Hellooooo Amber!👋. GREAT to see your video/vlog today ...and so sorry for your struggles😕. You've become quite the 'mechanic' ...and your experience dealing with that diesel heater, merits a 'WIN'!👍🤗. I'm SUPER happy that all is well, now ...and give you much 'props' for your continued endurance. With all the craziness in the world, it's so good to hear about people like Vernon. It restored my belief in humanity a little. Also....SUPER HAPPY you have heat Amber. Way too cold in an Alberta winter to be without. Certainly a lot different than BC. Loved your vlog and watching you makes me believe that I can do vanlife (eventually) as a solo woman as well.
Nice trouble shooting and install of the new diesel heater. Matt is great to have near by just incase you need guidance with anything. Thank you for giving confidence to people that may not be handy. You rock Amber! Thanks for sharing.
Well done Amber you make a great Diesel heater mechanic 👍 I keep an old North face down jacket I got from a thrift store stuffed under my drivers seat for working on the van, keeps my good clothes klean 😁
🎉🎉🙌🙌🎉🎉 Yay u got heat fantastic 👏 Way to go Vernon for providing Amber with her new heater, u rock. Way to go Amber for ur trouble shooting skills, even if it the stupid heater didn’t work 😤 u did a great job of trying to figure it out, u rock too 👍👌 I really enjoy watching ur videos, keep up the good work, take care & stay warm xx
I use to feel a little bad that Matthew would make you do all or most of your repairs while he helicoptered and loaned you tools. But NOW it has extremely paid off because you are becoming quite the Mr fix it. Good for you. ❤
Wow !! Vernon...you are the man!! Thanks for sharing some more vids!! Check the flow rate of the pumps...see if they are the same...wouldn't want to over fuel and crud up the new heater!!
Grab a bottle of Dawn dish soap best degreaser in a big bowl that you can throw out afterward add some soap and cold water submerged that corner / Stain leave it overnight 8 hours or more then wash it if you can't wash the entire jacket wash it by hand that corner with warm water laundry soap let it sit in laundry soap water 20 minutes then rinse. Hope this helps I've done it a few times. Great video Much love 🤗 🤗
@@joellepatry493 yes extremely dangerous, that's why you must do as I said washing it with a good degreaser soaking for a minium of 8 hours, rinsing it, then washing it with laundry detergent
Yay! No Frozen Coffee Vanlife! Vernon you rock! & So do you Amber! Taking that heater apart like that to clean it would make me so nervous, but you were an pro!
I hope you are able to resolve your heating issues so you can be comfortable this winter. I enjoy your content because I would rather have quality instead of quantity. You are a natural. Just be yourself, and your channel will grow. ❤❤❤
Happy to hear you have heat again. There is a small hole where the atomizer screen is that you have to clean out, It gets the carboned up which won't let oxygen get in for a complete burn. White smoke is unburnt fuel. You can test the glow plug with 12 volts. Danger danger. I'm glad that Matt is there help. You have plenty of parts to play with now. Did your new starter battery fix the nasty sounding starter issue? Best wishes and safe travels. A golf tee is a great temporary plug for the fuel line.
Can relate to this. New to me RV deserves a new diesel heater, right? Well this new diesel heater (I use an *all in one*) has now gone through 2 fuel pumps in 3 weeks. Good thing I had ordered 2 fuel pumps when the first one quit. This morning during warm up, the second fuel pump died so good thing I had a spare, it is supposed to be -21 tonight. Fortunately, unlike most van dwellers I do have a working propane furnace so a failed heater is not life threatening, but propane furnaces are very power and propane hungry, about 5X less efficient than a diesel heater. I am returning this NEW failed pump for a replacement, and ordering 2 more for backup. Cheers to Vernon for sending you a new heater, and Matthew for helping whenever needed. This is a fun and rewarding, but also very dangerous lifestyle (especially in Canadian winter), we all gotta help where we can.
As someone else noted, there is a small hole on the side where you glow plug goes in. If it is plugged (and I bet it is) clean it out, and you will have a working backup heater.
@@happycoffeevanlife Well dang, beats me then, maybe a computer fail. They are pretty simple, not too much can go wrong. The smoke says your glow plug is working, but obviously no ignition
Hi Amber! Lovely seeing a video from you! 💞 How generous of Vernon?!! You are going to be nice and cozy this winter! 🙌 I read, and you likely have as well, that there are many options to get the diesel out of your vest. Hopefully, something worked. 🙏
Hi Angela 😊 yes Vernon is a true saint 🙏 he has supported a lot of us vanlifers out here. And yeah the diesel smell has vanished I think…unless I just got used to the smell. It was a bad idea to even wear that vest in the first place because its heated and harder to wash haha Hope you’re doing well! And staying warm!
Amber, you and Vernon make a great TEAM! I hope your repairs last a long, long time! I really look forward to your videos. Thanks for keeping us in the loop on your projects. Thursday is our Thanksgiving in US. You have a great day, weekend, holiday. ❤
From afar Amber, I would say the heater was not getting enough air for combustion. Also if I were you, I would add another fuel filter and keep diesel additive in that fuel tank. If you have dirty fuel, over time you will end up with the same problem. If there is a problem with fuel-air mixture, then there has to be an adjustment screw somewhere on the unit. Also, there must be a fuel filter in that fuel system. It could have been in need or replacing.
I was hoping you'd put up another video and get the heat issue figured out. Vernon is such a peach for helping as is Matthew. Please wear safety glasses while under the van doing repairs. Do you have a pair?
Well, I'm just as bad as you, probably worse when comes to messing up my clothes working on things..... So happy to see you staying warm. Love the way you just jump in there and fix your equipment.... Thanks for the video, love them....
What happens to a lot of these heaters is if you are using lead batteries and you let the voltage get to low the motor doesn't spin fast enough and it kills the motor. As the motor doesn't spin fast enough to properly burn the diesel. That's were lifepo4 batteries are great.
It is nice to be watching a female videos. There are alot of male van life out there but watching a female living van life is very refreshing. It proves that females can live comfortably van life. It also helps to have a great van life community working together is essential. Glad you are showing females that it is possible to live van life comfortably . Thankyou thankyou
So happy for you! I've always wondered if these could be getting clogged on the inside of that atomizer screen where you can't really see. Guess I'll eventually get to see for myself since I just picked up one of these as well.
This whole struggle makes me glad that I live in a place where the average lows are not much below 30°F. There might be a few days in a year with nights between 0°F and freezing....
Great job - a lot of work but hopefully you’ll be good for heat now. If the new heater came with the exhaust and inlet pipes then I would swap out the filter that goes on the end of the inlet pipe for the new one. As white smoke seems to be associated with air/fuel mixture issues and that inlet filter lives under the van and probably gets filthy I can’t help but think that would affect the mix and make it run rich with not enough air coming through the filter due to the dust/dirt etc. Maybe rotate them periodically if you have two now - assuming you can clean them. 👍🏻

You should be able to clean the vest but read the instructions and if they didn't give you any or nothing on the vest then look up the company online that makes the vest or just call the street that sells them but you can definitely clean them. I knew electric blankets are a little tricky though so just do some research.
That was very kind of you Vernon. We need more kind humans like you in this world. Hoping this will keep you warm Amber for many winters to come.
