can't leave the house.
