Just picked this up for super cheap off B&H. First gimbal! Thanks so much, Jason! This video was excellent for setup - so much easier than the instruction manual.
Me too! A buck-80 + tax. So glad I held out for years to get a gimbal. I bought it blind because of the test, I hope it’s everything I want in a gimbal. How are you liking yours? I’ve been out of town so just opened mine. It arrived on Wednesday I believe.
Just received mine as well! Took advantage of that BH offer. Blind purchased at $179 before tax and just getting familiar with it watching this video. Feels very solid and footage is super smooth.
I got one as well but my gimbal itself is having trouble maintaining battery or charging. If its stored for a couple days the handle has battery but the gimbal is dead.
After reading all the reviews I still bought one for the crazy sale price. Mine arrived with eh language default either Chinese or Japanese, I watched your video a few times to get the sequence to access language setting, finally got it. Thanks for the set up video. I am going to redo my balance a few times till its easy as your balance process.. thank you!
why is it so cheap on Amazon, i mean atleast from where i am..for a second i couldn't believe my eyes. Maybe considering getting this as my first gimbal
If you read thru the comments it looks like this gimbal has some issues... I honestly did not have any when i used it, but clearly based on the comments I would look for another gimbal. I am using the Ronin RS3 Mini geni.us/aqJ3rx currently for reference
Just got a great deal from B&H on this gimbal but have occasional problems with the pan drifting to the right. Any ideas? Great tutorial. Very helpful with setup!
Hey Jason! Great video and thanks for all your explanation. Quick question... do you have any issues with some shaking on the gimbal sometimes? Is well balanced but on some occasions starts shaking and has to change the mode to POV. THanks!
That auto calibration is on crack. If I use the auto calibration if will take the pan motor to half power and my gimbal will shake like crazy. I dialed it down to a 2 and now it's smooth as butter.
I've got this issue on a brand new gimbal bought in UK. Note they have reduced the price - dramatically - so maybe this issue is more common than we think!
How good is this really? I just bought it couple months ago it was on a crazy sale. I have a gimbal but a couple small things just bother me enough to buy this. I like that it's solid. I like the case lay out and you can remove the handle and still use it. I'm just wondering this would be the heaviest one I've ever used do you notice it or not?
I actually gave mine to a friend that needed a gimbal, because I have a few others and to your point it's really heavy. The remote control aspect of this gimbal is what sets it apart from others I feel like with the dual batteries and all. Other wise it works pretty similar to other gimbals I have used, just heavier...

Hi Jason, I've been thinking about doing some video and I just bought this gimbal. Very helpful tutorial, thank you. I am having an issue though, the camera and gimble start shaking agressively at certain positions. I balanced the camera and did the calibration. Any ideas what that might be or where I can get some help? Thanks!
I'm not sure as mine never did that... I would certainly update the firmware and if it still happens, I would return the gimbal. I say that because a few other people have also complained about this in the comments area.
you make it look and sound so easy where my experience is different. I have no idea if the gimble is balanced when i mounted the camera after the 3rd set up step (3rd arm / motor) The touch screen i'm finding is crap, not responsive at all, being on the autistic spectrum does not help me asoi have just emailed manfrotto and asked if i can take it over to their UK warehouse which is a short distance away from me here at home for them to teach me how to use it. they did with one of their fold up back drops. In short i'm begging to question was it a good idea to buy this as its not the easy set up etc as you show, nor is the touch screen, time will tell
Hey Jason, thank yoou for this video, it help me a lot. when I use the inception mode, the motors don't stop vibrating like he is doing the calibration, the solution is that you have to calibrate the motors by holding the stabilizer horizontally like when you use it in inception mode and it works :)

HELP PLEEEEEEEEESE, i dont wanna return it...

Jason thanks again your video has been very helpful I'm doing my first wedding with this. Not my very first wedding I've done just my first using this gimbal hope everything goes well
Hi just received my first gimbal, and wondering why I can’t use the focus wheel for pan, tilt or roll mode is there any thing I need to press or change in the setting?
@donmariano5489 I'm having quite a few problems with the gimbal. The software update won't complete. Takes an hour to get to 50% 1 of 3, the track function has no adjustment due to update problems. It won't connect to my camera. Function knob doesn't work. I think it's all to do with software update problems.
