This is something I’ve been looking for a good, succinct, straightforward version of, and here it is. Great video!

Good information. I have used the z-file to recrown the frets on one guitar and it works pretty we. I also have one of the fret files that look like a square rod with different u shaped or half round file notches in the flat sides . In my opinion of that type of fret file is don't buy it save your money and either buy the triangle fret file with safe corners or the z-file. Both of these two files are much better. The main flaw in the square file with the file groves is that they do not fit the shape of the fret wire installed in the neck and most often cut steps in to the sides of the fret. At least that's what the one I have did.

Autosol? Damn, I've been using Anusol! That's probably why my frets keep shrinking and falling out.

Sound advice, as ever! Another one of those luthier’s processes which is SO satisfying to undertake, although you can end up with sore(…and sometimes black!) fingers! 🍷🍷🥰🥰🎸🎸

Hey Sean, thanks for the videos. I’m a fellow Irishman and been watching you well before ggbo and your move to crimson etc. I’m finally (after about 10 years of wanting it) in a place where I have my workshop, just finished my workbench and ready to start my first scratch build. Forgive the preamble but I’d thought I’d offer an idea as a possible follow on to this video. One subject I found to be lacking content on RUclips for and I’m still somewhat unsure myself on is when ordering fretwire. All the different sizes and differences between them etc it’s hard to know what to choose. The same somewhat goes for radius albeit more info is there about this. Basically A lot of info online around this just says it’s personal preference but not much more. I couldn’t tell you what frets are on my current guitars to even emulate them and I only found out the radius on my guitars recently. So I don’t even know what my personal preference is. I think there’s a gap there to be filled even with beginner luthier recommendations etc. jumbo stainless steel with a 9.5” radius? 😅 I couldn’t tell you. Anyway thanks again for the content, keep it coming. Cheers

Great Idea for a video, I have struggled with the same thing.

Hello, thanks for following me for so long, that's amazing! Best of luck with your first build, I hope everything goes smoothly.
Those ideas are really great, thank you. I had planned a radius video for a little while, but not thought about a fretwire one, which would absolutely slot in as next weeks video beautifully. Let me see what magic I can work!

I measured the frets on my favourite guitar with a regular calliper(hight and width). I had to guesstimate taking fret wear in to account. Turned out to be vintage Gibson style frets on a 12 inch radius board. I have problems playing wider frets feels wrong and clumsy for me.
I’ve learned that narrow frets have better intonation when they wear down compared to wide frets. That’s a plus. Playing style and sting size probably factor in what you prefer, I play a 52-10 set.

i´m a beginner and something about using a triangular file to recrown (is that correct ?), is appealing to me. but i´m having a hard time developing the technique to do it.
