I got some new sunglasses to protect my eyes out on the water. They’re super polarized, block all light coming in from the sides, and they stay on my face -- plus I think they’ve got a very cool retro style. Yep. i was wondering where Jake and Nicole were. Thouhgt i had started the wrong video.. He He. Maya is trying to confuse us all !!
Over 700 views in the first hour. 😁
@@davidmiller6020 me too. I couldn't get Jake and Nicole out of my head when the music started. LOL
Loved your mentions of how strange it is to wonder why you are doing it all using the logical mind but how perfectly understandable it all is when one just enjoys the act of sailing no matter if one has a destination or not. I remember my joy many times just watching water passing by the quarter close by staring at it .. listening to the bow pushing the water hushing by.
Really enjoyed this episode!!
"Slowing down is the point." Thank you for the longer, quiet segments of sailing. So many sailing videos are afraid that we'll get bored if a segment lasts over 3 secs. The motor shut-down moment is everything and thank you for bringing it to us.
Being afraid of the audience getting bored is real haha, I feel it every single moment I spend editing. I'm so glad you liked this though :) Thanks for commenting! -Maya
@@SailingMagicCarpet Boring doesn't mean lack of action it means lack of interest and your vlogs are ALWAYS interesting. Thank you for sharing your interesting journey "as slowly as possible"
@@SailingMagicCarpet You take more trouble to explain and share your feelings, than some other sailors.
I liked how Aladino coiled the halyard using the winch as support. Nice and east and quick. Neat trick!
Magic carpet got her mojo back! Nothing is more fun then waiting on that big puff of air and all of a sudden the wind 🌬️ boat and the water 🌊 are in harmony. Nice job
When you were going nowhere, and said it was pleasant, it looked like you were trying to convince yourself! And then your excitement when the boat actually started moving... We lived aboard a 42-ft., steel-hulled, 20-ton ketch, and it took major wind to move it along. We would have been motoring for sure. We carried 200 gallons of diesel, so we could motor for long distances. The boat's steel hull was built in Holland!! and the boat finished in England. We (we're American) found Tropic Moon in Grenada in the southern Caribbean. We were live-aboards from 1978-1992. We also went when we were young. Ancient history now, but we have incredible memories. Love watching your travels.
It was convincing to me. I have experienced a deep quietness that comes when one reaches a certain distance from land whether sailing or flying, It is as though one can escape the the pressure of all the things and all the thinking minds that surround us on land--depending on who else is on board, of course. You might have picked up on the paradoxical part: in order to feel the transition one should be in an introverted state, yet Dino and Maya have a job: to be also extroverted in order to share the feelings with an audience made up largely of landlubbers. This is not something that many could do, and it is clear from all the appreciation expressed that this audience is aware of that and really grateful.
I always feel relaxed and happy after watching an episode of Magic Carpet, we'll done guys!
Lovely to see Magic Carpet and her beautiful channel again. I was just thinking “are they going to back wind the mainsail” when anchoring and sure enough, Aladino jumps back and pushes out the boom. Such relaxing viewing
Is really awesome what you do as a sailors and a couple. I really enjoyed the harmony in your lives to each other, as the sailing as well. I was married with a beautiful woman with Dutch heritage and watching this video makes me feel like if I was sailing with her on the little but wonderful magic carpet.
And Maya your voice is what makes the magic happens.
God bless you both anywhere you go.
Ahhh. . .my kindred spirit sings in harmony with you two! SO very much like many hours I've spent day sailing on Lake Michigan between the port cities of Holland, Grand Haven and Muskegon. Pure joy = turning off the key and allowing the wind to fill the sails and gently move you along. Thank you for taking me sailing while the winter winds blow snow past my windows.
This video really radiates the joy of sailing. It puts me in touch with something strong beyond the 'realm of logic'. Enchanting storytelling, never presumptious. Great in its simplicity. Looking forward to the next Fridays. Thank you!
Yay! Sails up! How exciting! I completely agree -- there's nothing better than the engine turning off and hearing wind and water
AHHH it feels good to see your sails up and full with just the splash of water and the sound of the wind - the breath of nature. sailing is a magical thing it is dancing with nature sometimes gentle and sometimes to exciting that is what makes it a adventure every time.
