I love Steve. I think he's really come through in his own. He's embraced himself and completely come out of his shell since xfm and it's great too see. Very smart, entertaining and funny man

@Anglus Patria You could be right. What I know for certain is that Stephen is much funnier and quicker.
@@hesch-tag Gervais is a self confessed control freak and obviously a narcissist, like most celebrities you would think. As much as I enjoyed Afterlife, it did come across to me like a show that would have benefitted from another collaborator. In the same way that The Simpsons was always at its best when it had the partnership of James L Brooks for the sentimental stuff and Conan O'Brian for the gags, I feel like Gervais always produces his best and most balanced work when he partners with Merchant.
@@kind-hearted-thievesjoe1512 I totally agree with you. Initially I liked After life but now I hate it with a passion. Yes there are some funny bits but it's such a lazy effort ( he basically created an excuse to play himself and gets away with it because he is grieving), he now thinks that using the word 'cunt' in itself is funny enough so he doesn't even bother to make the context funny. The shrink is just awful (a very poor copy of Chris Finch), Almost all the people in that town are complete idiots and we're supposed to care for them. Anything Ricky has done without Stephen Merchant, in my opinion, is much weaker in quality.
