Nice defense Tortuga. Looking forward to the start of day 2! I also like the intros you give concerning you battle plans.
Thanks Evil! Good to hear, I really like to set the stage in the beginning (honestly as much for myself as anyone), so we'll keep up with that. The opening of day 2 may include a little more historical background too, since I quite like Col. Chamberlain
Congratulations on the glorious victory, general!
Advice for the day; pay more attention to the commanders. Assuming I've understood the mechanics of the game correctly(haven't played it, have just watched WAY too many let's plays), they are your main means of regaining lost morale - something many of your brigades are beginning to struggle with(union soldiers being what they were...).
To aid this, it may also be a good idea to try and keep your corps somewhat unified where possible, I.E. 11th corps to handle one front, 12th to handle another, 1st in reserve, and so on, as it allows the corps commander to keep maximum possible numbers of his men in maximum possible shape at all times.
...as far as the current situation allows, of course.
You are *so* right, I have been really neglecting my commanders and corps unity. Although the last group that came in, the five brigades, they didn't have a commander. I should look at the OOB a little closer to see if they're attached to one of the existing corps.
Pretty sure they're not.
I noticed they're all part of the 12th, which has only accrued 200casualties to far, so I doubt they've had any presence in the earlier battles.
Still, if they've shown up in as big numbers as they have, then I doubt their commander is far behind.
I can't but wonder why the likes are not higher compared the number of views. This is one heck of a game. It requires strategy similar to that of the US Army War College. That you are able to function at the level you do is of course easier just because you can see the whole battlefield in a manner General Lee could not, but he was one of the finest generals ever to field an army. He did have a sense of overall knowledge of what the enemy could put up against him. He actually should not have been suckered into Gettysburg without adequate information on the enemy positions and what he could actually bring to bear. A couple of his generals really let him down. However, what the South lacked in material was more than made up for in spirit. I wonder how fair the AI is in pressing the advantages given at one time? Anyway, congratulations on being able to articulate your strategy so very well. Extremely well played!!!
Thanks for the comment. I don't know what factors go into giving a video a "like", but I honestly don't care much. I do use it as somewhat of a barometer of appreciation for a series, but I think the mature crowd is less likely to interact (comment or like a video). Also, I don't have an outro requesting subscriptions and likes.
As to the game and the strategy and all that, that's always really important to keep in mind, is the huge value of the bird's eye view. I know there is one game (I want to say Scourge of War?) where you actually play as a general on horseback, and issue commands based on reports. I think Lee would have avoided the whole disaster if he had Stuart scouting instead of raiding, but that's just novice speculation.
Very nice Play through 1 - 04 for Day 1, will be watching your Day 2 later this week, Congrats on your epic victories so far, may they continue.
Thanks, Chris. Without spoiling too much, I'll just say that the enemy doesn't give up easily!
Your welcome, I have been playing it Myself lately when I haven't been busy but it is nice to watch someone else play it and as a Brit it is nice to hear a bit of back ground on the history you cover while playing, very clear and precise speech and quality video. keep up the good work, I will be also looking forward to any Civil war play through also if you get around to it as I will likely get that from steam next.
Very well done! A solid defense all around with the South West taking and resisting heavy punishment! I don't mind the intro's it's a good recap and sit-rep for the upcoming battle. Can't wait to see the Union roll over the Rebels!
Thank you! I was pretty confident going in but they had a lot more forces in the SW than I thought, and we couldn't take the high ground before they got there either. But it made it interesting at least.
I know the answer!! (at 3.00). Barlow's Knoll is the modern name for Blocher's Knoll. Renamed after Gen. Barlow indeed. The game script has confused the naming.
My hero! Thanks so much.
