Thank you so much for this video. My husband is 46 years old has been on dialysis for 2 years 4 months and is waiting on the transplant list. He has IGA disorder and isn’t diabetic either. This story is so relatable as my son is also in high school as you were when your mom started dialysis. This gives me hope that our family will make it through this as you know it puts a strain on you over time. It is often an emotional roller coaster. God Bless your mom and thank you for putting this video out. Mom did a great job telling her story.

Wow this is so beautiful! Just last week a woman in my bible study shared that her husband’s cousin died from a brain aneurysm but one thing that was able to comfort the family was he was an organ donor. He was able to donate FIVE organs to five different people! It is difficult to comprehend how one family’s tragedy can be another’s blessing. For her and us as believers we know that God is sovereign in all things. It was also beautiful to relate organ donation to the work Jesus did on the cross. While organ donation can prolong life and provide a new organ to someone...Jesus’ sacrifice gives us eternal life and makes us completely new when we put our faith in Him for forgiveness of our sins.
Thank you so much for sharing this story with all of us!

This warmed my heart so much! My mother was one of those diabetics 38 years ago who needed a kidney. They never mentioned a pancreas that I know of (I think pancreas transplants may not have been possible at that time), but she had two kidney transplants. The first kidney was donated by her brother; her body rejected that kidney. Five years of dialysis later, we got "the call" one Sunday afternoon in July of 1981 that a match had been found. Someone had passed away who was a donor. She and my dad flew immediately to Nashville, TN, from our home in Greenville, SC, and my mom received her new kidney late that night. All that next week, we were so happy that that new kidney was doing its work like a champ and her body was showing no signs of rejection. However, on Sunday night, July 19, my mother suddenly went into cardiac and respiratory arrest. My dad called and said I needed to come. His brother flew with me and my grandmother to Nashville the next morning (my first time to fly!), and we arrived to find that, while they had my mama on life support, she would most likely not live without it. There was already brain damage. My dad and grandmother agreed that they didn't want to keep her alive with no life, so they gave permission to remove my mother from life support. She lived only about 20 more minutes. I've always been so grateful to the unknown person and his or her family who were willing to donate a kidney to give my mother one more chance at life. Her body had been sick for so long that it was unable to recover from such major surgery, but she at least had the chance. You might think that I would be bitter to hear your mother's story, but I am SO SO glad that her health was restored and she is doing well all these years later!!!! Praise the Lord that we have the technology to save lives through organ transplants. This is a subject that is close to my heart. Thank you for sharing your story!

I know this was posted a year ago but just now saw it. How wonderful for everyone involved. It is a true gift. I know, because I was given my sight back by a cornea donor. I have the red heart on my license, too.

In the Netherlands where I moved to in 2017, a new law came into effect in 2018,. that states every person is an organ donor unless they opt out. Children at the age of twelve can register to be an organ donor

Rebecca Albrecht That is AWESOME! I’ve always thought that they should do that in the US.

    • @EmmaAppleBerry

In singapore i believe everyone is automatically registered to be a donor and if you chose to opt out then youre at the bottom of the list to recieve one if you ever need to. Unsurprisingly very few opt out and the ones that do tend to do so for religious reasons. And its not easy to opt out either its like a bunch of paperwork and signatures and reasons why so if you end up needing an organ you cant suddenly change your mind and say i take it back. And since literally everyone is a donor and obviously deaths a thing natural or not then people who need organs arent getting weaker in hospital on neverending waiting lists.

@@sandg5248 good question! We'll do a follow-up! Alot of blood tests to figure out the correct drug combinations, we didn't know this, but at the two week mark post surgery there was fear that her body was rejecting the kidney, but they were able to figure out the correct medications to save it. Ironically, there were more restrictions while she was in dialysis, many foods she couldn't eat because they're harder for the kidneys to process, but immediately after transplant she could go back to eating everything, it was quite remarkable!

Im amazed how I happen to come across youtube channels of people who, after watching them for a while, share my life stories. Its like the same people attract each other. Last week there was a channel I subscribed to and later found out she had a 21 yr old Autistic son and she was searching for activities as an adult.Same story!! Now ,I happen to LOOOve your channel, and you guys have the dialysis issue. My family...(mom,aunt, brother, cousin are all dialysis patients {polycystic disease}…..my mom passed away, my older brother donated to my younger brother, etc.I also have the disease but am not in dialysis yet. THANK YOU for making such a loving video, encouraging others to donate and give LIFE, the best gift.

I am an organ donor and I hope that one day I can help others though I may end up on dialysis myself, who knows. I have extra kidneys but they are small. I was born with duplicated ureters. When I was a teenager I had a diverticulitis in my bladder causing serious pain and it was discovered that I had extra bits. My uncle at the time was on dialysis and I wanted to donate a kidney after my surgery but my kidneys were too weak to help him. I found that very frustrating though it is possible that we were not a match as he was an uncle through marriage. My cousin passed away unexpectedly last Christmas and she was an organ donor. Death is so difficult but some peace is given to the family when they know that they person who passed has been able to help others. Thank goodness for people like Vicky! Every best wish to your mom for a very long and happy life :)

Loved this! I have been a dialysis technician for 27 years. My goal is with God's help, to give my patients as positive experience each day they come to tx. that they possibly can have And for those who are eligible for transplantation to stay as healthy as possible while they wait. I am so happy for you. Thank you for sharing your burden for transplantation. Unfortunately the average wait is 5 years now.

But this woman gave lovingly 💕💕💕 I’m happy for your mom and all of your family!! It’s awesome all the time, love, and memories you’ve had over the years since!! I knew that I liked your Mom before this video because of how she raised you girls, but this video made me love her. I started crying just as she was telling how her donor walked into her room the day after the transplant. While this video may have been out of her comfort zone she contributed to the many who need transplants by speaking up on this platform. I love watching your family/families and will continue to value your love and contributions to each other. Thank you for sharing.
