    Much better performance will be obtained by making the regeneration adjustable. A convenient way to do this is by adjusting the detector bias. Maximum selectivity and sensitivity occurs just after the detector starts oscillating.

  • @erikdevriese671
    @erikdevriese671 9 месяцев назад +3

    The sensitivity can be improved bij adjusting the quench frequency (change the value of the quench resistor/capacitor to respectively 5 microH/ 3.9K) and by slightly reducing the feedback capacitor to 7pF. In that case it is imperative to use a HF transistor (I use a BF180) for the superregenerative detector. I experimented a lot with this design and found that still better results are obtained using a low battery voltage (1.5 V) for the HF part and make the bias adjustable (4.7K pot trimmer + 470K base resistor). By adjusting the bias, sensitivity can be brought up just to the point where superregeneration just starts. It is possible then to receive FM stations WITHOUT superegeneration and quite high selectivity. For the HF tank circuit coil I used a 2 turn coil made of 2.5mm thick standard copper wire.

      @@lambdaprog Not at all. Superregens are deceivingly simple devices, because you only need a low number of components. Putting one together is a matter ofless than an hour, but getting it to work properly is a matter of experimentation and ... patience...

    I was forgotten about this design.
    Gonna try it this schematic and hoping to make it more selective.
    Been working on it last night and found out that the radio works alot better when you put the base capacitor to the top of the coil, it gains more sensitivity.

    Superregens good for 110-140MHz AM aviation band. Bad for FM and NFM.
    I think - low IF receiver can demodulate AM, NFM, FM and SSB, CW with 32kHz clock crystal as a second oscillator.

    Hey Peter, I built KE3IJ's version using 2N3904's and it worked great on the bench, as soon as I stuffed it in an old metal CB walkie talkie shell, it stopped oscillating. I can hear a rushing from the speaker but no signal on the spectrum analyzer. I think the metal shell of the old walkie talkie is swamping the oscillator and throwing things out of whack, is there anything I should try before giving up on the metal case and finding something else to house it in? I tried changing the 330k bias resistor out with a 75k resistor + 250k pot in series to try and add a regeneration control but that didnt make any difference.

    • @vk3ye
      @vk3ye  4 месяца назад

      Never actually tried it in a metal case. Come to think of it many toy walkie talkies with superregen receivers had plastic cases.
