This was the first video of yours that I watched and I subscribed as soon as it was over. Thank you for sharing useful information and just being a pleasure to watch. I love the Be Strong & Courageous sign behind you. I do 15-minute bible studies on my channel so I spotted that immediately. Again it was a pleasure to watch and you were thorouhg and informative. Thanks!!!
Thank you. It means so much that you enjoy my video. I do talk a lot but I want to give as much information as I can in every video. It’s one of the many good bible verses to live by. I think you’re the only one who noticed 😊 😉
Hi Sandra thanks for sharing - I am starting out in this business and found your information useful. I will also check out your other videos. Is there another link to you ebook, the link here did not work for me. Thanks.
Wow so much info... you are awesome and very thorough! The ebook/physical book is very thoughtful and generous as well THANK YOU!! 💓 I can’t wait to watch the rest of your videos!
It has to be fixed on the candle so that the person you sell it to has a constant reminder of the dangers of not trimming their wick or leaving their candle burning for too long. However, in addition to the sticker label you can have the hanging tag. Hope that helps
@@SandraJCTaylor can information be on a dust cover so my label can be minimal in the face of the jar? I keep reading different articles on this but could you bullet point list for me the requirements/ data points that are required on a label vs safety label on bottom of jar?
@@SandraJCTaylor I mean the candle label not the warning label. What a hit that? Can it just be on the box the candle comes in if we don’t want to ruin the asthetics of the jar itself?
If you’re selling your candle in the US or Canada you must have the weight in ounces and grams, your business name, product name, and the address of the place the product was made or you can have the city and state if you have the address on your website or anywhere visible by the public. The National candle association did not specify if it had to be affixed on the candle but I haven’t seen any big company not have that information. I see it this way, I have purchased items in which the label has all the precautions and then an additional label that says to be removed by the buyer only. I as a small business would prefer to have my branding in all my products. Big companies does it especially the clothing industry. They have people be their walking promo model and use it as free marketing. It helps spread the word and it can also be a great conversation starter. Is really up to you not to affix it to the jar if you have the required information on the hanging label.
AAA Candle supply is my local candle supply company I was not expecting to see it on this video 😆 I get all my supplies from them I absolutely love them 😍 P.S a good amount of candle makers are using those wooden dough bowls and they’re perfectly safe for safe candles and burning 😉
That’s awesome. They do have nice candle making items and I wish I had a local candle supplier. Once the bowls are deemed safe by CPSC or the ASTM and they have gone through the stringent fire safety regulations, approved, and are sold by reputable candle suppliers then I’ll agree that they’re safe to use. But because a few people are using them doesn’t necessarily means that they’re approved for candle making. I did my research before I made this video and I also went to those two websites to make sure that the information was still accurate and it is. Only jars that can withstand high heat (glass, metal, ceramics) are on the list. The amount of house fires that the site has reported from burning candles at home is extremely high 12,500 fires 110 deaths, 1,100 injuries, and $248.6 million in property damage and loss. And that was from regular jars so imagine from wooden bowls which ignites fires even if they have the coat to prevent from fires nothing is 100% safe and mixing wood with wax and flame is a dangerous combination. That’s my take on it and my opinion I’m a strong advocate for safety and knowing that I’ve worked with hazardous chemicals in the past and in my current job makes me super weary about how “safe” those bowls really are. And if you can prevent something from going bad then by all means prevent it. Sorry to ramble but this is a very important topic in which we as candle makers should be very cautious about because the lawsuit that will follow will be terrible for a small business like ours. I know you may not be using those bowls in your business but if you’re thinking about it please make sure it has been approved by CPSC or by ASTM.
Hola, I believe I answered this on another comment and possibly another video. If you’re trying out candle making for a hobby or for gift giving then yes it makes sense to purchase small quantities from Amazon. However, keep in mind that Amazon supplier tend to increase prices drastically to cover their expenses. It might seem cheaper to purchase from Amazon at the beginning but often times products with bad many reviews will get pulled out of stock and will not get restocked. Also customer service for that company might be lacking. Or perhaps that item is the only of its kind and then you’re left with being unable to get more because it has been discontinued. Also there might be questions you need answered right away from the company that never gets answered such as what dimensions are the jars or which wicks do they recommend etc. When you purchase from a verified candle making company you’ll have more information for those jars, coupons, sales, recommendations from other candle makers, questions asked by others that you might’ve not thought of that are answered, fragrance scent recommendations, waxes that works best, wicks that pairs well of the jar, how to avoid certain things, mistakes that others made, what worked for them, etc… In other words you’ll have a community to learn from and assistance from others. Plus in my opinion it’s cheaper to buy from a dedicated candle making store than from Amazon where products are not consistent or might be sourced unethically. Hope this helps ❤️
Hi Cheryl, In order for me to correctly answer your question I want to know what wax do you use so I can give you my answer. However, wherever you purchase your candle supplies from particularly your wax and fragrances then that website will tell you the suggested fragrance oil temp addition.
You’re very welcome. I’m going to assume that you’re using GW464 which is the most widely used soy brand. Soy 464 has a max fragrance load of 10% and I would heat to between 180-185 and add my fragrance at 170 and pour at around 140. When adding fragrance keep in mind that it will drop your temp so after your stir your fragrance you must take the temp. FYI I’m using Fahrenheit for temp. Make sure that your jars are warm when pouring if you’re using clear jars otherwise no worries there. Also these were my steps (briefly mentioned) and that was worked for me at the time. I also poured lower at times but I suggest that you do more testing so that you can make candles with your eyes close. Oh and one last thing keep accurate data of what you do so that you can recreate it and have near perfect candles every time. On a side note: I highly recommend that you purchase your wax, fragrance oils, and essential oils from a candle supplier. Many items on Amazon are massed manufactured and may not be of top quality the same as purchasing those same items from The Hobby Lobby or believe it or not Michaels. They’re great for practicing and for gifting but for resell value I wouldn’t recommend. Primarily because of quality and then because at the end you may be saving money now but in the long run you’re spending more. Also, they can’t really help you if you need clarification with candle making products and they don’t have resources listed to assist you.
I highly discourage using any plastic products to make candles as plastic is not suitable for burning candles at high temperatures consistently. Glass and metal tins are the best, safest, and industry approved to make and sell candles. Although we might use a plastic pouring pitcher to pour hot candle wax, however, the wax is not being consistently burned on the plastic pitcher. Even if you let the wax in the pitcher sit for a long time the wax is gradually cooling since there isn’t direct heat to it. Please visit candles.org for more safety information.

What are the legal requirements for labels on a jar in regards to where it has to be? Can it be a tag that hangs on the candle?
It has to be fixed on the candle so that the person you sell it to has a constant reminder of the dangers of not trimming their wick or leaving their candle burning for too long.
However, in addition to the sticker label you can have the hanging tag.
