If Sparking zero had a 400 million dollar budget it would have every character in dragon ball history in it. the fact that much money went into a effin video game THAT FAILED really confuses my understanding of economics. 400 mil sounds like it could bankrupt an entire city.
They weren't allowed to talk negatively about the game. So now I'm imagining a bunch of Randy Marshs going around in their office being sarcastic: "Oh, this gameplay is SO great. FAR better than what Overwatch has. These character models looks AMAZING. I LOVE how they all look like they were in bootleg halloween store when it exploded." Maybe that's why it got so out of hand? It was a real life version of South Park's episode "Sarcastaball".
They've made 0 profit out of Concord. And the fact that the budget, $400 million, doesn't even include the cost of buying out Firewalk Studios just screams out of touch. It also doesn't help the fact that Sony brought out Bungie for $3.6 billion. Japan Studio, died for Concord. I'm absolutely disgusted and angry with the state of Playstation.
That explains the sad PS5 Pro showcase. It showed only PS4 games and remasters and was so short because they expected Concord to help sell it. It was timed around the release of the game too. "You'll have better graphics and FPS on CONCORD!!" 😂
@@tiger-rgn they released the 30th Anniversary series too. It has retro colorations and neither of them comes with the disc. They do come with a matching disc cover. Throwback without a disc. Pre orders start the same day as the Pro but they have NOT released the pricing. 😂
@@tiger-rgn Oh definitely lmao. Suits must have been fuming to increase the pro's prices right away, that 400m budget is INSANE for such a flop. It even smells like money laundering if I'm being honest.
Toxic positivity needs to be a bigger discussion in the gaming space. You can tell by the state of Concord and their behavior that these people live in a bubble. A blind man could've looked at the character designs in Concord and known somebody fucked up. I guarantee nobody was allowed to speak up, though, due to the threat of being dogpiled or reported to HR for bullshit reasons. It isn't even just game devs it's affecting. Gaming communities also do it. Helldivers 2 went from being on top of the world to losing 91% of its players within months. Why? Because the community was constantly glazing the game as the developers made it less fun and the mods banned people for being critical in the official Discord. It took the CEO demoting himself and pushing out an emergency megapatch to get HD2 off life support. Toxic positivity kills games, and nobody is talking about it.
At about 16.30 Mike says "why didn't you go to HR and say there's some nut job who screwing up all the designs. There has to be some kind of hierarchy". Oh, I can't wait until he finds out that is literally the guy at the very top of Sony who made this his pet project. The crap was literally coming from the guy at the very top of Sony. Edit Herman Holst is the lead guy/CEO of the PlayStation department of Sony. He's the guy that makes all the decisions.
That 400mil doesn't include how much they bought firewalk studios for and probably any advertisements and tie ins either meaning the spent alot more than just 400mil
There has been so many failures in history of gaming. The Atari E.T. game, which caused the video game industry crash of 1983. The longest development hell of Duke Nukem Forever which killed the franchise. The rushed and undercooked Sonic the Hedgehog game from 2006 which ALMOST killed the franchise too. Just a few examples that come to mind. I have never seen a failure so huge and stupid like Concord in 2024. At least for the previously mentioned failures, you can make some argument or excuse for it. For the E.T. game you can say that the developer was given a very limited time and was working on very limited hardware the atari, for Duke Nukem Forever you can say that the developers had no idea of what to do and the technology along with their plans and directions kept changing over and over again until they just rushed it out. Speaking of rushing out, Sonic 2006 was also made in a very limited time frame and was rushed out. Going off topic for a brief moment, Sonic 2006 despite being a bad game, even the most loyal fans defend it believing that it had potential and it could have been good. That's why fan games like Project 06 exist. Because the fans believed that even though Sonic 2006 was bad, that doesn't mean it had to be bad. It could have been good. Maybe even the best Sonic game ever. It was just made under bad circumstances and wasn't given enough time to cook. For Concord however, there was just no excuse, no bad circumstances, nothing. They were given so much time, they had all the technology they needed to make it work, and they had so much money to work with. You can't even make up an excuse or argument for them if you try. The only bad circumstance and excuse Concord has was that it had lazy and toxic people working on it. I know I said earlier that Duke Nukem Forever killed the DN franchise and Sonic 06 almost killed the Sonic franchise, but for Concord, it literally killed a franchise that hasn't even started yet and never will have a start of any kind. Concord died before it could even live. At least Duke and Sonic had some good games before and even after their biggest failure. Concord will never be able to live on nor experience any good in it nor have any sort of fan base or even a cult following. Plus of course, the biggest nail on the coffin, the fact that it costed them 400 million dollars to a big name company like Sony. I am aware that games in general cost. Whether they succeed or fail, it cost. I can see Sony and any other company that has failed in the past recovering sooner or later, but these failures, especially Concord, will never be forgotten like Mike Hollow said.
