It’s crazy to think about that I am currently marching with people who were not born yet when this was recorded, yet it’s still one of my favorite childhood songs.
I wish I was in a band were after rehearsal we would still be happy enough to all simultaneously play Hey Soul Sister and be having fun while playing beautifully.
Marched 93 Euph and loved jam sessions like these. GO BLUUUEE. Have a great year in 2013 its hard to believe its been twenty years since I wore a Bluecoat. Cherish the moments you have in corps.
+Erick Sanchez are you serious? isn't this song by maroon 5? they're like the least 'hipster' band i can think of, their stuff is played in department stores and dentists offices and stuff.
Nice. I play trumpet too, thinking about auditioning for the 2013 season, and after that I'd probably do 2014 too before I age out. I bought the $15 packet for the 2012 season to see their practice and warm up stuff and the audition stuff for this last season, I'd recommend picking that up.
@phantomcoats94 In my highschool band (all of them, concert, marching, jazz) the low brass is easily the strongest section. Really, only one of our trumpets ever play out...
@MusicFr3ak99 youtube com/watch?v=umxPZNkif7U&feature=feedu is where you can find a transcription of the score. I took that and put it on a site called Noteflight for easier viewing and added some things, changed the rhythm a bit so it sounded less choppy and more connected, this also makes it easier to see. But here's the score that I inputted: noteflight com/scores/view/82b682f0ec301fb0acdac12525cca7ce54b47a43
Go for tone and musicality in the extreme upper register. Practice lip slurs/trills and scales/arpeggios. Avoid using excess pressure, let your air do the magic for you, because air is free =). Try making your notes a little below your highest note sound really good and come really easy, and your highest notes will come a lot easier and sound a lot better. Do this often and you'll see very good results- I did. I plan on auditioning for bluecoats this fall.
@silfner1 I think it is a G. Awesome. I can squeak a high G out. Anyone got any tips for range? I'm a sophomore in high school. First chair trumpet and I'd like to be able to hit Double C by September this year. Much appreciated. (:
@smeargle777 we have so many players like that in our band, they think because they can play loud they're amazing, I am in no way saying that about these guys though, I dont want anyone to get the wrong idea about what i meant
Not that hard, there have been people that have switched and within 1-2 years they were in a top corps. There was a clarinet player that had never played a keyboard ever and in 2 years she made the Blue Devils. In the Cadets, their voice actor that they hired became so entranced with them that he picked up bari/euph and learned it and joined the corps. It's all up to you, as for me I used to be a sax player and now I'm on tuba. It comes down to how much you want it.
On a scale of 1-10, how hard is it to make a corp if you're switiching from a woodwind? I feel like that the people in each corp is a music major and is super godly
Timothy Hsu a lot of people have did it actually. Just make sure you practice a lot before hand because the people you're going against have been playing for a while.
LIP SLURS LIP SLURS LIPS SLURS LIPS SLURS!!!! And occasionally go chromatically from the lowest note you can hit to the highest. And remember if you don't hit the note you want after about 3 times, your done with that for the day.
Corps will look for a person that's average but has a hard work ethic and by the end of the season will be great, compared to a person who's above average and has an okay worth ethic and will be a little bit less than great by the end of the season. They can tell who really wants it during the audition process.
You can totally tell at 1:05 that there was supposed to be a drum break and the guy only played an eighth note, but it still sounded freaking amazing
All of the directors flipped out too XD
It was actually supposed to be a tuba solo
That's the kinda thing that makes this fucking amazing
It’s actually a tuba solo
It's weird how they can be so relaxed and still have amazing sound... The vibe of this video is amazing
Nine years later and this is still one of my favorites.
It’s crazy to think about that I am currently marching with people who were not born yet when this was recorded, yet it’s still one of my favorite childhood songs.
You’re marching with
@@toddchavez8274 12 - 18 year olds bc our band included middle school into our marching band
I wish I was in a band were after rehearsal we would still be happy enough to all simultaneously play Hey Soul Sister and be having fun while playing beautifully.
I didn't know hey soul sister could give me chills. Well played bluecoats..... well played.

Michael Dotson my favorite contra section is whichever one you are in 😘
He has a picture of him playing a contra he has to be cool
Marched 93 Euph and loved jam sessions like these. GO BLUUUEE. Have a great year in 2013 its hard to believe its been twenty years since I wore a Bluecoat. Cherish the moments you have in corps.
I would pay to get a CD of dci corps recorded playing pop songs. It would probably be better than the actual songs.
You still have that playlist anywhere?
You got that playlist?
Suggest this to dci
when they're able to play like this without any fract'd notes and when it sounds really good
I would pay to see them play Gonna Give you Hell
This makes my heart feel good...
Best contra section
The Bluecoats play all the hipster stuff!
+Erick Sanchez are you serious? isn't this song by maroon 5? they're like the least 'hipster' band i can think of, their stuff is played in department stores and dentists offices and stuff.

