I usually upgrade every year, but this year taught me the lesson I should’ve learned a long time ago, upgrade every five years. Great video, as always!

i honestly stopped upgrading every year like 4 years ago
5 years might be a bit long to wait , I keep all my old phones , I still have my 7.5 year old galaxy S8+ 😊which is still in pristine condition and a cool old phone ,
I occasionally fire it up and use for a little while , you can definitely feel a bit of the oldness in it’s operation , I have my galaxy note 9 next to me which I still use occasionally , my 12 pro max , my 14 pro max my pixel 8 pro , the note 9 is also still in pristine condition, but feels a bit more like a 4 year old phone than a 6 year old phone , I could still be using it , but it still is showing a bit of age , its software has been unsupported for about 3 years. Probably my 12 pro would be the oldest I’d consider still using as a carry around at 4 years old , its software still is up to date and works fine, but I can definitely feel a couple of very good improvements in my 14 pro max between those models , the 15 series and 16 series on day to day imo are not such big steps.
The 14 still performs well, and the extra buttons are probably not that much of a difference maker in day to day life imo , still good to have though.
Probably the usb upgrade would be felt a bit more useful imo.
The AI thing might be handy when it comes occasionally, but I’m thinking in daily life in practice it may be way less of a used feature than advertised, but time will tell.
i just upgraded to the 16 Pro Max today from the XR & my mind is BLOWN . i concur, the longer one waits , the more magical the upgrade feels

Upgraded from the 14 pro max. Been loving the battery life and usb-c has been game changing! Especially with the hurricanes we’ve been getting in Florida, and loosing power, I’m still able to charge my phone with my iPad that support usb-c 🥰

The battery life and the new A18 Pro chip is GOATED. Plays all my games on the highest settings and battery lives up an entire day of vlogging in Tokyo and NYC! Camera is amazing for taking selfies, group photos, streaming, and recording. Simply a perfect phone to have!
I upgraded from a 14 pro Max to a 16 pro Max, and I have no regrets. I’m really enjoying the Phone I think while RUclipsrs tend to focus on the previous generation the reality is most people don’t upgrade every year particularly if they’re locked into a two year payment plan which is my situation The upgrade from the 14 pro Max 16 pro Max are more meaningful. I no longer have the lightning for any more and have USB C, and a much better camera as well as for superior Battery Life and better thermal heat management. I definitely agree with you regarding the camera control button. It just isn’t that useful beyond opening the camera, yes the design is boring and conservative, but I like boring because I don’t see as boring for the sake of being I see as boring because it’s reliable the phone does what it needs to do, anyway great and honest with you.
You helped make my decision. I have an iPhone 15 pro max and I was going to upgrade to the 16 pro max but I’m going to hold off until next year and hope there’s more of a difference. Plus I haven’t had any issues with my 15 pro max.

Why would you be upgrading from a 15 pro Max in the first place? This is the problem when you upgrade every year? The changes are gonna get smaller I upgraded from a 14 promax to the 16 promax and the changes are more noticeable, I get USBC, a much improved 48MP, and a 48MP ultra wide camera and a 5x times telephone photo lens. So for me, the changes are meaningful and that’s without even mentioning the huge improvement in Battery Life.
Had mine for three days. Upgraded from the regular iPhone 13. New phone is great! Everything is nicer 👍
The heavier complaint, unless you're an annual upgrader, this phone will be noticeably lighter than other Pro Max phones from 14 Pro Max and prior

I upgraded from the 12 pro max and so far I love it improved battery life and notice some difference in speed so yeah I’m enjoying my upgrade
I went from the 15PM to the 16PM, because of the iPhone Upgrade Program, but this year felt a lot less substantial of an upgrade. I had high hopes for the camera button but it requires too much pressure - images are at risk of becoming blurry.
Had the 15 pro max for the full year, Just got the 16 pro max. To be honest i dont like it as much, love how my 15 pro max felt lighter and just felt better. 16 pro max is just to big i think.

I love my 15 Pro Max
I personally went with the iPhone 16 plus in black with 256gb. I chose the 16 plus for the price and it has similar features that the pro models has.

I upgraded from the 14 pro max to the 16 pro max and I still feel like I’m using my 14 pro max honesty minus the AI features. I’ll probably skip the 17 pro max next year as I’ll still feel like I’m using my 16 pro max. Upgrading every cycle isn’t worth it in my opinion!!

I think I will stick with my 14 Pro for another 3 years. I really hope Apple gives at least 90Hz refresh rate on the regular iPhone models. When they do that, I will upgrade to that model from my 14 Pro. I just don't want to spend again on such a small spec bump and since I don't use the camera that often, the camera control (button) is like a gimmick to me.

6.9" is already tablet territory for me, it's already slightly uncomfortable to pocket a 6.7" phone and I'm personally looking more for a 15 pro max at this point

@@mianusama28 as much as I wanted it be that way but I’m already trapped in Apple ecosystem and some of my app data are tied to iCloud so yeah. I mean it’ll be fine since this phone will last me for another 5 years maybe then I’ll see what’s on the market again

Upgraded from 14. Was happy to have the new charger, better battery life and now with a pro better camera since I record now for social media. I’m happy with my decision and I got natural titanium I love the color.

