I too am an educator who unknowingly has been doing this process in the classroom everyday. It's like triage sometimes. Now that I am semi retired I am trying to apply this strategy to our local homeless issue. I will be sharing this video with our county folks attempting to address this issue. The one rule you should add in your five steps is persistence. We can never stop advocating for the most vunerable among us. Thank you and be well.
What i am thinking about at least once a day, which is more of a dream than a plan: I will start my bachelor in social work this year, and i hope that after a few years of working as an social worker i could buy my parents farm (they wont farm forever because of health issues), and maybe i could start a social program there. Its a big farm with a big old house that used to be an old hotel. So maybe people in vulnerable life situations could life there for free and get a chance of getting into a better situation. We could all work together on the farm, have a huge garden and produce most of the food they need ourselves, which could help keep the cost down (because i am for sure not rich, and getting people to financially support programs like this is hard) . The farm has its own water spring too. So people could have an admittedly simple life there, but they could have a break from hunger and homelessness, maybe we could even have somebody there to help people educate themselves, maybe get better education and if they want to can move out from there and get a job somewhere else. Just like a safe space with no pressure, but with possibilities to get better. Animals are great at helping with traumas, and if the people want to work there as well, they would be able to feel like they have a purpose and helping each other out. But again, idk if this becomes is realistic one day..
This seems like a great idea! And while their living on the farm they learn to fortify the land and learn to make a living with the natural things of earth. I love this idea, my prayers are with you!
i have had almost this exact same idea.... there are other social workers out there who share your vision and dream, and I'm sure it could be incredible with the right planning and education. Best of luck!
Easy solutions, that bypass red tape, and can be implemented using what we have available. Basically reorganizing resources. Shuffling things around.. so that what is being unused is made available to use by those who can use it. At least, while it is being unused. Because there is a lot of resources sitting empty/being thrown away/ not being filled/ in need of care or to be occupied or used or maintained. Buildings don't like being empty... For example. People want to be given a job and a skill and a responsibility in exchange for housing, for example. Humans require purpose and AV area if focus and/or creativity. I've met a homeless man with a Masters in Theology, and a string of bad luck following a messy divorce. No one is immune to need and everyone has something to contribute. Goods and services for goods and services is how we used to do it anyway. One angle to approach things: simply organizing. Collecting and then matching. Facilitating the meeting and the making of mutually beneficial trades.

I enjoyed the video and learned a lot, however, I didn't get why the woman said she was your next of kin because you never said. So, I'm confused at why that bit of information was given.
@@mikewitzke8417 Actually, both of you are right. They need all 3. Many homeless need a purpose though, which means a 4th thing. Many homeless have often lost hold of their own lives and they need motivation/purpose. All 4 factors mean a whole different life for them. It's a shame that's not as commonly recognized as it should be.
@@Brobooke I totally agree, because just giving them a shelter with clothes, shoes, and food to eat doesn't mean it will change their mindset; their have got to be more that they are lacking. They need mental counseling that can help them to understand their true purpose in life. Allowing them to trust you enough to open up to help us and them to understand how they ended up being homeless in the first place. I say all of your responses are correct.
Societal problems are simply due to sin and iniquities. I truly believe that. Having things taken and not being made whole for it. I think the abundance of scornful women out there are a result of being betrayed by their flesh bonded husbands. Or worse. All stems from some kind of sin. This is a really great season to reconcile for our wrongs and try to do better.
Does the reason matter? We have to care about each other in a meaningful way. There's no time to point fingers anymore. Someone else's mess? Ok, fine. So be it. But i will still volunteer to help clean it up.

Set a measurable goal.
Appears to me that what homeless people need most is structure and discipline.
it appears to me that people without adequate shelter would actually need shelter most.