This makes me regret picking a woodwind instrument over the baritone my teacher tried to convince me to play. ugh they're so perfect
Samantha Ollweiler every woodwind player ever.
My condolences,
A baritone player.

I love the contra sound in the beginning
Nice. I play trumpet too, thinking about auditioning for the 2013 season, and after that I'd probably do 2014 too before I age out. I bought the $15 packet for the 2012 season to see their practice and warm up stuff and the audition stuff for this last season, I'd recommend picking that up.
Can I double like this ? Love their freakin hornline................
That's very motivating to hear, thanks! ;)
Recording came out great here. Blooo sounds pretty good, too.
@phantomcoats94 In my highschool band (all of them, concert, marching, jazz) the low brass is easily the strongest section. Really, only one of our trumpets ever play out...
What is this "heaven" to my ears?;)
@smeargle777 Yeah, I played lead with Coats this summer and the staff told him to put it in.
As great as their contra section is, I hate to break it to you but the bass line you're mostly hearing is the keyboard.
THE BLUECOATS FROM OHIO MY FRIEND STARTED THIS CORPS LOVE TO HEAR THEM PLAY
@smeargle777 its a song for the audience so its for entertainment not a show peice so its ok to throw things in like that
Practicing my whole heart out to become a bluecoat..
ENCORE!!!
@IvanLam6 Just copy and paste the link and add a (.) between youtube/ noteflight and the com, sorry forgot to put that in. I hope it helps!
holy shiiiiit!
why does this have so many views?!?! one of the first times we played it and it sounds horrible! haha, soo much fun tho :)
Damn you Bluecoats........you all made me jizz my pants AGAIN!
:( I like both. (I play bass guitar, upright bass, euphonium, and trombone).

@smeargle777 It's on every recording of this I have ever heard!
i can tell everyone of thm are jammin
CHEEYEAH, GO MELLOPHONES!!!!! =)
Anyone know the high note that the trumpet holds out after the cutoff?
It's a good thing I play Baritone and percussion
This sounds good even on my poopy laptop speakers!
@smeargle777 I'm assuming you're not very familiar with drum corps. Hangovers like that are common place.
i fucking love being a brass player
That ended not with a bang but a whimper
@gabri3l7 You could do senior corps, like the Renegades. (:
@BarracksSi see i only work on the weekends...that and i haven't played a horn since i aged out in 09
Keren
This kills me on the inside.
@smeargle777 we have so many players like that in our band, they think because they can play loud they're amazing, I am in no way saying that about these guys though, I dont want anyone to get the wrong idea about what i meant
the Soprano Ego :-)
@TheMultimediaproject me too!
@smeargle777 i think the staff wanted him to. didn't on one rep and they told him put it back it in
Our marching band got to be me
Can I get this arrangement? Haha
I wanna be that drumset player D:
@unusuallynormal231
they bascilly did it for fun
1:35
Drum major dodges instructor's conducting
XD
@baseballnumber75 Me too....

@GreenHope92 i slappa da contra.
On a scale of 1-10, how hard is it to make a corp if you're switiching from a woodwind? I feel like that the people in each corp is a music major and is super godly
0 because I major in band and play the euphonium in band and marching band
Timothy Hsu a lot of people have did it actually. Just make sure you practice a lot before hand because the people you're going against have been playing for a while.
Plenty of people have done it, there’s a mellophone player that switched from clarinet (idr which group)
10 Because when my brother tried out he placed 2nd in it playing but didn’t make it because his marching wasn’t good enough
@kadune why?
Where are the tubas!?!?
in the back of the band like always
LIP SLURS LIP SLURS LIPS SLURS LIPS SLURS!!!! And occasionally go chromatically from the lowest note you can hit to the highest. And remember if you don't hit the note you want after about 3 times, your done with that for the day.
Woot no dislikes
@Skystorm16 Sounds like either a G or an A.

pst theres a lil secret.... you could switch *o*
No, it's not the same -- work hard just on the weekends, rock a show, then beer at the hotel afterwards. Not like junior corps at all. :D
God, I hate being a woodwind...
I prefer contra's sound to bass guitar's one.
i dont think it would quite the same as junior corps you know....
