      Hi,
Can I ask if you know weather or not I have I burnt my bridges to the dream world with what I can only imagine as being a mistake I've made while lucid dreaming, and weather there is anything I can do to fix any damage I may have caused?
I used to have lucid dreams very rarely, I've had about three and I cant seem to initiate them consciously.
Recently however upon noticing I was in a dream I decided to look in a mirror. What looked back at me was absolutely horrifying, as I was struck with what felt to me as being very real existential dread. The creature I appeared to be had dark pools of burning flame for eyes and a jagged hole with burning black flames for a mouth. The visage from within the mirror then began to scream while pointing at me.
This unsettling scene of cause caused me to wake instant and I haven't remembered a dream nor woke up to lucidity within a dream since.
I am incredibly interested in the nature of the universe and I think I have exhausted all other avenues of being able to answer the questions I have in the 'real' world and would like to continue to ask questions in the dream world.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This morning I had a "false awakening" dream where another person told me that if I went back to sleep then, I'd have an excellent chance of getting lucid in a dream. I then "tried to do so", and thought I had fallen back to sleep, but was still just looking around at the surrounding scene of the interior of my home (which was of course a sleeping dream itself... and in retrospect included aspects of my childhood home), and waiting for dream imagery to manifest. I was getting frustrated that I was still "seeing the waking world", and wondering why a dream scene "was not forming". I then woke up for real, and had to facepalm and laugh at myself. Oh well, at least my mind was still kicking around notions about lucid dreaming. Still a good sign that it is continuing to take root.

i had a Too Personal nightmare (or bad dream, because i wasnt realy waking up from it in sweat, but it was a painfull dream) but also in the dream there was like Zero Hope. it was like i was failing at everything. one thing i can say thats less personal stuff is that in many of my dreams i always am the only one surviving a Tsunami. but in this bad dream (or nightmare?!) i was drowning like the others and was so mad about myself when i woke up. i survived under the water because i stole a divers breathing gear but then he drowned and i felt dissapointed with myself but this was my Dream Me trying to survive in the weirdest way possible. then i woke up and when i woke up i hated that i dreamed about NOT surviving the Tsunami. makes me think that something in my life is falling apart and failing in most aspects of waking life and gets interprated this in the Tsunami the first i drowned in. its scary. also, a wasted opportunity for myself to net get lucid in either that Personal dream scenario as also that Tsunami problem.
my last Lucid dream was a month ago and i did some cool space and flying stuff and even manifested dreamlings. whilst it was fun i think next Lucid Dream goal is to stay in the dream and not change much, and just feel the environment and try to get it into my memory for future story writing or drawing. stay Lucid

@@peterdavis7275 No, I wasn't lucid dreaming. I was dreaming that I had awakened and then gone back to bed, hoping to enter a dream lucidly, but was “frustrated that a dream scene was not forming”, all the while I was actually already in a dream and *didn't* realize it. I have had several lucid dreams over the years, dreams where I was fully aware that what I was experiencing was a dream generated by my sleeping brain, - that I was actually asleep in bed. Just recently in fact, I had one where I even smelled machine oil in a workshop with a lathe and other big machines… but I knew all of that was a dreamt illusion.
I am unconvinced of OBEs being a real thing; I don’t see any good reason to think, for example, in the false awakening dream I recounted, that my consciousness had actually left my body and was traveling around my actual physical home overlaid with dreamt-up alterations, or some alternate version of it, or whatever. Occam’s Razor leads me to conclude the most likely fact is that what I was experiencing was a dream, where I had mistaken it for reality, while hoping for a dream to form. It was a type of what Daniel has called (in at least one of his videos) a “fake lucid dream”… or a dream about lucid dreaming.
I have, on rare occasions, partially awakened, with dream imagery still happening briefly, overlaid on my sensory perception like “augmented reality”. For example I remember sitting up in bed once as a kid, and my hair brushed against the headboard, making a sound I thought, in my groggy state, sounded like insects buzzing, so when I turned around, the expectation had me see a ball of insects and spiderwebs there for a second… but then it faded away and I realized it was just a bit of leftover dream imagery. Not at all like the experience I had recently, which I realized had all been a dream once I actually woke up and was thinking clearly.

@@peterdavis7275 I don’t know what happened to my long reply to this, but *I’m* not seeing it now, so I will do the short version: No, I was not lucid dreaming in that one, because I was not clear-minded on what was happening. I had a confused mindset where I thought I was waiting for a dream to form, when I was already in one. When I woke up, I immediately realized that I had not been thinking logically, but was affected by “dream potato brain”. It was one of those “fake lucid dreams” or “dreams about lucid dreaming” that Daniel mentioned in at least one of his past videos. I’ve had actual lucid dreams- dreams wherein I was fully aware it was a dream, and was thinking clearly/logically. This wasn’t it.

Daniel, I started taking an anti-depressant and it has a very interesting side affect. Very long and vivid dreams. Last night, I had the most vivid dream that I ever had. I honestly think that this is the brain trying to get out of the depressed state of mind cause I haven't had dreams like this since I was a kid. I literally woke up in awe. Being depressed affects your dreams in a big way.

Then just as I was thinking to myself how lovely it was and that I had made a good decision to go out for a walk I remembered that I had in fact opted for an afternoon nap. As this realisation hit me I felt my whole being flip from the vertical to the horizontal then I opened my eyes to find myself lying on my bed.