I still cannot believe them shambolic character designs got through to final product. No lie I used to make better character creations in Soul calibur 3.
Totally. It was doomed to fail, honestly. Its aesthetic is just unpleasant, and that sentiment applies to pretty much everyone not on the dev team itself lmao. It might have had a chance if it was f2p, but I highly doubt it still.
It's so cool seeing Last Stand Media make the rounds like this, those guys are great I think a big issue is Sony has become too western centric, they need to back to being Japan centric
From what it looks like its not a dev problem but a sony problem, sony need to do a reconstruction which it looks like they have seeing as it has a new head hopefully he can push better games but unfortunately sony will in the coming years be just like xbox. Get ready to stream EVERYTHING
Yeah. Bungie made, Destiny. Other than that, you have to accept criticism, & feedback from the consumers “that are paying for your game” or else this is what the outcome becomes such as this.. This is crazy…
Bro i fw how y’all roast in the Uk “that’s ambitious say to least” like nbs tho wat are y’all talking bout them proper insults hurt 😂😂 my guy said someone over there is smoking some extremely powerful 😂😂😂😂😂 then proceeds to call em mad
400m is absolutely, completely insane for this game. As other people said here already, that probably doesn't even include buying Firewalk itself, and all the marketing. WHY would someone look at Concord and say "Yeah, this is our future!, flagship IP right here!" Meanwhile Bloodborne still on the bench, what are you even doing Sony?!
Just remembered that Mj has super powers in the comics now, what if they introduce that into spiderman 3 giver her an even bigger role So miles, silk and Mj would be playable
Oh, it's worse than that. I was actually on the fence about Andypants as of recent because he's a newer channel, and I absolutely HATE Act Man, but apparently after that debate Andypants tried to copyright the stream and have it taken down from Act Man's channel. Lost all respect for the man. I don't like Act Man but that was a cowardly move on Andy's part.
He's very childish in my opinion. He shouldn't have agreed to a live debate. Not everyone can do them. With the power of editing anyone can sound coherent. Act Man made him look really stupid.
As a Canadian, it hurts to hold that L not to be that guy but usually it's not the developers who encourage toxic positivity culture but the management at the studios. Developers generally don't have a lot of power internally. I guess we could call the managers developers but they're not the ones who actually build/design the game

the phrase "toxic positivity" completely explains how a monstrosity like this was even allowed to release😭😭
Too many Yes Men
When they said in the video “Apparently Concord was Herman’s baby” Hermen Hulst is the current CEO of PlayStation 😢
They need to replace him before it's too late.
This should be a budget lesson for developers. Throwing money at a game doesn’t make it good.
It should be, but history will repeat itself like it always does
If Sparking zero had a 400 million dollar budget it would have every character in dragon ball history in it. the fact that much money went into a effin video game THAT FAILED really confuses my understanding of economics. 400 mil sounds like it could bankrupt an entire city.
400$ million to produce Concord? That is such a giant waste of money. A game should not cost as much as some government budgets to make.