To slow the shutter speed down to 1/50 sec which is double my frame rate of 24 which is what I recording at. Otherwise the shutter speed is way to fast and the footage will look jittery to the human eye... You always want to film double your frame rate as a rule of thumb...
I had to wonder about the sound the gimbal seem to be making when the motors moved. I am used to gimbals that are dead-silent in operation.. was I hearing something else in your studio or was the gimbal actually making motor noise? That would be a deal breaker for me…
Bought one of these based on your review...unfortunately after balancing my camera (*several times following this issue) and updating the firmware the gimbal developed a severe *'shake' which made my camera look like it was on a trampolene! Awaiting feedback from Manfrotto (UK). However, have noticed that B&H and Amazon's Manfrotto's store in the UK have suddenly reduced the price of the MVG300XM dramatically...so wondering is there an issue with a batch of the gimbals - or am I just 'unlucky?'
I have no issues with mine, so I would say unlucky lottery, and the next generation gimbals are coming out now like the DJI RS3's for example, which is why this one is on sale in my opinion...
I just bought one of these and it arrived today. I have had a couple of issues so far. When I perform the motor calibration, the gimbal shakes. Is this normal? It also shakes and makes fairly loud noises periodically while it's running. Is this normal? I also had the issue with the gimal batter not charging (top part). Seems like others had this same problem. I was able to update the firmware and that resolved the issue. Any thoughts, tips, etc would be great!
If you watch the video you will see it is normal to shake during calibration. It should not shake once calibrated though. The top part and bottom part have separate charging ports also...
@@Jason_Hermann Thanks, I'm learning a bit about the nuances of the machine. I didn't see it shake during calibration but, good to know that it's normal. I think the noises are just it trying to keep steady, I think...the Gimbal seemed to freeze a few times especially if the top is not charged and the bottom is trying to calibrate. I then have to separate the top and bottom in order to turn off the bottom. Overall, I like the gimbal. Didn't take too long to understand what's going on and your video helped tremendously. Thanks for sharing!
i have seen that the balancing is very heavy to move the pieces. and i have also seen that the speed of the joystick is too fast also at number 1. what do you think? thanks
Hi, Great video!!, very helpful!!, I got a 300XM but it will not connect to the app, I have tried two phones, one android and one iPhone, no joy, neither detects the gimbal, I see in the app store reviews that many others seem to have the issue also, I have refreshed to factory a few times in case it may jig something but sadly no!
I had zero idea what this monster was about, as I almost cancelled that discount pricing due to thinking my little Sony ZV1 was way too inadequate for such a large unit once I unboxed it. Low and behold, this thing can remote? What? I did nearly zero research on the features and compliments it has to the Sony line of products from mine (meow meow) to your Lion of a camera and features. What a miss that would've been, plus your setup walkthrough was a puzzle solver. I had no idea how to put anything together. Now wondering is there a Gimboom style monopod I can get that keeps me under 50.00 since I won't need the weight capacity you might? Thanks,
Just got this gimbal on B&H, and when ever I start it up an auto tune it starts vibrating and one of the motors makes ringing noise. Has anyone else been having this issue? with Both small and larges lenses, I haven't exceeded 5.5 pounds yet. So not sure if mines just busted or if the motors make noise, but the severe vibration shouldn't be happening.
@@brucecurrie6913 During calibration process that vibration is normal and you saw that in this video no? Once the camera is calibrated it should operate smoothly...
Hi, thanks for your tutorial, but I have a doubt, I have a Sony A7 m4, can I control the apertures and speed of the machine on the gimbal? If so, how do I configure the machine? I am not getting this configuration :( Thanks.
thanks Jason, I wonder for a long time about this gimbal because I was very enthusiastic about the add-ons and extensions. In the end I chose the "old" DJI RSC2. I remember someone who reviewed the MVG300XM said that it was probably an old product from another manufacturer that had been upgraded.
Well the 300xm module is knew and most likely an updated version of something for sure. I think it has a Manfrotto twist to whatever it was originally though. I'm not sure what honestly, but this unit is significantly better than the rsc2 in my opinion owning both. It is heavier though do to the features... Thanks for the comment and all the best, Jay
@@Jason_Hermann, I grabbed this unit from BH photo for only 199 dollars. And I was looking to control my camera remotely, and this works perfectly. Just $200, this is like free of cost. The functions it performs. Thank you for the details video. I learned a lot.
