My daughter in law, used to knit. While me and my son cooking Turkey on Thanks Giving morning, she was alone knitting. This is how I met her. I learned that she has a lot of anxiety and fear so knit. 10 years has past and she is not knitting any more and become a physical Therapist. I get how knitting calms people.
Knitting, keeps your mind occupied, with the task at hand. Not on, what’s happening around you.
I see what you mean: More proof that most shrinks and therapists are nuts.
Crocheting has been one of my most all time comfort tools, every thing good inside of me goes into it and I give completed gifts of pure love, joy and prayers to my family and friends.

My anxiety was through the roof during Covid.
To stay calm I started watching gardening videos. I dug up my lawn, created flower beds everywhere, learnt to install additional sprinklers, grow plants from seeds and so much more.
To this day I work in the garden every day after work, sometimes just 30 minutes, to calm my mind.
The neighbors are enjoying the flower beds too. It brings them joy. Caring is all about sharing!
I admire Michelle Obama beyond description. She was the most incredible First Lady this country has ever seen. She certainly left a hand print on my heart ... and she still does. ❤

@Donnell Okafor I admired Jackie in the day too, because as good little wives we were expected to decorate the house and support our hubby,,..(and ignore his infidelities)....but she was for our early times and she did not have the impact on our kids health and the support for our vets that Michelle was able to offer. I admire her strength when some horrible things were said out loud about her and her grace in shutting them down. Her 'when they go low...we go high...' gave us all a sense of empowerment!!

Knitting can be very therapeutic. But Michelle makes a good point--it is in the completion of something simple--start with a hat, not with a sweater--that provides that feeling of "I did it!". Because you have!

If there’s one word I could think of to define what the Obamas have meant to me and to my country it would be HOPE! They’ve always provided me with reassurance in the possibilities of HOPE! ❤️

We went from two wars to seven under Obama. He bombed so much that the military ran out of bombs. He had more whistleblowers tossed into jail than all other presidents _combined_ since 1917. All they did was sound the alarm that his surveillance state apparatus had been (and still is) spying on everyday Americans, a violation of our 4th Amendment "rights." He gave James Clapper a _"Get Out Of Jail Free Card"_ for lying about that when he was grilled by Congress and lied under oath. He failed to prevent homeowners from being tossed out of their homes during the mortgage crisis after alleviating their concerns by saying he would help them; he even told them to stop paying their mortgages. He reauthorized Bush's _National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)_ which kept that spying apparatus going. He had two American citizens killed without due process.
Other than that, like Tony the Tiger would say, he was _great!_ 😝

Michelle is one of the great women of our century with her depth of common sense, her ability to laugh at her self and most of all being Michelle in every circumstance. I read her book and loved every page because there were nuggets of wisdom, funnies and kindness tucked away in little places waiting to be discovered. Whatever her fears or insecurities that manifested she acknowledged and talked with them, made compromises and in the end made friends with them. Michelle became the light of her spirit that radiates love and compassion. Michelle welcomed all the kids (characteristics) to the round table chatter and willingly opens her heart and mind to finding the best in each of them so they could and can work and move forward together as one .,,,,,,Michelle ! ❤ 🙏

Love the perspective you bring to the "whole self" movement, it doesn't have to be every aspect of "whole self" all the time to everyone. We can still choose context and be protective of ourselves while being authentic.
When she said "did any of what we did matter?" regarding Obama's presidency, it really hit home. I can only imagine how traumatic, sad and embarrassing it was to hand over the country to someone like Donald Trump. So many citizens were upset about it, but imagine being the actual President and First Lady who did the work feeling that way. Yikes.

I love your first book and I m so looking forward to read your new book... I did however question the part of "the monster part in you" that you call a monster because I am surrounded of family members who suffer greatly from the disease of being cornered trapped and totally dictated by this part and how to work with this part. First I had to discover that this part is a small wounded insecure hurt part in everyone second I had to learn this most challenging thing and that is not to deny not to avoid not to push nor walk away nor abandon nor neglect that part of me who consistently tells me with her fearful rageful voice, " you r an ugly stinking, unworthy piece of nothing" and tells everyone the same thing, but to acknolege her anger her fear validate that when she was little her fear her anger was neglected and now I as the adult me can hold her talk to her tell her what she needed to hear when fear and anger came up. Love that "monster" monster ink who is underneath it all beautiful... Thank You so much for your light
