Simon has ALWAYS had the skills to pay the bills. When he was younger, he was taking high risk, high reward shots and that seemed to bite him at times. I remember watching tournaments online and watching him take strokes when he didn't have to. Fun to watch "Simon lines", but I'd like to see him approach the rest of his career with the strategy he played with at DDO and BTO. I can see Simon as a dominant force for the next decade and even earning a world championship to his resume. He deserves it.
I watched some 2016 tournament recently with Eagle, Simon, McBeth, and Sexton on it. And while on some holes Mcbeth threw farther, he also shaped the fairway. both Simon and Eagle went over the fairway trees with huge hyzers and landed to mostly equal spots as McBeth. and i think it was largely due to how much easier the courses were if you could go big, no mando to limit the big hyzer, reachable/bating par 4s, eagable par 5s and Sexton kept up by simply being one of the best putters in the world. nowdays its often just plain stupid to go for some par 4s. back then Simons strength could be shown off and wasn't punished the same way, but also had way more reward by actually being doable. and the funny thing was that Sexton was in the lead with simon and McBeth but on the last hole, a par 3 with a 3 way tie, sexton literally cant throw far enough to reach the hole and simon went in to a playoff with mcbeth, whom he beat on the first hole with a controlled not so far hyzer. i think it goes to show that he wasnt just showing off with the big shots, it was his strength and all he had along with his smooth putter up shots to compete (relative to sexton for example). i think simon simply got better and needed time to get used to the new courses
In the pre-tournament conference he even mentioned that he was going to be playing one practice round and then going into the tournament so he would just find the shot he liked on the hole and go with it rather than overthink like you said. Pretty interesting how it is working out for him almost instantly
He’s doing that for every tournament he’s said in a different interview. He gos home to help w the baby then flies out to the tournament and only has time for the one practice round.
Simon is my hands down my #1 favorite player! If you want to keep this channel small...don't cover him anymore! I'm warning you that I just might subscribe if you do! :P
And nr 4: Hes only playing one round at the course before the first tournament round. This is mainly because he now is a father and that is time consuming. But he said before this tournament that only 1 training round helps him to not overthink the course and that it might be a winning recepie, that came out to be true.
Watch out Portland because Simon is in fact coming on strong using a similar method as James Conrad...they're doing it by reducing mistakes rather then adding anything more to their games. They are accepting the safer shot they know they can throw well and then just getting the most they can on that. I sensed Simon was coming on strong long ago and warned everybody but now I sense he's here to stay and it's really just a new more controlled way of showing off! Simon has always been my favorite player simply because he is the most entertaining to watch and I sure hope he knows this tamed down version is easily every bit as entertaining to see...keep it up Simon
congrats simon, very happy for you, keep it up and learn from the past, can take you a long way. has anybody heard anything about eagle? trying to find out if he is ok. i like all the big names but always like the underdog. if anyone knows anything about eagle, please let me know. thanks.
When a man has a child and starts a family it lights a fire under his ass to provide for his family. I think that's what's really going on here. It's human instinct.
He has a patreon, people send him their money. He's basically being paid to exist, like elite disc golf welfare. Nice situation if you can get it and he made it for himself, I don't think the baby is going to go hungry anytime soon.
I think there was one important thing you didn't mention that has to do with not overthinking. Simon told Gatekeeper Media that he has only been playing one practice round before each tournament. Also, unfortunately my mouse stumbled across the Subscribe button, apologies.
Idk, the 'dad putt' was only on that one hole 2 of the 3 rounds. It wasn't really a changed strategy or anything. And the eagle throw-in was a bad shot according to Simon himself, he didn't go for the throw in he wanted to park it. Regardless I hope to see Simon keep playing well and get some more W's
You can tell from his In the Bag video that he's made a conscious effort to drop the stability of discs he throws regularly. I'd say he's throwing far less than 80% effort on most shots. The DD3 couldn't have been developed at a better time for Simon, now he doesn't have to crank on those PD2's for his max distance
love simon but he won because he didnt have to throw a forehand ...he only threw one in his final round...in his last 2 tournaments they have been courses where he doesn't need a forehand...same problem eagle is having...he is going to have to totally reinvent his game because eagle was so reliant on his big forehands...i think paul is also struggling because he is not throwing as many forehands as he used to ...anyway great win simon...way to adapt..
He threw multiple forehands. I believe every approach on hole one he threw forehand. And also hole 18 I believe. And to say he only won because of limited forehands is stupid. James Conrad won world's and doesn't throw forehands. Not everyone needs them.
Don't overthrow. Don't overthink. Once your body knows what to do, just let it do its thing. I started playing 18 months ago after a 20-year break and as soon as my body remembered what to do, I just took my stupid mind out of the equation and I started winning. Maybe I should change my eponymic nickname.......finally. (#6977)
How to win: be able to throw 637 ft at 80% power
It helps.
🤣
Puts bag away and cries quietly.
And drain puts from 30 feet easy
🤣🤣