@@nexttvc, same here. Luv B&H! Found a coupon that brought it down to $179 and threw in the Gimboom for $124. I thought for that price ($700), I would give it a try. I spent an hour trying to find the fine print on the B&H site telling me it's an open box or refurbished + watching reviews. Everything looked legit.
Hi Jason! Excellent tutorial you presented here. I just wonder if we can actually zoom in/out using this gimbal OR we can only take photos? Thank you so much!
@@Jason_Hermann hey, thanks for the video. I bought mine, I mounted the handle to the other part to charge..A green ciecle appears on the screen with 100 in the middle!!No idea what s that mean where it s not fully charged..that release button doesnt become hard when i lock the lever as in your case at 3.38 m ...Not sure why!!?
Hi Jason...my gumbal never stays in the proper position with camera facing straight forward. If I double press the handle button to "recenter" it does move to the proper position but then slowly moves clockwise to about 1 o'clock position. What setting in the menu can a fine tune adjust that? I've been using the Weebil S for a few years and it never would veer off very much but there was a menu adjustment to zero/center the pan and tilt positions. I would have attached a pic if I could in this comments section.
That does not sound right at all. I never had that issue and it sounds like a issue with the gimbal honestly. I would suggest returning for another or calling Manfrotto for suggestions. Possible a firmware update via the app would fix that?
when you separate gimbal and handle- how would the gimbal part fit on a video-head like my Manfrotto MVH502AH ??? can i put it directly on the MVH502AH or do i have to use another plate ?
@@Jason_Hermann yes, i know the 1/4 thread , but the bottom part is agled on the sides and it looks like it could fit into standard Manfrotto ballheads/ videoheads.
Hi Jason, Great helpful video. Despite buying my gimbal in the UK the language set on the control is not English! The downloaded Manfrotto instructions don't go into the detail as to how to change the language!! I've got to the right screen under the more menu but then get a blank as to how to change things without just keep returning to the same screen. I've attempted to seek help elsewhere but without success so far hence hoping you maybe able to help? Many thanks. Colin
Very thorough. Good job. We bought the Manfrotto MVG300XM right after it came out. Overall we love it. However, I am flabbergasted that Manfrotto comes out with a gimbal that can control a follow-focus but does NOT come out with a FF motor! They still don't have one after almost a year!!! In fact, they make a small FF motor. We bought it only to discover, it won't work with this gimbal. That's Crazy! Shouldn't take more than a firmware upgrade to make the current motor work with this gimbal. When we had another gimbal, the knob on the gimbal easily controlled the FF motor and I nailed focus every time. So, we now have a Sony a7SIII and the auto focus on it is so good that most of the time I'm OK but I still can't work a 2nd AC to do focus pulling. I have expressed my frustration to Manfrotto but we still don't have a functioning focus motor.
hello, did you ever get a focus motor to work with it? ive purchased this with a motor on the Manfrotto site but they dont seem to work, it powers only, oddly there is a option on the handle screen that says electronic follow focus but its just greyed out
@@navpreetsingh8156 Techincally I have something that works but it's a focus motor from another manufacturer and it's heavy and makes the gimbal tough to balance. I did the same thing...bought the small motor from Manfrotto but it never worked. It turned on but no matter what I did, the gimbal would not recognize it. I finally reached a human being at Manfrotto and they said they were "working" on a new motor but it has never come out. I use the Sony a7SIII on our gimbal and its auto focus is so good that I usually have no problems. This lack of a follow focus motor that works with this gimbal is frustrating and makes no sense with a big company like Manfrotto that has always made good equipment. They dropped the ball on this one.
@@hamdouch26 I didn't know the price went down but I wouldn't be surprised if it did since Manfrotto has not supported and even promoted this gimbal. It's a great idea and good design that didn't reach it's full potential because of lack of support from the manufacturer. Sad. It seems like everything these days is geared toward the DJI gimbals. So, if I had the money, I'd get an RS 3. It would be more money once you start adding options like FF but it's so well supported that there are tons of great extras available.