Loved the opening scene of the bow bobbing through the dark blue water below a gradient sky
with the appearance of a benevolent ocean stretching off to infinity leading you to unlimited adventures.
When you are old and wrinkled and gray, which will come too soon, you will not regret these days.
Magic Carpet, the best part about Friday.
Abso. schedule my Friday evening around it.
Dear barely Sailing Magic Carpet couple. 😁😁
Simply wonderful! I totally forgot how much better sailing sounds and looks like. Although I definitely like engines I absolutely loved the silence/peace after you shut down your brave little Diesel.
Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
Best regards, luck and health.
I laughed at the look of concern on Aladino's face when you lost concentration for a jiffy. I laughed even more at the joyful moment of madness when you engaged in an almost drunken excited speech about the happiness you were experiencing. May the wind always take you to a new dream. On the inland waters of the UK, we have a saying "It is the fastest way of slowing down."
Sailing is similar to Soaring (my new passion). Loads of training time, preparation and set up for that moment of bliss! When you hit that perfect thermal and soar up 5k feet up like an eagle! And come back to earth where you started!
The sounds of sailing, without the engine .....wonderful !!
Thank You SO SO much for using our music in here!!
Thank you for producing such beautiful music and allowing me to use it!
I love that Maya, slowing down isn’t annoying, it’s the point. What a philosopher you are. 🦋💕 Wonderful episode for these times, relaxing on a Friday morning. Great music as well.
In this time of the pandemic on the European continent your Magic Carpet is pure magic and relaxation on these peculiar days. There is no friday without Magic Carpet! ❤️
Good one! We wait all week for Friday. Sweet dreams!
Great content, yet again. Like a message for the soul of those who live in a vicarious fashion.
Maya's music slides one into the video, a flowing current of sweet serene sounds. Back to sailin' ahoy ahoy, tackin' with the winds, ahoy ahoy 👍. Always do appreciate the nice the gold "Aladino" (Alodine, irridite or anodized) mast and boom.✨
It's camping but your always at home.Love it!
You get a sense of freedom and History when under sail..... Delightful... :-))) xx
So great to see her sails up again
"Slowing down isn't annoying, slowing down is the point." Yes. It sometimes takes hours to slow down enough to feel fully present. The bliss of that.
I have thoroughly enjoyed your story kids! Thank you for sharing! Take care of yourselves!
Joy, that is the word. Being out on the water with just the sounds of the boat.
your videos are like therapy and meditation session for me thank you. 🤗🤗
Wow I am so happy to hear that, thank you for commenting
Nice to be with you again. So different than your river trek! Dramatic change from motoring to silent sailing. 5 meters everywhere. Wow! Nice to “hear the sailboat work!” Only been able to nibble at sailing during my 77 years. Unrealistically, I would relish being with you as you move about your craft. Larry M. Houston, Texas
A dark and dismal Friday Evening treat: another Episode of Sailing Magic Carpet, sweet memories of the Netherland's Cycle paths; the peace that descends when one switches off the engine on a sailboat,; the pleasure of sailing ' not going anywhere' in particular. A good 'shakedown' sail. Such insightful commentary, Maya
A very nice day to get back into the swing of things. Thanks for the video. ⛵
I love your joy of sailing and your acceptance of a slow pace at times. Thanks for sharing
Yeah - it's friday - and the weekend starts - of course with your video and a glass of wine - you literally pull me out of the week. thank you
Love your videos. Maya has such a lovely voice and is a great story teller - I fell in love with your story telling and grit from your videos about Curlew
Very nice to see you again under sail, albeit going nowhere as slowly as possible. I can relate to this from sailing with my friend in Hervey Bay, Queensland, Australia. We once spent 3 hours exactly in one place due to light winds and a strong tide. All we acheived was a good case of sunburn.
Another lovely episode. Thanks!
"Slowing down isn't annoying - slowing down is the point...". Amen. Best wishes to you guys.
Im so happy i found this channel, i love your music choices and your videos are so calming. Thank you for doing this.
Music, narration, vid all exceptional
Wonderful commentary, laced with paradoxical observations. Thanks for sharing
I would really like to know why ANYONE would give this channel, or several other ones, a thumbs down!!!
What is there to dislike? I will pretend that the people who do it are immature adolescents.
Maya! Thank you for another wonderful peaceful video of joy and wonder!
Aladino! You are so competent and sure.
