In an interview the teenager said there were people trying to get their pictures taken so he backed up to give them room and he was kneeling down holding onto a rock but then realized it wasn't secure and he lost his balance . I'm glad he's alive but once again begs the question of people being too close to the edge . Instead of backing up to make room for the people he should have walked past them and gone away from the edge .
It's nice they were able to help him. My mother, sisters and I visited the Grand Canyon years ago. We started hiking one day, I don't remember the trail, it was considered moderate and there were a lot of people. My sisters and I were a little ahead of my mother taking pictures. We then heard some sliding and my mother shout out. I turned around so fast thinking my mom had just slipped off the cliff. We ran over to help her get up. She was alright. We asked her what happened, she said the couple behind her was almost on her like they were rushing her, they were laughing so she turned around and lost her step as she was trying to move out of their way. I am so thankful that my mother was ok. Some people will say that maybe she shouldn't have been going so slow or that she shouldn't have been there. Maybe. But I think everyone should be able to enjoy a hike at their own pace and as long as they are being safe. Respect the land.

When my husband went to take pics, I called out to him to get back from the edge, he thought I was acting silly, meanwhile, I was yards away from the edge hugging a half dead tree. Then on the way out of the GC my husband wasn’t focusing on the road, but on the sunlight and colors of the canyon sights, I started crying and begging for him to keep his eyes on the road, bc it seemed like the roads were windy and had no barriers except some weak half dead shrubs. My son gave me his baby blanket to cover my face from the sights while I was panicking. It was not for me. I wanted to get out of the GC way before the sun started setting with potentially no lights on the roadway. On top of that ppl intentionally step over the barriers in flip flops to take selfies with their backs to the canyon, one gush of wind and/or a slip to cause an imbalance, oh my!!! I just can’t, it stresses me out. 😳
I Saw many young people wearing flip flops standing by the edge too😢
Why would dumb asses wear flip flops to the f grand Canyon?
MB, you are at the opposite end of the risk-assessment spectrum from the boy in this news report.
@@a.w.thompson4001 thanks for the laugh!!!! I never thought about it from that perspective. I’m very happy the young man gets to see another day with minimal consequences. I don’t think I will ever willingly go back to the Grand Canyon, all due respect for mother nature’s creation, but I like flat terrain. Have a great day!
I saw the Grand Canyon from AZ too. I didn’t see any railings.
My father who was a iron worker fell 100 feet and broke his leg and survived!
I was just there for the first time a couple of days ago. I watched people climb over the railing to take pictures
The deserve the consequences.
There not suppose to do that
He was screwing around and/or being over confident regarding the risks involved with being on rocky high cliff terrain. Teens, and most adults for that matter, are Darwin Award candidates.
Stupid selfie fall again?
Just close that area of the trail. No one's life is worth losing over a moment incident which can be prevented. Good to know the young little man is well.
