Tatra V570 was a prototype early 1930s car developed by Hans Ledwinka. The aim of the construction team was to develop cheap people's car with an aerodynamic body. However the company's management decided that the revolutionary ideas introduced in the prototype should be introduced in class of large luxurious cars, and therefore the team abandoned the project of small cars in favour of Tatra T77, world's first serially produced aerodynamic car.
If TATRA would not have been on the Eastern side of Europe, I believe it would be one of the biggest car manufacturers of the world. The technology of the VW beetle is based on TATRA and the trucks are so overwhelming. Now adays TATRA is too good for the fast and Chinese products based time.
The project of small car was later continued and led to introduction of Tatra T97. The second V570 was built in 1933, two years before the first Vokswagen which bears a strong resemblance to the Tatra - it was misappropriated by Hitler and Dr. Porsche in circumstances about which the German company remains intensely sensitive to this day.
Model 77 @ 2:23 is export model? As I know Czech used to drive on left side of the road before ww2 and their cars were right hand drive, if that is correct? Anyway respect to Tatra and Praga for being so innovative, sadly most of their ideas were stolen by western auto makers. Greetings from Serbia
Yep, that left side driving thing is true, but not all vehicles were made with right side drive. And we had one curiosity, Tatra 77 had steering wheel in center. Actually we can say that the only good thing that Hitler brought to Czechoslovaki was right side driving.
Ehh, szkoda ze Tatra nie produkuje juz samochodow osobowych, to byly maszyny nie do zarzniecia, do tego mialy pazur. Tatra zarzucila tyle genialnych rozwiazan technicznych, ze nawet Niemcy sie chowaja, zdrowie kolesi z Koprivnic!