"We are not gonna try! That's what we're gonna do!" I love it!
YEP! "DO or DO NOT! There is no TRY!"
Until next Friday then...
If one inadvertently clicks twice i becomes and unlike, and, if you are not attentive you might not notice that you have done that.
I love the company of the windmills as they stand sentinel for your journey. It looks cold, but your dress tells me it is not. I wish you luck and health.
Lovely to see you both happy, we maybe fools as sailors but I'm glad I'm a fool emjo enjoying the wind and the waves too, happy weekend 😀
Thank for sharing your story with us...
What a stunning anchorage
I needed this today. Thanks for sharing your story with us that watch your channel. Outstanding balance of water and sky to bring another Friday to help me move on to the weekend. You are a real treat to watch. Thanks.
It was amusing to watch your video today 12/12/2020 and hear you speaking about the joy a sailor feels when turning off the engine and raising the main sail in the breeze. Today I explained to someone who has never sailed before why it is so magical to me. The same exact words.
Fair winds ~ and following seas.
Love watching you both live my dream
Ah, the joy of riding the magic carpet. Great video, story telling, great ride as always. You'll get you sea legs back! Fair winds and following seas!
Maya, you’re a peach. Mother says you might not understand our definition of “doddle” so I rewrote this. We really appreciate the two of you. Such a charming couple you guy’s really do work well together. Warm regards
Really enjoyed this. Perceptive and atmospheric. Great editing - and sailing!
The edition is so well done! Beautiful video, really enjoyed it!
"Who knows when we'll get there, and who cares?" What a refreshing philosophy of life from two world travers so young.
Another wonderful episode! I love the subtle colour you added to the map, its an interesting change!:) I’m looking forward to your episodes every Friday^^ Cheers, Chaim
So nice when there is sand to anchor in.
Verry happy that i find this channel 👍
Thanks for reminding us ... to slow down :-) Sending Christmas greetings ... and much love from Mexico. xo
like always a delight to see you enjoy sailing life.
Oh how I love noticing that your latest video has been uploaded... can’t wait for the season to start so I also can feel the joy of sailing again.
Nice to see you sailing again
9:40 They actually shut down an entire 2-lane each way highway by opening that last bridge, hence they only open every 30 minutes at fixed times, and only very briefly.
You guys are just AMAZING ❤️❤️❤️
Exquisitely done. I thank you!
Beautiful boat, beautiful lifestyle 💚👌💙
You two are so fortunate to be sailors married to sailors. I once met a man that knew I had sailboats but, asked if I was a sailor. He went on to explain there are sailors and people that learn to sail. Sailors are born sailors. It's like they got that from past lives. They are comfortable on sailboats from the very beginning. People that learn to sail may or may not like sailing but, they don't really "get" it. Their boats aren't a living, breathing thing that communicates with them.
My ex and I were together about 4 decades and found sailing in the middle of that. We owned 5 sailboats, I still have a 17ft pocket cruiser that's been hanging from the rafters in the garage for over 13 years. We lived in canal-front houses with boats at our dock and direct access to open ocean for 7 years. She was too bored when the sailing was boring and too excited when the sailing was exciting. She didn't much like sailing. I can single-hand some boats but, I don't like sailing alone, it's lonely.
I have had a very good life, lots of joy and happiness and I wouldn't trade it away. I just didn't have sailing so much in this life, maybe the next will be a sailing life. Thanks for sharing your sailing adventures.
I have sailed very little. But whenever I have, I have LOVED IT! A buddy of mine took me sailing once many years ago. That was my first time. When it was my turn to handle the tiller and make the course decisions, it just seemed to be natural to me. He attempted to direct me but then saw that things were good... and then let me do it! I don't have a sailboat and probably never will but I have built sailing rigs for a couple of canoes and have used them very effectively even managing to go upwind in light breezes.
@@rickkwitkoski1976 When the sailing bug first bit me I went to the public library and checked out a bunch of books on learning to sail. The one that worked for me was one that had been translated from French and the first thing the author said was he couldn't teach anybody to sail by reading his book. He said buy, beg, borrow or build a way to get you to sailing and then come back to the book to find answers to your questions. I had never set foot on a sailboat and I drove over a hundred miles to haul home a 21ft San Juan that felt right looking at it on it's trailer. A short time later we took it to a Indiana fishing lake in April (cold). After that, I didn't have any questions, just a hunger for more.
