No doubt about it, Paul Samson was one of the Top 5 Greatest Guitarists of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal!!!! And I'll go to my grave with the opinion that SAMSON's "Shock Tactics" LP is as good as ANY album Iron Maiden ever released. Granted they're very different bands, but considering the fact that the average current metal fan has probably never even heard Samson it's quite a travesty. Also, as far as I'm concerned Bruce Dickinson's greatest vocal performance was captured on "Shock Tactics"....LONG LIVE SAMSON, TRUE PIONEERS OF BRITISH HEAVY METAL!
+razorfistforce1 First band I ever saw live. I was gutted when Bruce left. Always preferred Samson. There was a band called English Rogues who used to play at my local. One night the guitarist was ill so they brought Paul Samson along to fill in.
+Balam Paul and Gerry were friends, they played together in the early 70s in a band called Refugee. They often jammed together, often as Paul Samson's Rogues.
I totally agree with your statement 100%!!, Shock Tactics was such a good album that you wonder why Bruce even would consider leaving Samson for Iron Maiden at that time period.
@@markwinkle1915 because Samson wasn't going anywhere they werent ever going to be something great, Maiden songs were very energetic, were Samson was good but they're not as straightforward as Maiden and there songs don't really go anywhere, Bruce thought Paul was a good vocalist and frontman, but always thought they needed a more energetic singer, and Bruce thought he could do it which he did because he knew Samson wasn't going anywhere, if you read Bruce's book he kind of explains how every time Samson would have some kind of success Maiden would always top them, whether it be the venues or songs on the charts.
Samson. Maiden were both excellent in their own rights. Managed to see both bands and im loving this as i was at reading 81 and 83. This is a trip down memory lane and a good trip it is too as i was way off my head back then lol
I have the 1986 Head Tactics release on vinyl, its the first 2 albums put together minus a few songs, good stuff, it's sad hardly anyone has even heard of Samson.
O paul Samson era muito bom o seus solos eram incríveis o paul se inspirava no Jimi Hendrix.foram legal os momentos que o Bruce DInckinson Bruce Bruce esteve no Samson .
What an incredible slice of rock 'n' roll history. Always were an amazing band, this lot! And, if the song at 33:55 ('Gravy Train' - which clearly became 'I'll Be Round' on the 'Before The Storm' album) is not one of the catchiest songs ever written in the history of blues rock, then i will eat my own shit. Lol! Each and every line-up of this band is legendary, because Paul Samson was so talented & will forever be a legend! Such an underrated band! Love you forever. RIP Paul & RIP Chris... \m/
Really, as good as Maiden?? I think Samson had a few catchy songs, some amazing raw talent but they sound like they belong permanently in the 1970's. Iron Maiden was a heck of a big step forward in songwriting and there is still no band who did anything close, or made as many music fans care about their albums in the same way. That was not down to Bruce staying or leaving, Samson was retrogressive and stuck in the past, like so many forgotten bluesy rock bands that now sound a bit 'jokey'. I mean I like Samson but it's true!
NICHOLAS THORNLEY I agree, I remember buying No Prayer for the Dying when it was first released and noticed Adrian Smith wasn't in the lineup and being disappointed, I didn't really like that album or much else after that.
ScreamingSadist I think Maiden quickly lost their way after they hit big and were touring like crazy. After Powerslave tour the guys were a basket case, so it was a matter of time before Adrian and Bruce would quit over creative differences & just needing a perspective. The last 3 Bruce solo albums were great (2 with Adrian) and I like the recent Maiden stuff, not every song but a good number of them. Rock in Rio is an amazing DVD! Even the Donnington show is great '90s Maiden, better than the CDs.
nah, it's just the audio from the live album, dubbed in; same concert from which the video footage was taken, but taken fom the soundboard and remastered.
There's a couple of dudes called Steve and Rod looking for you Bruce.....

The great Mel Gaynor on Drums from Simple Minds. Excellent clip
A fantastic show I never saw them live with Bruce but I got to see them with Nicky Moore still very good .

Shock Tactics is an absolute classic. Right up there with Heaven and Hell.
Fredwang Buttle absolutely!!!
I think 'Head On' is a classic!
13:49 vice versa i love this song Is awesome
With Maiden he never sings of that way i mean not even infinite dreams

This Samson is actually really fucking good!!!!
Thank you!
The last song, Gravy Traim is amazing, contagious! Very great band!
'tis a bloody anthem really! Thought I was the only one
Great to hear GIllan playing in the background.
Thinking that Samson played with the band McCoy before forming samson.
Wish they could have come to America. A lot of great metal bands have never came here.

Love this rare stuff with BRUCE on VOCALS .
24:15 "Walking Out on You" chorus sounds a bit like "Slowly Turning Into You" by White Stripes!
The application from Bruce in ftonn of Steve. After this performance Bruce was the new Maiden vocalist.
Nice. Pre Maiden.
Guys !! Earth is demonstrably level contained and motionless AND space doesn't even exist !!
bollox it is m8
I believe you.
i was there man
Dude nice audio
Os solos do paul eram incríveis.infelizmente o paul morreu cedo com 49 anos por causa de um câncer.

Maiden were a great band until 1990 when they ran out of steam and went shit.
NICHOLAS THORNLEY I agree, I remember buying No Prayer for the Dying when it was first released and noticed Adrian Smith wasn't in the lineup and being disappointed, I didn't really like that album or much else after that.

ScreamingSadist sooo lame....lyrically and musically!!!!!!!!! after 7th all was terrible.
@@nicholasthornley9708 ok in their defense nobody in the 80s really knew what 90s music was going to be like
Rod Smallwood and Steve Harris were at this show to see if Bruce Dickinson would be approved or not on the Iron Maiden!
Dickinson should not have left Samson for Maiden-Survivors 2013 would have been epic!and we might still have Thunderstick!!!
Right before Bruce made the move?
Great voice of the Metal and great video. Bruce is too much fucking.
Take it like a man is the GAYEST (literally) song EVER!! Other than that I love this!!!
The lyrics are from the viewpoint of an abusing older male. I always assumed Catholic Church, could be wrong.
Who is the blonde on the side? With the shiny pants;) pauls girl?
I'ts fake!!! sounds like LP

Not at all sympathetic to the original sound.