Simon say’s have fun! Good to see you back on tour. Congratulations 🎉

I love Simon. Dude’s legendary.
Great recap. What a weekend for Simon

I had the pleasure of playing 18 holes with Simon and getting to know him. This dude deserves everything the world can offer period
I am legit proud of simon. Love you bro!

Screw that, no small channel for you! Subbed!
Great breakdown. Lace lines, make putts, minimize mistakes.
Yes! Thank you Bobby
was great to see him win

There is a video out 2 days ago with Eagle testing out the new Italian c blend pd’s . Search his name on youtube
@@ryansuter4424 thanks man.

Welcome
Great video!
Thank you, Nicolas!
Simon says #1 key to disc golf "have fun" and when Simon says we should do.
POV: You're watching this after Simon won Portland Open.
More excellent content. Keep it up.
Thank you very much 👊
Hey Rota Disc Golf! The high-pitched ringing sound in your voiceovers is gone! great work fixing it!
Hey Luke, thanks for letting us know!
When it comes to distance the Key thing Simon said was he can throw just as far with the discs he now has.
what
He is now throwing less stable driver discs than before.
He is throwing less stable driver disks than he threw before.

I do think he grew up a bit, but the injury forced him to dial it back, find a sustainable style..
I read "when a manchild starts a family" lol
Sure, but it's his contact that makes him money. Not the tournament prize money.
He has a patreon, people send him their money. He's basically being paid to exist, like elite disc golf welfare. Nice situation if you can get it and he made it for himself, I don't think the baby is going to go hungry anytime soon.
@@subspaceanomaly Somebody is jeeaallooouuussss
My only doubts about Simon involved his elbow and focus. Watching his videos or playing on tour it's been clear he still has an elite game.
How come you didn't show that 20' drive? That's Simon's new 'Lull them into a false sense of security' strategy.
Guess he did not want to share every secret
Great video
Thanks Rick!
Try this: throw far, put your upshots close and make all your C1 putts. I promise you'll do well
Haha guys I'm gonna prank them by subscribing
Come on, man! 😂
I think there was one important thing you didn't mention that has to do with not overthinking. Simon told Gatekeeper Media that he has only been playing one practice round before each tournament.

Great point. Maybe fewer practice rounds at this point in his career helps him stay healthier?
Watch the video of him and McBeth calling the others lines. He said playing Paul’s lines that he played better.
The main reason he was able to win again is newly gained "dad" power.
I have such a noodle arm that even if throw a driver and whizz by the basket the come back won't be too extreme.
He threw the ‘dad putt’ five times this tournament
Is this Paul McBeth’s voice?
Wow so Simon is good when he isn’t trying to showboat? Who would of thought!!

Reddit when Simon places outside the top 2 next tournament: WASHED UP…WHY DO PEOPLE LIKE THIS GUY? HE SHOULD RETIRE
Let me guess:
1. Incredible shots
2. Incredible distance
3. Incredible putts
= 🤑
Is this Paul Mc Beth’s voice?
you should do video about Kristian Kuoksa :)
It's in the works
Yet the Mutant is what Discmania released to commemorate his win.
Dumbest shit ever, I swear
Guess the Sky God 4 wasn't ready yet
+ only did 1 practice round . HOW
How to win - 1. play good 😅
This video already needs a new intro lol
he wins?

I would be content if my strategy were to lower my suckitude. Lessen the derpaciousness.
that amazing eagle was bad shot and got lucky
Not subscribing just commenting on a great video!
Thanks for respecting our wishes 😂
