      I think the conflict between Commonwealth and the Allianz is far more intense than the game manage to establish to me as a Player. That is why some endings feel irritating and/or quiet meaningless and unreasonable. I dont bother to recap what the Story may want to tell me and to consider that i might missed some info, but put this importaint bit together on my own took away much of the "first play"impact imo ... anyway a nice Game thou

    In the book Condor crew is dead, and ship has significant damage to its skin. A big deal is made of it as skin is almost diamond hard. Thus one of those "nuke'em and die" endings is closest to canon. The first ending, with swarm communicating back by drawing face, is how book ends. Love the book, love the game. I am genuinly suprised that so many people felt endings were let down. Typical Lem's ending is about being emotionaly drained after a long and perilus voyage, driven mostly by not understaning other side (Fiasco, Solaris, The Invicible). What would your ideal ending be? A happy ending with majority of Yasna's crew alive and returing to Earth? Or avenger ending with Swarm being destroyed? Or shootout ending - Condor nukes Swarm, Swarm attacks Condor, but one last nuke explodes within Condor, and it kills Yasna but burns Swarm too? I wonder...

    • @fgtrhwu2
      @fgtrhwu2 11 месяцев назад

      If I didn't care about the book, I'll take a mixture of happy and shootout endings. Yasna escapes with her crew and all the nukes on the Condor explodes as the swarm breaks into the ship.

    • @aserta
      @aserta 11 месяцев назад +2

      The endings are like that for Lem, because he wants to drive home his personal point about Space. That if you don't submit to it, and subserve to its existence (so no Man over "nature") you'll get railed over.

      I was sad that the nuke ending uses nukes and not the typical huge fuckoff energy beams of the ships. The fight of the Cyclops was also so much better in the book in my opinion, but still, the game made me read the book and tbh I love them both anyways.
      As for the endings, yeah, her surviving doesn't make sense, as everyone from the Condor was ded by the time the Invicible had arrived.

    Honestly the ending where she dies is the only real ending here. Everything else was so completely vague that it felt more like a commercial break that never returned. Oooooof.
    Edit: So I just read the summary of the book on Wikipedia and I think...I think the game is supposed to be a sort of prequel to the novel. This one focuses on the Condor before the Invincible actually lands, but the book is about the crew of the Invincible searching for dead crew members from the Condor, as well as "entering enemy lines" and encountering similar flora and fauna. That honestly makes the incredibly vague ending a lot more reasonable. If you wanna know what happens, read the book! I definitely have to now.

      Yes, the game is a prequel to the book. In the book you follow Rohan. The book also has an unsatisfactory ending, but is definitely a great read after finishing the game. The ending of the book really leaves things up to interpretation, but throughout the last chapters it goes over things that are very similar to all the endings, meaning they all may have happened in universe. The ending that fits best is definitely the ending where Yasna dies though.

Ones that stream opposite load particles more precisely (antiprotons/positrons). Lasers are used only as low powder weapons, especially preferred in places where there are humans nearby, as gamma radiation in which mass turns during anihilation is not very good for organics. @@collectorhubs I hope so since I like the character. I meant when you said the ending I got is the true ending, I'll presume it's referring to the game, not the novel because if Yasna waited for the Invincible to arrive, it followed that she would be moved to the ship if she wasn't killed. If so, she would be in the novel.
      The ending to seque to the novel has to be the one in which she leaves on the Dragonfly.
      I should read the novel, if it's available, since I'm curious how it ends. A sequel to this game couldn't possibly take place in the novel events. It has to be after, I should think.

    • @aserta
      @aserta 11 месяцев назад +3

      @@collectorhubs The entire game is a beautiful application of "artistic" license. It would be so easy to pluck the plot of the book and make a game out of it. Even with Lem's overarching "man subservient to the universe" themes, it's a pretty straight forward piece of SciFi literature, far simpler than Solaris, for example or something like Yefremov's Andromeda Nebula, or Hoyle's A for Andromeda (i'd love a game about that one).
      IMO, people should listen to the audiobook (which has excellent reading) and then play the game. Yasna's hypothetical story is even more poignant under those circumstances.
      Regardless, it's a freaking good bit of gaming machination and the atompunk is "muah" chef's kiss.

      The game is bad itself btw, zero tension, zero proper fight scene (idk if pointing the gun in the air and shoot randomly count), bad ending, the only thing that kept me playing until the end was Yasna characteristics and her singing

      Great soundtrack, great voice acting, well made realistic characters. Cool retrofuturistic visual style. That already a lot for a nowaday games. What else you expected? I think over time this game will be remembered as underrated. Or maybe it's too serious for a nowaday casual gamers?

    To be fair the game felt short and... underwhelming? It starts off great: I love the ambient and the general vibe of feeling lost in an unknown planet, with its risks and such... that, is well done.
    But the build up to the endings (whichever one you get) doesn't feel that great: I got the bad ending where you send off some nukes and then escape, but I decided to wait for Rohytra and died in the process only to be met with the credit screen, trying it again, going through all the dialogues, and escaping, and that was it. Coming to check on RUclips for the other endings they all feel remotely the same: I think the basic problem of this game is that it somehow feels like there's more to it but it just gives you an ending out of nowhere.
    Basically I felt like another "level" was coming, but it never did.
    It's a shame because the whole game feels nice ( it's the first of the genre I've played and I didn't get bored at all, so... that's good) but then you're met with these endings that seemed sort of rushed: there are too many and most of them are too open ended. i would've liked to see Yasna reunite with Novik or get inside the Invincible and wander off in the distant space, or have her meet her crew again, or see her make it safely back "home" only to deal with the grief of leaving Rohytra down there... you get it, all it took would've been 10 more minutes for each ending.

      I think it should've revealed the mysterious cloud much later, because much of the excitement for me was the question of 'what is the source of it all' and the parts after that felt more like a pivot to bring the story to a close. I guess it kinda can be explained with the game having to somehow lead to the books storyline.

    So I don’t think all the “”Endings”” happen at the end, I can’t test this for sure as I don’t intend to buy the game (I was going to get it till I saw it played and it’s just not for me, maybe if we had to solve puzzles or something but not how it came out) so what I mean is one of the branching paths you can go to a landing site to be picked up or you can drive to the Alliance base, what happens if you drive to the lander do you just leave and that’s one of the endings?
    Remember when we got the ending to farcry 4 at the start of the game by just waiting, not every ending has to be at the end of a game also sometimes a death can be a canon ending (I don’t think you can actually die in this one till the end?!).

      If u drive to landing, the ship got destroy and when you at the end, you don't have lander to go back up space. You either wait for the invincible if you manage to convince him to stop launch the Nuke, if not he will alway launch it and you both die.

      If you refering to the waiting thing like farcry. There no Line asking you to wait, and we tried like multiple combination on the dialogue hoping he will just join us to the space lander, and the Nuke the whole place or just leave. But none of the dialogue will convince him to leave, he will alway either die by Nuke or you put him in the sleep chamber

    I hope they never do a game from Solaris if it's going to have endings as bad as these ones. Really sad that they crafted an interesting game but failed 11 times in delivering a proper ending.

      The novel this was based on was written some time in the 60s, and was one of the earliest examples of a sort of grey goo apocalypse scenario.