My 14 pro max has a broke camera , the battery is trash and i definitely have the money to afford a new one, however I won’t upgrade because I can lie to myself why I need this new phone when it’s so similar. I’m a fan of getting a new phone and have long it feel new. If anything I’ll find a repair shop to fix my camera but I won’t spend 1200$ to have a 95% same phone

Good review for sure, I’m glad you spoke about the phones strong suits while not letting it get away with the downfalls it does have. I upgraded from a 12 Pro max which served me reliability for 4 years! Yes upgrading from a 15 Pro max this would absolutely not be worth it. However I have learned that is better to upgrade your IPhone every 3-4 depending. For me, it’s been a really decent upgrade, i like having the safety feature of crash detection since I drive around 30K miles a year. I enjoy the slightly bigger screen, not it’s not insanely noticeable however I can tell it’s a little bit bigger! The battery life is absolutely insane, I used to have to charge my 12 at least twice a day if not three times. However if I have been able to get it to last all day. I really like the 120 HZ refresh rate, It feels super smooth and responsive. I take pictures all day long and I do like the camera control however it does need some updating. One major downfall is it down work with 3rd party applications. I use a software to upload pictures to patient’s chart and the camera control doesn’t take the picture from that app. Once you click it launches the camera app.
Overall I like it! I keep these suckers for the long time so I will see how this sucker holds up over the next 4 years

Why? 14 pro still great. Cannot see any convenience in Europe. No AI, no fast charging, no 2 days battery, no cool design, always the same.

21:42 Its not that there’s “5 different ways” to take a photo, it’s that you can take a photo with any external button on the phone. Improves accessibility and in the moment response time to take a quick picture.
The key to upgrading the iphone each year is having sold your previous model to cover at least 80% of the new price. If not keep your "old" iphone. As simple as that.
Ive upgraded from the iPhone Xs Max and it feels like a night and day difference for me
I upgraded from the 14pm and it felt like a lot of changes as I skipped the 15. Noticeably better battery usb c titanium action button camera button and slightly bigger are all things that felt like it’s been worth it. I didn’t realize my 14 was so heavy until I went to this and now I really enjoy it
Justifying the capture button will always be funny to me
My new 16PM is a work-reimbursed equipment so I love everything about it (and it feels different than my 15PM).

Almost 15 years with Android, tried iphone before twice, didn't like it at all, it was too locked for me so I switched back right away, about to get the 16 Pro Max, hope I don't get disappointed again. I'm keeping my android as well for backup

It’s the best iPhone but I think the upgrade from the 15PM is very minimal this year.
16 Pro Max is great, but I think this year, the regular 16 Pro has got better upgrades than previous generation. Battery life for instance, is significantly better than 15 Pro, which was horrible. Also, the comfort of having a small phone yet the same cameras as max is something different!
PS- Don’t go for 128GB model, at least go for 256GB or more.
Does 8GB ram matter when it outperforms 12GB ram in ram management? Because the 16 Pros do slaughter the 12GB Samsungs in the ability to keep apps open
It's designed that way because of adaptive battery. You can adjust those settings for each individual app if you want to. I have no issues with ram management.

I have a 11 Pro Max and it’s definitely not slow. I think you made an assumption based on specs and not on feel. Everything in technology hits a plateau. It’s inevitable. As someone who is researching to buy a new phone I don’t want to hear complaints about it not being significantly better than last year’s model. Just review the phone as is.

This explains why I upgrade every 4 years and not every year. Now if I wanted to I could easily upgrade twice a year but it’s just a waste of money. Apple needs to move to more drastic design changes every 2 years for freshness.
Although I like the gold colors because that’s my favorite color out of all colors, I do really want to see a product red. My son has the body red in the 14 plus. We are upgrading our phones and he doesn’t want to switch because they do not have red. My daughter also wants pink. The colors are not even an option in the promax and that is crazy.
I have more fun with the Google Pixel 9 Pro xl than i do with the iPhone 16 Pro max.
Apple took away the landscape Home Screen I believe with the iPhone 8. I wish they brought that back. I always buy the latest and greatest iPhone Pro Max every year. I was going to hold off on this one but then decided to get it anyways because I will get a lot more for a one year old iPhone 15 Pro Max with 1TB in excellent condition this year than I will next year when the 17 comes out or in two years when the 18 comes out. So, in the end, since I'll get at least $1,000.00 for my 15 Pro Max and I can get these at a 15% discount and there's no sales tax, in the end it's just costing me around $350.00 per year for the past 4 years to get the latest and greatest. Might be a stupid move on my part but I'm happy and comfortable with it.

I’ve ordered the 16 pro max should be here in about 2 weeks. Coming from a 13 pro max.
On the weight thing Nick , you cannot always have it both ways mate , you want more battery life and a bigger battery , then you have to accept some sacrifice , if the max is too big for you, the smaller model is available .
And it’s only 6 grams heavier than the 15 pro max …. 6 grams …. Almost nothing !
And the 16 pro max is still 13 grams lighter than my smaller 14 pro max 😊.
Personally I love the direction Apple is going, I’d happily take a bit more weight if I’m getting a bigger battery, and I like the bigger screen too.
If Apple went to 7.5 inches I’d be down there tomorrow with my cash , again there is a smaller model for those who prefer that .

I previously bought the Z Fold 6 and also wanted a iPhone, so I bought the iPhone 16 pro. Max kept about a week and a 1/2 and was like nope. This is way too heavy for me to i kept the fold 6, which I love I'm just going to buy. A 14 i only use iPhone for apple pay and Facetime. Anyways, nothing else about it Surprised me😂
