Footage of the last British troops evacuating Aden and the aftermath. The 42nd Marine Commando is seen putting their flag down and carrying equipment running to a helicopter.
In England, at RAF Brize Norton, interviews were held with Lieutenant Colonel John Owen of 42 Marine Commando Royal Marines who said that he felt they were making history and couldn't believe the time had come to withdraw. All went very smoothly and the men took it very well considering that they handed over to the people who had been killing their colleagues.
Brigadier Dick Jeffries, Commander of Aden Brigade said that he was pleased to be back and felt a sense of achievement and praised the troops especially the younger ones.

My oldest brother watched them leave while serving i n the Royal signals, then had to drive back to head quarters at Steamer Point with his officer after the photo shoot for the press. He always laughed at the description on in the papers, saying there were a good few soldiers left for quite a while, until he got another posting. Incidentally i served out there at RAF Khormaksar 7 years earlier. Never forget the lads, quite a few were National Service men.