Being 66yrs old and autistic buying this gimbal is going to be a huge leap forward for me , so i hope i can keep referring to your video. I am a experienced stills photographer but you can write on the back of a postage stamp what i know about video

Good demo! Thanks, for a very helpful intro. 😃
You're welcome!
thanks
Great tutorial. Thank you very much. 👏
Can you zoom in with it?
Thanks! You can't believe how you made my life easier!
You are very welcome and thank you for the super thanks :)
Hi, Great video!!, very helpful!!,
I got a 300XM but it will not connect to the app, I have tried two phones, one android and one iPhone, no joy, neither detects the gimbal,
I see in the app store reviews that many others seem to have the issue also,
I have refreshed to factory a few times in case it may jig something but sadly no!
Thanks,
Thanks!
Thank you so much. Super Help full.
You're welcome!
Thanks
Just got this gimbal on B&H, and when ever I start it up an auto tune it starts vibrating and one of the motors makes ringing noise. Has anyone else been having this issue? with Both small and larges lenses, I haven't exceeded 5.5 pounds yet. So not sure if mines just busted or if the motors make noise, but the severe vibration shouldn't be happening.
During calibration process that vibration is normal and you saw that in this video no? Once the camera is calibrated it should operate smoothly...
Had the same issue - maybe that's why Manfrotto are selling them off cheap at the moment! Hope not!

Jason, excellent video. I just got a used version missing the quick release mount plate. Do you know the dimensions of the plate by chance?
Also if you know if the part number for replacement that could be a huge help. The photo store doesn't seem to know which part to send me :/
Hi, thanks for your tutorial, but I have a doubt, I have a Sony A7 m4, can I control the apertures and speed of the machine on the gimbal?
Has anyones stopped charging? I purchased two and one stopped accepting charge. I have been unable to contact manufacturer. B&H has been no help
Hi Jason! Excellent tutorial you presented here. I just wonder if we can actually zoom in/out using this gimbal OR we can only take photos? Thank you so much!
Great video, thank you.
I’m watching it while waiting for delivery…
You are a life saver! Thank you so much, you earned a sub man.
Thanks for the sub and your very welcome Jeffrey!
@@Jason_Hermann hey, thanks for the video. I bought mine, I mounted the handle to the other part to charge..A green ciecle appears on the screen with 100 in the middle!!No idea what s that mean where it s not fully charged..that release button doesnt become hard when i lock the lever as in your case at 3.38 m ...Not sure why!!?
thank you!
You're welcome!
Thanks!
You are very welcome and thank you :)
Do you have any videos on how to use it as a steady cam?
when you separate gimbal and handle- how would the gimbal part fit on a video-head like my Manfrotto MVH502AH ??? can i put it directly on the MVH502AH or do i have to use another plate ?
When you separate the gimbal, it has a 1/4 thread on the bottom for plate mounting, but in my case I screwed on the mini tripod in this video...
@@Jason_Hermann yes, i know the 1/4 thread , but the bottom part is agled on the sides and it looks like it could fit into standard Manfrotto ballheads/ videoheads.
Hi Jason, Do you know why the Gimbal moves by itself after every time I use the joystick controller? This happens even after calibration. Thanks
Actually it is panning by itself
You might need to adjust the sensitivity settings of the joystick
I got this gimbal for 200 usd. What is your choice between Feiyu Scorp C and Manfrotto MVG300XM ?
I never used the Feiyu Scorp so I can't say....
I also got this same deal haha so far so good. The app sucks and won't connect to the gimbal so I'm not sure if there are any firmware updates lately.
Colin
What company did you buy this from, and did you resolve the issue.
@@baz_rayaz After a roundabout journey I finally reached the right help from Manfrotto and resolved the situation. Thanks.
Yes, I don't understand this either and it is frustrating David!
hello, did you ever get a focus motor to work with it? ive purchased this with a motor on the Manfrotto site but they dont seem to work, it powers only, oddly there is a option on the handle screen that says electronic follow focus but its just greyed out
@@navpreetsingh8156 Techincally I have something that works but it's a focus motor from another manufacturer and it's heavy and makes the gimbal tough to balance.
@@davepov hi, do you think the lack of this motor made the price go down on amazon? I just recileived mine, if ff not available should I return it
@@hamdouch26 I didn't know the price went down but I wouldn't be surprised if it did since Manfrotto has not supported and even promoted this gimbal.
