You should see the ones for The Brothers Grunt, they're not as off-the-wall as the Eds but they are very imaginative. Sort of a prototype for their use in this show.
I love the minor grotesque and absurdist details that remind us that Antonucci is still an adult cartoonist at heart, like the mess and broken tea set of Sir-Ed-A-Lot, the eyes and eyebrow floating in the milk of A Glass of Warm Ed, and the disembodied tooth laying on the ring mat of Tag Yer Ed. Edit: And the eyeballs in the bird's nest of Ed-n-Seek, I literally just noticed that now.
a pinch to grow an ed was the worst episode of season 1! not only Eddy was horribly tormented, but the Kanker sisters had to make it worse by literally trying to murder him with Ed and Double Dee when they were trying to help him! they kicked the boots which made them fall back to earth which was really disturbing! every time I watch that scene, it gets stuck to my head! that's why I will just skip to the end
They had to change it because they needed to credit more writers and animators in the beginning, so this one was deemed too short. But I agree, it should have lasted beyond season 1, they could have just edited it like they did for the later theme in season 5.

I'm still wondering why the theme for Pop Goes the Ed and Over your Ed were slightly different, like they couldn't have done the same for some of the other episodes. I personally also think this theme should've stuck around for season 2.
There's an indication that those two episodes were produced very early and used an earlier version of the title card music. They had to refine the show's animation which is why it got delayed to air in January 1999 as it was originally meant to air in November 1998. I'm guessing they had to air Pop Goes the Ed/Over Your Ed as is because it was most likely already fully finished with the lower-quality animation.
