Bongamsa: The Mountain Temple

- There are many Buddhist Temples in Korea. Most are open to the public every day of the year, but one is different. This is Bongamsa. It's a special zen meditation center of the Jogye Order just out side of Mungyeong.
Nestled in the midst of rolling mountains and tall trees, it offers visitors a wondrous driving experience from Seoul to the base of Mt. Huiyangsan. However, if you're planning on visiting this temple, make sure you arrive on Buddha's Birthday, as it is the only day of the year it is open to the public.
There are buses available to the Temple, but if you can, I'd recommend driving, since it makes the experience much more enjoyable. The temple was founded in the 9th Century by Jijeungdaesa.
Music used with permission from Apple Loops and Kevin MacLeod.
That was a beautifully put together video of an especially beautiful temple. Thanks!
as a buddhist, i cant begin to tell you how much i LOVED this video! thank you so much! :D
metta
Thank you that was Great and very interesting to find out about.
@softypapa Thanks Kurt! I really try to make it entertaining and professional, since there aren't that many resources about Korea's history available more popular viewing. I'd love to do more and hope to have an increase of time this next term to produce more videos. Thanks for watching!
Beautiful video sir! You have outdone yourself once again!
At 2:37...."Behind me are two monuments and one curious ajusshi"! hehe
Looked like a great trip :)
Great vid, btw ;-) As always, I look forward to more of your fun vlogs.
wow..that was amazing that temple...and its beutiful colours and sculptures...fantastic steve
Very nice video! Bongamsa is very beautiful!
That is spectacular....loving it.
@ABombs1 Jo actually got me that mic in Feb 2009. I've used it several times, but usually with a lapel connector. I'm in the process of getting a new one (to reduce static noise). Most of my travel videos use the H2. It's a great mic. The guy was a trip. I loved it!
@KazukiSeirei Thanks! I love making the travel vids. So much fun to get out there, explore, film, edit, and then share. Korea is a great place and I'm thankful that I'm here in Asia to share with the world. I hope I can continue to make videos that people enjoy so that they can learn more about this part of the world. I hope you and Ling can make it out here to visit one day!
@cmb17 Glad you enjoyed it!
Your videos are more and more beautiful everytime I watch them :)
@Flint133 Good to see you somewhat back. Loved the dog in the last vid.
That was fantastic! Thanks for sharing.
@BusanKevin Thanks! it was a blast. Yeah, I saw him in the viewfinder. I almost cropped him out, but I left it in there since I thought it was so funny.
@daewooparts That's awesome. This place is very special and shouldn't change that much!
I'm impressed, very professionally done, the camera work, the commentary everything.
@BryanAndBaileysZen Thanks! It was an amazing place!
@jakluk4 I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's one of those sights that not many people get a chance to see.
Wonderful video!
@Ozzi4Japan Thank you very much. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
@DOTQWERTY218 There's a link to my blog... Isn't that more??? ;-) Glad you enjoyed the video. I try to research the travel guides and internet before I set out on an excursion. Then pick and choose what to say on camera and what to save for voice overs.
@abbyroadme Glad you enjoyed it... You'll be seeing some new things shortly!
@followingbreadcrumbs You're welcome! I'm glad it brought back fond memories!
@Truedantalion Glad you had a blast. I know we did!
pretty place. thank you for sharing.
@cybersalad Some of it's new, but in many cases, Koreans use the historical blueprints to rebuild the destroyed buildings. Glad you enjoyed this one!
@fehquig Less than 24 hours. We read about it on Thursday and planned the trip in about an hour.
Great video! Thanks for sharing. :)
@TheAnvil102 I've had this mic for over a year, I just usually have it attached via a lapel connector. I'm in the process of upgrading the lapel mic, so I just used the base as a field recorder. ;-)
nice i been there before back in the 80's & 90's looks the same
@208stroker1 Glad you enjoyed it!!!
@stuffnnonsense Who knows... if you have any strings... please pull them!
@youvebeennumined Yup. One of the reasons why I was encouraged to make this video.
The accent of value in Zen, and most of the orient, is placed upon what is not seen. Hence the most valuable things are those which are not on display to everyone. Thus, the opening of only one day. This is different than those objects valued by the west. In the west, of course, the value is by being seen.
The temple seems to have a Chinese "Quan" layout. Which is the earlier version of "zen".
Nice video. Hope you got some Buddha's delight.
@ZMoulton It really was my pleasure!
@TyYann Thanks!
@sourzzon That it is!
@Rocket277 Thanks!
@saiyouken You are welcome!
Started with handheld mics now eh? Loving the guy at 2:35-2:43 ish.
Another successful documentary
@key8422 Glad that you are!
Pretty neat. So this is actual real vintage Korean architecture? I was kind of bummed to find out halfway through my tour that Kyongbok Palace is a reconstruction built int he '80s. Since the country had been blown up so many times, there wasn't any old stuff left around the Seoul area, at least!
Wow, you're breaking out the epic mic! You're all professional now.
@thechoos Would be fun.. eh?
@avastacia Thanks!
great vid. very informative *^_^*
Beautiful temple... How long had you been planning this one?
@qiranger ok, very cool.
Another great video. Where do you do your research before you record this? It looks professional.
btw the "videos and more -->" is a lie, I just found videos. :)
hmm.... I'm christian so I'm not really fond of these stuff i have to say
