Sailing in Dangerous Waters to an Unnamed Reef at Take Bonerate National Park in Indonesia

- Episode 407 : Season 13 : Sailing Indonesia
Hello Friends,
On this episode we navigate our way though the many unhidden dangers that come with poorly charted waters. Using satellite images as charts I plotted our course through the dangers using only the visual of the images and not traditional sea charts we usually use and trust.
We arrived at an amazing unnamed cay in the Take Bonerate National Park and were treated to surreal scenes.

Just after you guys dove in, and talked about water temperature, there was a moment of pure silence, that I had to rewind and here again, I can not wait for the day me and my wife finally sail away to places like this, where your mind can truly disconnect from it all

When you guys were on that sandbar in the middle of nowhere… just wow. What an experience. I hope I get to see something similar one day in person. That type of peacefulness is rare. How the sea and sky were one. Just beautiful
Living the dream James love it 😻
Nice to see very little boat work on your channel as someone who is working to freshen up my Rival 32, mainly electrics and cosmetics but also some engine work it’s great to see the reefs and the sea and not a repair dock in sight

Awesome film- thank you for making and sharing this experience.
Wow. You been to places that 99% of human never been. Niiiice🎉
Nice video not sure if you have or know of the “No Foreign Land” app for cruisers but they have the ability to view NASA satellite images within the app. These images have proven to be far better than 90% of the sat images out there. It’s a great one for cruising the more remote areas. Cheers and enjoy the sailing in Indo it’s lovely. If you have the time make sure to get down to Sumbawa and the SW corner of Lombok to Gili Asahan it’s a wonderful little hidden gem of that area. Safe sailing ⛵️
Yes I know of the app and we use it all the time but it’s not navigation software and should not be used as such
Awesome video
!W0W!

I'm envious of the life you're living.
🔥🔥
What was she rinsing off again? 😂
👍👍👍👍❤
I like to use SASplanet to create navionics charts and paste them into openCPN on my phone. Pretty much have an entire world chart with various levels of zoom as backup.
Wow
I'm very glad that I'm subscribed to your channel. Your videos are always interesting, informative and professionally made.💪🏘⛏
Achingly beautiful.
anti yacht club yacht club member. been following since the beginning!
Do you have an inner forestay for a staysail/storm jib with runners, or do you just sail it as a Sloop?
Yes
I bet you could land a bush plane on that sandbar
No garbage!!
Hey James, I have a silly question
About how much have you spent in Tats, I think they’re awesome. They look good and Rhonda’s too. I was just curious. I like the goat on the right knee.
Probably 80% of my tattoos were bartered for, for instance I built and maintained Kat Von Ds website before she was famous and after she was still on TV. I have also helped tattooers buy packing and arranging shipping of their paintings for international exhibitions and more. I also happen to be close friends with some of the best tattooers in the world, so that helps on the cost when I do pay for tattoos, so to answer you question….. far far less than I have spent on Triteia
🩵🩵⛵️💙💙
How deep at full tide?
I'm curious, when you say "you can't trust any of the Navionics charts here" do they ever reach out to you? I mean, people rely on those things and it seems to me like they have a certain liability implied in their product. I don't I don't understand how they can be off given the technology available.
Navionics (Garmin) don’t do sea surveys , they make charts based on sea surveys. In countries like Indonesia who are developing nations there is no fund for or real need to survey every meter of coastline. And in places with coral it’s important to remember that coral is rock that grows. Many charts used are based originally on original charts from the 1700s and have just been updated.
@@SailorJames yes but we literally have the technology to plot every square inch if not finer resolution of the entire globe and it just seems like a lot of people complaining about Navionics. I do not like the product at all. If it wasn't for all the people using drones and sharing plotted positions it'd be a lot more hectic out there! Anyway, party on James!
Don’t use atm machines in Indonesia ya get robbed
I have used ATMs in Indo for 5 months with zero issues
@ the got my daughters boyfriend for 3k and tried to get 5k from her but bank blocked hers last month when they was there
