Drove Tipper Trucks for over 25 years and these Kamaz Trucks look as good as anything the West can produce. Well done Russia and well done Kamaz.

What do Russian mechanics regard as best and worst Kamaz vehicles? As a mechanic I learned long ago to ignore anyone but other mechanics when it comes to vehicles.

      Seriously?
You clearly don't have the faintest idea what a good, reliable, economical and durable truck means.
Have you heard of brands such as Scania, Volvo, MAN, Mercedes?
Kamaz is the best in the world... The stupidest joke I've ever heard.
I'll tell you in great secrecy: Chinese trucks are much better than Kamaz, although they are still far from European ones.

@@andrzej3511 Dakar rally and Sahara tours and competition prove Kamaz are reliable and rugged trucks, outperforming the others by a large margin.
Volvo and Scania are very priven and reliable, but cost a fortune to maintain. The same goes for the German Mercedes range of trucks

@@supercat380 How much do you think a car taking part in the Dakar Rally has in common with a normal, serial model from the assembly line?
And do you even know why such rallies are organized? If you think that it is to check whether it will reach the finish line or not, you are very wrong. The place in the ranking is not important either. Because the car that reaches the finish line usually has no more than 10% of the parts of the one that left the start. Practically everything breaks, breaks, seizes. But every detail after replacement is eagerly taken to the factory laboratory to discover weak points. Some are replaced several times...
Such rallies are organized only to test new solutions in extreme conditions BEFORE they are seriously considered in future models. JUST FOR THAT!
So don't strain yourself too much, mate, lest you fart from too much effort. In your Kamaz, the engine, clutches, gearbox, rear axles and suspension elements ARE NOT Russian.
They used to be German. Now they are Chinese...

@@andrzej3511 nice comments, my pro Deutsch and Swedish truck admirer friend. I don't dislike German or Swedish trucks at all. I just don't favour their sky- high maintenance and parts costs that strain many operators budgets. Replacing the smallest part on these' wonder' trucks is pricey and sometimes restrictive as well due to their continually changing and rising prices. Their reliability is also questionable with frequent electrical problems and perpetual snags.
Not that Kamaz is problem- free, but at least parts are far cheaper and the snags are far less than the Scandinavian and German trucks. On Kamaz trucks, for example,, there's no need for a costly fuel cover sensor that shows if the fuel cover is closed or not, that is common on the western trucks. The Ruskies keep their trucks simple. Try owning a Mercedes car and discove the nightmares of Mercedes snags, especially electrical , my pro- Kraut friend

@@supercat380 I am not a great admirer of either the Swedes or the Germans. German trucks in particular really makes me angry, because German companies continue to consume what they developed with NSDAP money, before and during WWII. Meanwhile, if there is anything good about German trucks, it is automatic gearboxes. Except that neither Mercedes nor MAN produce them. Swabian company ZF produces them. The rest? Very expensive, in fact, and the quality is getting worse from year to year, from 2000.
However, objectively speaking, the best European trucks are Scania and Volvo, with a clear advantage of Scania. Powerful V8, with a unique sound, and everything else at an equally high level. No problems, no extra costs!
You write about maintenance costs. If you take care of the machine, it will always reward you with impeccable work. I systematically change the oil and filters and all other "body fluids" if it is needed in my Scanias. Minor faults are fixed on an ongoing basis.
Believe me it, or not - it's your business. In my company, if a Scania doesn't do three MILLION kilometres, I fire its driver. I am not talking about the manufacturer's declarations but about the ACTUAL mileage of vehicles in my company. Because that means he don't take care of the machine properly. If there's anything that makes me really furious, it's the lack of care for the machine!!!
I often tell drivers and mechanics: You are not a pianist to take care of your hands. You are a driver and the truck gives you bread. So take care of it like your own child, for fuck's sake! You will wash your hands AFTER WORK!
After the first major overhaul (after about 20 years of use), the machine is carefully restored and easily fetches half of its original price at auctions... And I hear from subsequent owners that they're still doing millions of kilometres. Probably until its technical death. After all, these aren't new trucks.
Parts? Brake pads, brake cylinder seals, suspension bellows, light bulbs (in the past, today LEDs are used), sometimes a fuse... That's all. And these aren't expensive parts - they all come from independent manufacturers. As a rule: the best. I REALLY DON'T KNOW what it means to repair a Scania!!!! One condition: to perform periodic inspections unconditionally and very carefully. Equally thorough washing of the chassis and removal of corrosion spot. And the carriage runs great! And that means a thorough inspection in our workshop every two weeks. That's all. And buying parts is really rare in my company. A real rarity.
So, my friend, don't spread myths that are common in Russia. Europe is NO LONGER susceptible to your propaganda. And it views your advertising with the utmost distrust.
If you want to know how to drive a Scania and how it operates, you simply have to drive a few hundred thousand kilometers. Only then tell us anything. Because the truth is: a truck that is cheap to buy is very expensive to operate. And vice versa. An unbreakable rule. Do you know the proverb: "whoever pays cheaply, pays twice or even three times"?
Second thing: if you earn a reputation as a RELIABLE carrier in Europe (and this is very difficult!), you will not risk your reputation in the name of very misunderstood savings. And this is the main reason why there will definitely never be a Kamaz in my company.
There is not an ounce of Russophobia in this declaration, it is just a very sober calculation of costs and benefits. If Kamaz trucks were more profitable and as reliable as Scania, believe me: my company would only have Kamaz trucks. But they are not - that's all!
And for you, a question worth a hundred points: how many Russian parts are in Kamaz 54901? Since you are so proud of your new and modern* "Russian" truck...
      Time to wake up.
      * In my opinion, it is neither modern nor really Russian. Let's not be fooled by the pretty packaging: a cab from Actros. By the way: this exact cab is very unpopular among European drivers. A very stupid purchase by the Kamaz factory producing for a country whose routes are many thousands of kilometers long. They should have bought an extended cab - one so that TWO drivers could sleep comfortably in it!
If anything, Kamaz is Chinese today. Important: as you know, the Chinese are still chasing (and cannot catch up!) with both European and American truck manufacturers.
      P. S. The fuel filler caps are not the way they are because someone has a whim. They are like that because, first of all, they MUST meet the very strict safety regulations in Europe. So if your Kamaz wants to sell in Europe, it MUST install exactly the same ones (with a safety certificate).

Clearly these Russian Trucks have lots of parts from China now,……and thats great if the supplier is able to provide a component as good as a western supplier.
I accept that Mercedes is a better truck by perhaps 5% however, the Russian market needs trucks that are at least 95% as good as western ones with after sales services like Parts and well trained Mechanics .
Russians need to focus on products from EAEU and BRICS as western products are often withdrawn.
    Thanks for sharing .

There will perhaps be lower reliability averages than European heavy goods vehicles, but this allows you to be autonomous with machines that fulfill 90% of the work required.
Not to mention the ancillary manufacturers like Maz, sinotruck/man, and others who are filling the Russian market.
    They have everything you need.
