- Der jüngste Spross kam vor etwa 6,5 Monaten auf die Welt und wuchs im schützenden mütterlichen Beutel heran. Das noch namenlose Weibchen verlässt ihn erst seit Kurzem, macht aber schon Ausflüge in die nähere Umgebung und ist bei der Kontaktaufnahme zu den übrigen Artgenossen alles anders als scheu. Der langjährige Revierleiter Mario Chindemi spricht gar von einem „selbstbewussten und unheimlich forschen Mädchen".
Das Weibchen entstammt einer französisch-australischen Koala-„Ehe". Mutter EORA wurde 2010 im Zoo Beauval geboren und kam im März 2013 an den Kaiserberg. Dem Zoo Duisburg war es nach über einjähriger Vorarbeit zur gleichen Zeit gelungen, einen stattlichen, knapp 10kg schweren Koala-Mann erstmals direkt aus Australien zu importieren. Der sechsjährige IRWIN aus dem Zoo Taronga wurde von seiner langjährigen Pflegerin in Duisburg eingewöhnt und trägt nun wichtige Gene in die europäische Koala-Population. Es ist im Übrigen EORA's erstes Jungtier!
In Zeiten der social media startet der Zoo Duisburg auf seiner facebook-Seite unter
/ zooduisburg
ein Voting zur Namensvergabe. Da EORA nach einem Volksstamm der Aboriginies benannt ist, die ursprünglich in der Bucht von Sydney heimisch waren, schlägt der Zoo Duisburg drei Namen aus der Sprache der Eora vor:
a) Barani (übersetzt: Gestern)
b) Woomera (traditioneller Wurfstock der Aboriginies)
c) Yiribana (dieser Weg)

Einfach süüüüüß! Was mir aber absolut nicht gefallen hat ist, daß der Tierpfleger der Mutter das Jungtier anscheinend mit Gewald entrissen hat. Ich hoffe nur, daß ich das falsch gedeutet habe.
It nice that mom trust the caretaker that she would allow you to take the baby out of her pounch. It shows trust and relationship.
Her flicking her ears throughout the entire ordeal is a sign of discomfort and stress , not to mention the stress it’s putting on her Joey being removed from
the pouch like that, sensing danger from the moms elevated heart rate. This is utterly ignorant from this zoo to treat koalas this way. Very traumatizing for the poor joey. This practice is NOT how you treat mothers and joeys in captivity. Shows lack of education if anything. I’m sure these koalas didn’t live for long at this place as they are highly sensitive to stress.
If baby is so cute but to take the baby out of the mothers pouch is
kind of mean.

Unfassbar das der Tierpfleger zur Schau das Baby Koala von der Mutter weg holt einfach nur unfassbar. Da sollte man sich fragen was den Typ in sein Kopf geht.
Man geht auch nicht hin , holt der Mutter das Baby von dem Arm
Und dann dieses Kamerageklicke ich bin Koala und vom Menschen traumatisiert worden Mama hat Angst weil nicht mehr da bin!!!Kotz auf die Menschen!!!

This is a horrible thing to do and they should know better. Can’t believe they do this and I hope they have changed their practices and educated themselves on this matter. The mother flicking her ears is a sign of stress and discomfort. I’m surprised she’s not swiping and biting him for doing so. Must have been so traumatic for her joey to be ripped away like that. Very disturbing to watch.
That tiny joey looks so frightened.
Please don't treat animals like exposition objects, especially during earliest and crucial "baby-mother relationship" phase! Please don't do it again!

Can people hold ot at least touch koalas in this zoo? I am searchin for places in Europe to do this as usually you are only allowed to see them except in Australia where is Koala- heaven with cuddling them :)
You are not allowed to hold koalas in Australia except for Queensland. There’s a reason it’s banned in all other states. Koalas are wild animals, not teddy bears. They will bite, swipe and scratch you. They are highly sensitive creatures and get stressed very easily. Being put in a position where you’re a “photo object” for tourists to hold is a horrible practice and should be banned in the state of Queensland as well.

The mother is so stressed when he’s trying to grab the frightened joey out of her pouch. I’m surprised she didn’t bite or swipe him. She’s highly stressed looking at the way she’s flicking her ears. I’m sure these koalas didn’t live for very long at this zoo if they were tormented like this. They are highly sensitive to stress and it would’ve shortened their lives by half if this is one of the common practices. No one working with koalas who knows what they’re doing would approve of this. Very disturbing footage.
Horst Frank wenn man keine Ahnung hat sollte man Lieber den Mund halten. Ich glaube es gibt kaum einen Gewissenhafteren Tierpfleger wie diesen.
