I have never played wow , played FFXIV for 9 yrs. But after seeing this vid there are a lot of cool things that wow does right that I wish ffxiv did. Too bad I can't just marry the best of both games together cause then I'd be hooked for life lol.

There are some general reasons i prefer ff14 over wow, like story actually matters, it's not a rat race to end game, and horrizontal content, but at the end of the day, i dont play wow any more because i dont want to support a terrible company like blizzard. They hate their customers and abuse their staff. Why would i give them money?

So I'll avoid the comment section since most of them are leaning toward one game in particular but I've been a WoW vet since Classic and left during the Shadowlands to try FFXIV for 2 years. Done everything in both games (besides savage in FF) and I can say with Dawntrail, it has lost me terribly. My personal advice, try both and see what sticks with you to enjoy after a long day of work/school :) Personally, I want to play a game and DT just...didn't give me. It was cutscene after cutscene. I want to fight. I want to move, kill, quest...not watch a movie. And from the point of this comment, their upcoming patch is the same cookie cutter build. 2 dungeons. Alliance raid. Nothing else. Nothing for a casual player base. Even a hardcore FFXIV friend of mine put the game down, tried WoW and can't stop.
Again, the best advice is to try it for yourself! Someone's opinion is only going to steer you away or frighten you which I know Wow had a bad tendency for. It ain't as toxic as people say. In my 20 odd years of Wow, I've only dealt with two cases AT myself. In FFXIV over 2 years, my blood pressure was through the roof to where my spouse needed to give me medicine due to the community.
Again, I'm glad I did tip my toe into the other pool to see with my OWN eyes what was there, tried it, wasn't for me. Again, give any game a chance and if it aint for you, then that's fair :) At the end of the day, we're all here to enjoy something people have created. A world to escape to and explore.

Interesting POV. Dawntrail really did shift the game and I’m not sure why it took that direction but it could make for good game changes in the next xpac in FF14! Time will tell. Thanks for sharing your opinion

@@Catomiq Of course!!! Again best to be positive because we're all trying to enjoy a game at the end of the day. PLUS it's healthy competition for both games. Without Wow, FFXIV would probably grow stagnant. I know FFXIV got WoW moving again after SL. It's a healthy relationship. Both games are good in regards but not perfect :) Play what is fun!
I do hope the best for FFXIV though and I mean that. I still love my main over there who I met my best friend with but maybe once things get better, I'll look into it again but enjoy what makes you happy

I tried to play wow, BRAND NEW PLAYER never installed, watched playthroughs, touched it before. but i’ve played video games my entire life, since i was like 6-7 years old. The community in wow was so hateful and the game felt very unwelcoming as a new player. It felt so all over the place for me. I truly WANT to get into it, but i’m deathly afraid of needing to interact with any other player for any reason at all. I love the idea of fighting bosses and collecting pets and mounts. (Last I played I did the trial maybe 6-10 months ago, so correct me if i’m wrong) but in order to get those things I HAVE to go into a dungeon with other players. Right? Can I play the game easily while avoiding other players at all costs? Video games for me are supposed to be a positive and fun thing, but when people are giving me death threats for making a simple mistake it really puts me off. I’ve played other MMO’s where people are understanding, they don’t have tantrums and teach you the strategies. In wow it was the complete opposite. Felt like a bunch of no lifers with raging anger and hatred /:

Something else that's important to mention is that FFXIV generally will run very well on your pc with good hardware, mine runs at a consistent locked 120 and even in populated areas rarely dips. WoW on the otherhand doesn't utilize multiple CPU cores because the game is ancient and therefore in populated areas, raids or large group content sometimes the game can go from a locked 120 to sub 30fps

I love FFXIV because it was built specifically for classic & casual MMO players who want a bingeable RPG series to play with their friends as opposed to the modern MMO business model of shovelware FOMO centered around the player fantasy of being a celeb amongst a wannabe-esports community encouraged to become addicted to & milked for an endless churn of number-go-up.
Why It's Rude To Suck At Warcraft by FoldingIdeas is a whole academically cited essay on that self-induced rat race. FFXIV sets out to subvert & rebel against everything I've ever despised in modern MMORPG design. In short: I'm giddy & glib that hardcore raiders fall in love with it, exhaust all its content, get bitter, & then leave. It's never been & still isn't that kind of game. As one of the people in the classic & casual MMORPG era audience: it isn't gatekeeping that the game has wide appeal but is dunked on by MMO junkies - that's by design. And it's exactly how WoW even got started: it was the *casual* MMORPG experience of 2004.
Right now I'm playing both vanilla classic WoW & every expansion of XIV's content. And I am very happy.

