    Not the way I teach it, and not the way I learned it in Ranger School, but use this anyway just to show the Cadets that a lot of this is just technique.

      Right on, there are the core principles, then TTPs! Everyone does things slightly different.

      @@collinsokoth1046 Things that I would do differently (it's technique): 1) make sure that the element left behind in the PB location after leader's recon has a radio with them so that if anything happens or changes, they can alert the rest of the patrol. It also helps with far recognition when the rest of the patrol approaches, just like any other form of link-up; 2) specifically, take the AGs from each MG team on the leader's recon and leave one at each apex, this speeds setup of the MGs when the main body arrives; 3) the PL does not have to emplace each squad him/herself, that is time consuming and micromanaging SLs. When the main body arrives and files in, 1st and 2nd squad file in behind the PL, who leads them through the 2 o'clock apex to the 10 o'clock. The SLs emplace their people along the way. 3rd SL leads his/her squad to the left (clockwise) upon entering and emplaces the squad him/herself. Much faster, and the PL can get on with other priorities; 4) there are multiple techniques for R&S teams, they don't have to go from one apex to another - it depends on terrain and visibility, going from one apex to another is the highest risk method (fratricide, misorientation) - if the terrain supports it, the simplest thing is for each R&S to leave from the center of it's own squad, go straight out about 100m, move laterally as needed to check out for deadspace, and then return on the same path and to the same point they started from.
      Other things can vary too, of course - they didn't mention the leader's recon clearing the proposed PB location prior to emplacing the apexes, that is a necessary step. I tend to leave the WSL in command of the stay-behind element when the PL goes back to get the main body. I also keep patrol bases pretty small - it reduces the amount of movement and noise needed to maintain command and control. Dig in only if the noise and movement won't compromise the position - the primary "protection" of a patrol base is concealment, not fortification.
      Anyway those are techniques I normally favor. I hope this helps.

      It's a two part password usually, not sure if the US has any specifics about what they make it. Your challenge is part one, said by the guy guarding, the password is part two said by the guy trying to come in. Also used in other places just to identify friendly forces.

    I have a realy stupid question to all the soilders: You all know this. So when you train with your own people, do you count on them doing stuff like that to predict theyr actions?

    • @Veltrosstho
      @Veltrosstho 11 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah, that's part of the training. Everyone has their role, and so long as you do your part, you've increased everyone's chances of survival.
      If you mean during operations where we train against ourselves, yes, we use all knowledge we have at our disposal. That's how things like this become standard through combat testing and training drills. Because they work REALLY well, even if people know. You're not getting close to this spot without catching fire, and we'll be up and moving before you can call in artillery.

      It only has to work once. That’s why conducting drills repeatedly and consistently is pertinent. So we don’t get smacked by a 556 round shot by a joker that doesn’t practice or train. And you have ample time to practice drills and get it down packed in AIT (second section of OSUT)

    Question. The "leaders" that go in together for recon, are they "leaders" in the sense that they are higher-ranked or highly competent, or in the sense that they are simply "leading" the patrol in? It seems like you wouldn't want all of your MVPs smooshed together just in case something bad happened as it would drastically reduce the effectiveness of the patrol. I aplogize for the phrasing. Every way I tried to word the question, it sounded jerkish...

    • @uuuuuu8373
      @uuuuuu8373 8 месяцев назад

      "Leaders" are most likely the ones in charge of whatever level. Patrol leader is in charge of the whole patrol, squad leader in charge of the squad.
      If something bad happens, the next will take charge. There are no MVPs, just people with more responsibilities.
