  • MyPersonalFootballCoach Director Of Coaching and World-Class Individual Skill Specialist, Saul Isaksson-Hurst, makes the trip to the north of England to take a look through the Academy operations of former English Premier League club, Blackburn Rovers.
Although no longer a top-tier club, their Academy has still kept its Category 1 status whilst working tirelessly to uphold the Club Motto, ‘Arte et Labore’ - By Skill and Hard Work . The academy is one which prides itself on building a culture of understanding that “Every individual from U9-U23 will be developed holistically as both a person and a player'' and having developed some quality talent in the past with players such as Damien Duff and David Dunn, they continue to do so with David Raya, who came through on a scholarship and is now Goalkeeper at Arsenal FC (on loan from Brentford FC), Scott Wharton, Matty Pearson, and Hayden Carter.
This the fifth episode of the 'Inside The Academy' documentary series and it's not one to be missed!

It’s currently utterly miserable supporting Rovers and this video has really cheered me up and, yes, there is hope for the future.

Credit to Blackburn for guaranteeing 8 year olds at least 3 seasons of Academy football at least before being ultimately judged. So much better than the turnover of the big clubs where so many players are lost to the club and the game based on short periods of time to impress the coaches.

the bigger London clubs have a huge and heavily populated catchment area, they can afford to be more ruthless, it is harsh to see kids released at 9

Also props to them fr competing against the Manchester and Liverpool clubs, often Blbrn scout these areas and successfully sign talent frm under the big clubs noses.

Great video and a nice insight behind the scenes, you've done a great job here and as a Rovers fan, this warms my heart. There's more to be proud of with football clubs than just results and table position. The way the academy is setup to nurture talent whilst also taking care of the kids at such a fragile age is hopefully something which will continue for a long time and ultimately keep our club alive. Keep up the good work

Brilliant video. Interesting to see all the wall posters on psychology and confidence. Maybe fans should remember that when angrily groaning at any misplaced pass.

No offence but can’t really compare Cambridge to Blackburn.

The one good thing Venekys has done by keeping this going. Then again it was set up by Jack Walker original. Venekys need to leave. They are destroying everything about our club.

Not being funny, but every time I listen to young coaches, at all levels, its way over complicated, these are basic skills, that kids will pick up after a few session, But I wish they would just keep it simple, Its a simple game, but its overplayed and overtechnical.