Here’s my recommendation, based on story:
    1. Play through WoW’s newest zone(s) until its story reaches a stopping point.
    2. Play FF14’s MSQ. Once you have caught up with it, swap points 1 and 2, where you’re catching up on FF’s MSQ before doing more WoW content
    3. Play Older WoW zones to get the broader story. There’s a deep component about Old Gods, Elemental Forces, etc, but even now it’s not well defined, and each expansion is pretty good as its own contained story. My picks would be Legion (Shadow Priests get this extra insight to the current villain in War Within), or Wrath, then Dragonflight, Mists or Cata, then Burning Crusade (it’s just a little too old as meaningful content), Battle for Azeroth (meaningful, but the story starts to come off the rails), Warlords of Draenor (just not my favorite set of zones), and finally shadowlands.
Honestly though, I’d probably consider playing GW2 ahead of Burning Crusade content.

I honestly can't recommend WoW to anyone on business model alone. With FFXIV you get the current expansion + everything that came before. With WoW you pretty much only get the expansion since anything that came before became irrelevant, and said expansion is not even complete at launch but rather slowly drip feed until the last patch. All the while having higher box price than FFXIV.

I played the original FF 1 way back when it was only a console single player game. As well as FF 2-7 before I lost interest. I tried again earlier this year as it was pointed out to me that it is suppose to be more story driven than WoW and it didn't last long. I found it boring and the storyline confusing. I'm sure there is a reason for forcing you to go through all the expansions but there is such a thing as too much. I read through all the texts but as you are bombarded with lots and lots and lots of names, locations and events, it was too much to remember or even figure out. And I kept getting lost! I was told that it would get better after level 60 but I as I started to actually dread going into this game, I decided it was better to just stop. For those able to go through all that, you are a stronger person than I. You mentioned lots of cutscenes but I can't remember any from the limited time I played other than the opening. Maybe I didn't play long enough? I think I was level 20 something when I gave up.
I've been playing WoW since BC and love the storyline. Unlike some, I do read the quest text and follow the story. I especially love that more recently (with the last two expansions) your answers can be varied and humorous. Recently, I helped one of the Earthen write a book, I helped choose the title, and different plot points as well as how I wanted to sign it. I love that the game remembers what I did or didn't do and that effects interactions latter, sometimes years latter. Example, a character in Shadowlands made a comment about my character killing her way back in BC, but when I had a new character meet her, she didn't say anything about her death. I have a main I've played from when I started but have a few alts. Alts aren't necessary but I love the ability to switch it up if I desired. Mostly I'm a female human warrior (I like humans) but sometimes I like night elves, gnomes, blood elves, etc. with a different class like DPS paladin or hunter, maybe a healer, basically whatever I'm in the mood for. As I love the story, I also like playing characters on the different factions to see both sides of the story as the story is in keeping with your factions POV. I love seeing the dialog between NPCs as the world moves around you. Ans although having my mages teleport can be convenient, I love seeing the world as I travel and dragon riding is fantastic. I know some people believe Blizzard hates its gamers but I don't think that's true. Most if not all changes to the game in the last several years has been based on player feedback. For me, WoW is what I look forward to playing.

FF14 has the worst combat of any MMO. It's slow, and it forces you into a rotation. You specifically have to press buttons in a given order. You don't choose skills, you are given all your skills as you level.
Wow has faster based combat, but still tab target. You have different builds within each class.

... that's the same thing for any mmo brother (if you actually went far enough in any mmo, which I'm sure you didn't, you'd know that you ALWAYS end up having a rotation, and if you don't you end up just doing the same thing but with a different effect, which is ineffective and in the long term you'll just change that so a nice rotation that does a lot of damage), the combat is, in my opinion, the best in any mmo because it has you focusing more on the boss mechanics than in what you'll press next, and sometimes depending on the class you actually have to change your rotation, Also the rotation is very clear, while in most other games you are obligated to make your own rotation... "Oh but it gets boring" buddy you can just change your class immediately, instead of having to make a new character like in 95% of MMOs

@@TurbulenceOfficial_ I've been playing MMOs since Star Wars Galaxies. I'm currently. Thats a bad assumption on your part.
And no it isn't mandatory to either be meta or nerfed in most MMOs. WOW, ESO, EVE, New World, STO, are just examples of games where you have plenty of builds and plenty of rotations. Yes there are meta options availalbe, but you can do good damage with any sort of combination.
In WoW even if I play the same class as a million other people I can choose different skills and specializations to use.
In FF14 I am LITERALLY the same as everyone that chooses that class. In ESO I can be the same class and yet have different weapons, armor and abilities.
In FF14 for example as a Samurai, I have to use specific skills in a specific order or I do basically no damage. I don't mean that I'd be lacking optimal damage, I'm saying that I would basically do no damage.