I'm guessing you don't have a boat because you don't have a place to keep it. Free or close to free boats are out there. I gave away a Irwin 10/4 because I was moving and couldn't get a fair price for it. There are lots of ways to get on a boat, lots of people that need crew. Hope that helps.
Welcome to the Netherlands and enjoy your stay! Nice to see our waterways through foreign eyes. I’m a Dutch sailor and let me know if I can help you in any way.
My most favorite channel :)
Nice day to start sailing again for you guys 👍⛵️but never underestimate the IJsselmeer; with a force 7 or more you’d wish you were on the ocean ! Very tricky and dangerous waves(short and steep because of the shallow waters) most Dutch sailors know... enjoy Holland, it’s lovely 👌😊
Hi Guys , so nice to see this episodes . You guys a very brave , me .. well might used to be in your age, doing 12 years sailing on the ijselmeer and wadden sea with this steel flatbodem clippers with these lee board on each side . I had lots of joy these episode before becomiing Master at the merchant navy. I admire your aim , your focus and strenght , knowing that its not always sunshine and a gentle breeze .
. I started on the rhine rivers commercial trade withn my parents a beautifull time as well . I am blessed , you guys are too!!
When you visit Amsterdam again , please let me know .
Karel
Good to see you sailing love it thank you
I smiled through the whole show.
In the opening credits intro with people playing instruments ... it reminds me of Aubrey & Maturin playing a violin & cello on board the Surprise in Patrick O'Brian's wondrous novels!
Beautiful music, luv it, great video as always.
not bad for boat that fell off a crane. Like the roofer said- "it's not the fall that will kill ya -it's the sudden stop!:) "
... I like honest folks ... it is what it is and to go with the flow
Bravo! sailors are sailing again.
Oh please more of your music Maya
Lovely video, thanks!
You somehow manage to sensitize the true meaning of MAGIC.
Another wonderful video. Thank you
If Magic Carpet had a soul, it would be a happy soul. No more grind and grown from the engine. Just peace and quiet.
Sailing is the best way to go slowly somewhere. 😎
I was born in the Netherlands. Live in Sint Maarten Dutch West Indies. Enjoy your trip immensely. Did most of my sailing in the Caribbean. Maybe see you there. Safe sailing (Frank Boekhout)
Haha, like you said sailing is a part of the Dutch culture. I have a boat and do just like that " sail around in my free time"
Exspensive hobby, but worth every penny.
Nice video again!! You can anchor everywhere except in the fairlane, but of course you know that.
Great to see you sailing again and congratulations on the continental crossing, impressive accomplishment! I know you're not in a hurry and maybe a little rusty after the canal cruising, but wondering if you have tried twisting open the top of the genoa and mainsail leechs in very light winds, say less than 7 kts true wind speed? It may seem counter intuitive but it will make your sails much more efficient in very light winds. It's because in light winds, about 7 kts true wind speed and less, the wind will be significantly stronger at the masthead compared to deck level due to surface friction with the water. That means as the boat starts moving forward, the apparent wind angle is significantly different, more open, at the masthead compared to deck level. Twisting open the leeches will better match the sail shape to the apparent wind angles from the foot of the sail to more open at the masthead. A big benefit is less motoring time in light air, which makes it worth the effort! Keep up the great work!
Beautiful video.
Thanks, guys!
Yet another great vlog: Thanks for helping me stay sane during the pandemic. Merry Christmas. Stay safe.
Neat little boat!
"How does it feel to raise the sails?"" "I already did once." Maya the poet and playwright and Aladino the practical..... ;-)
Maya if you are not already doing freelance voice over work you should consider it. You have a great catalog already!
Love the boat ,my first boat had a tiller !!!
Slow sailing is nice as long as there is no swell from other boats.
hello sailors, nice video! I once heard that the anchor swivel remains intact when a shackle is placed between the anchor and the swivel. Then there is no more bending moment on the swivel. Greetings from Martijn from Kampen
Watching S03 Wow 😍
Soundtracks were awsome
❤🇵🇰
“Slowing down is the point....”. New song title Mya? Looking forward to hearing the complete version of the one you keep showing us clips of. Your singing voice sounds as beautiful as your violin.