I'm sorry, but if you're gonna force me to progress through a shitty story in order to continue playing the game, then at least go back and rework it now that you have the resources. I'm lv 63, have been so for a whole YEAR because I absolutely hate going through this mediocre story. "Oh b-but it gets better in Havensward" ARR takes like 100h to complete it (if you watch cutscenes/dont skip it that much. Its like 20-30h for a normal player with normal skips), if you're gonna feed me rotten meat dipped in shit for 100h just to finally deliver a decent sandwich, it's not worth it.
There's games that released 20 years ago with a much better story, so age is not a problem. Multiple MMORPGS struggled with their earlygame storylines being shit, yet they went back and reworked it (look at BDO for instance. Still a mediocre storyline, but at least its better than 4 years ago). FF14 brings in millions and millions of dollars, yet they cant go back and rework the story? And by rework I dont mean make it shorter. I wouldn't mind playing 100h if it was good. But it's not, and literally every single ff14 player knows this.
They know their story is so shitty, and leave it like that on PURPOSE, because otherwise why would they sell fucking story skips? Not even WoW has those. Literally no other mmorpg has story skips, just level boosters. But no, they sell that separately. My biggest regret is listening to the ff14 dickriders and not buying a story skip when I started when it was on sale. I'm pretty sure the game is ruined for me at this point, even if I'll enjoy the story and the gameplay later, ARR left me with a sour taste, and HW isn't that much better either. I heard the new expansion story is pretty lame too. So yay, can't wait to grind 100h more to get to the 2 decent expansions, and then play through a mediocre story again.

Neither are the best, they're both past their use by date, they are just stale... not that MMOs like Guild Wars 2 etc are any better.

I loved FFXI but I absolutely hate FFXIV. I don't really understand how it's become so popular, it has so many bad mechanics and design choices. I want to love it and I resub every few years hoping lots has changed but it's still a complete slog. The characters in the story are hugely dislikeable - you won't have to wonder whats going on with the story because you'll have to do it all from level 1 regardless. The story is bad, the combat is bad, the daily roulette choices are bad. WoW has it's problems but FFXIV is a bad MMO. FFXIV music is great but the class system is too annoyingly simple compared to XI as well! Very nostalgic menus.

@@aethon0563 Are FF14 players generally this braindead or? They legit listed the reason "thing is bad": characters are dislikeable, bad combat, bad daily roulette, bad mechanics, and bad design choices. They also tried to convey the fact that the game doesn't change at all, as they tried resubbing now and then for the past years. Is this why you guys enjoy FF14 story so much? Because you have no reading comprehension? Because that would explain a lot. They literally said why they dislike it, yet you said "Thing is bad. Why is it bad? I don't know" as a way to mock them. They literally KNOW why it's bad, they literally said all the reasons it's bad.

For FF14 I just want to get cool sets to transmog, get some money to get a house, get into life skilling and play it as a nice cozy game. But I can't. The RP community in this game is amazing. I would literally fall in love with this game, with all its flaws and everything, just to get into that RP, get some cool sets from dungeons/raids, fish and make some gil. But no, I cannot do that, as i'm locked behind horrible storylines in order to level up and unlock dungeons/raids. Oh, but fear not! SE Is selling you a story skip, literally the only game that does that. Why? Because they know their early expansions storylines are CRAP, yet instead of reworking them with the hundreads of millions they get from subs monthly, they'd rather be greedy and get that extra story skip money. I wonder how many new players would've falled in love with the game if it wasn't for this huge wall called MSQ in FF14. "B-but it gets good in HW!" It gets so good in SHB". And? ARR is still like 30h or more if you skip all dialogue and cutscenes, 100h if you don't. Most people play 1-2h a day at most. You're basically telling them "just play this game you don't enjoy at all for an entire MONTH with the SMALL CHANCE that it may get a BIT better". If they remove MSQ being needed to unlock, well, the whole game basically, and leave it as a side thing you do only for enjoyment like most MMORPGS, this will legit become my main game. But until then, I'd rather save that 11$ a month.
Needed to edit to mention: before some idiot comes and says "but acshually you can do that now too" yeah, I could grind 100h to get a fraction of a gil a person that is playing in the latest expansion is making in just 10 minutes, but why would I do that? Sure I can sell silver ore or whatever to make gil, but that's like telling me to eat a slice of bread one breadcrumb at a time, when I could eat it normally, but oh wouldn't you see that! I have to complete MSQ first! Or spend like 30$ to skip it.