I think there’s a lot more variation in how different people perceive reality than many think. I remember having vivid existential crises as a small child (maybe 7 years old) due to this reality not feeling real and trying to ascertain where I was before being born. As a child, I had many quite original ideas about things and I’d ask adults and they’d never know what I was going on about. I learned at a young age that the various systems in place didn’t make room for me and didn’t accept me as I was, so I was operating separately from much of society very early on. Thinking and learning completely independently much of the time.
What I used to see as ostracizing, I now see as protection because I learned early on that people tend to be disingenuous and dishonest, even if they think they’re not. I saw the illusions very early on.
For me, learning to trust my own intuition over society’s ideas was key, as my intuition (even as a small child) was very accurate. Original ideas in many cases.
Now in my 40s, I am comfortable with living in a subjective reality and figuring out my own life through original thinking and not worrying about society’s ideas about stuff.
I know I’ll never have an objective view of things and I know that’s the point. We live in two entirely separate dimensions at once, the shared illusion and our own personal realm. That’s highly subjective.
But there are indeed many who do have a lot of original ideas from within. And while I’ve had lucid dreams, they aren’t often. I’ve always tried to be brutally honest with myself and seeking whatever truth I can find, fully knowing that it’s still a subjective viewpoint. But that doesn’t necessarily translate to lucid dreaming for all of us.
For me, remembering that it’s an illusion and only my perspective is very comforting.

I think this is why human beings, on the whole, have such a fascination for stories, films, theatre, pantomime etc we are acting out a kind of "story" ourselves. I do have lucid dreams sometimes and it seems obvious then that there is just awareness going on, no sense of an individual "me".

Thank you for the great video! I've been meditating on the nature of lucid dreaming for a couple of days and the questions you posed helped me get across to a new state of understanding. I think the answer to the question "Who is lucid?" is that it is the same part in myself who becomes conscious of the illusion of the material world, or the "material dream". So it is not my ego, but something much deeper and profound. That inner being in me is intertwined with an all-encompassing existence that permeates everything. So if I consciously strive to live through that inner being, then lucid dreams become just another "world of existence".

Interesting Daniel. I'll certainly follow more of your work. I started lucid dreaming quite naturally when I was about 7 years old and used to summon these things up just by telling myself to 'wake up' while dreaming. Later in life, I got a book about lucid dreaming and read about the light switch experiment and during such a dream, I operated a light switch so that I could observe the delay in the lights switching on and off. I loved the idea of performing an experiment from within a dream. These days I guess I can't be bothered but this morning I had a section of a lucid dream where I was in a place full of people and I just took a moment to observe the faces of the people there and remarked to myself that all of these people are being 'rendered' in real-time in great detail. I'm interested in the simulation hypothesis and my confirmation bias tells me that quite clearly, a world can be created, no matter how bizarre, without sensory input that we just passively accept when not lucid dreaming.

I think in the internal world your self remains a constant. If in a dream I am watching myself in a third person pov then I’m the witness, I think our vision of the self for very good reasons to be highly relatable, so we inadvertently empathize with it so deeply we believe it to be the self.

Implicitly, for awhile we wanted to say YES this is a dream! In waking life, but, it's a different dream from the sleeping dream. So then how are they different? Is of the real questions.

I have always been an active dreamer. It's a gift imo. However I never heard of intentionally having a lucid dream. So two nights ago I watched your video on how you've been doing it for over 40 years. I recognized that I could do what you said, which was to catch yourself just as you start going into the dream state. I am generally always conscious of when i loose control of my thoughts and random things just start popping up.
First night, nothing special. The second night, I watched this video and tried to do it again. My plan was to steal some of your ideas like flying or going to space. I have never done that in a dream. So I intended to fly and soon I'm in a very happy dream. I was with my wife and some musical little kids in what reminded me of a beautiful French chateau and we were all having a great time trying to do musical impressions and other music related things when we noticed the sun went dark for a few seconds. We all went outside next to a little pond looking up, and the sun just glitched out. It was basically the end of the universe. Gravity started doing weird things and I was paralized in a fetal position as everything went dark. I could hear one of the children who was nearby who was also experiencing the same terror. So here is the best part. As we lay there basically dying from a stellar flame out and gravitational randomness, I tried to console the child by saying "control the dream control the dream." As I was saying that into the darkness I felt myself start to float uncontrollably toward where the lake had been and knew I couldn't move and I was going to drown. Just then I woke up uttering "control the dream."
So I was basically trying to remind myself to take control of the dream while I was already basically flying which was my original intention!
Awake, I felt like I failed a test and passed one at the same time and I'm left with this feeling that I'm on the right track!

I always refer to it as a hologram, a 3D projection if you will of an inner personalised reality.
The pineal gland secretes serotonin to produce a hologram which operates based off our real time sensory inputs.
When we sleep, it secretes melatonin which creates a dream state.
DMT is the underlying molecule which switches between melatonin/serotonin - The Spirit molecule.
Thats why shamans have used plants that contain DMT since the beginning - Especially with people who have traumatic experiences stored in memory.
It results alteration of perception and access to deeper memory storages, allowing the realisation of a new broader narrative.

Watching this video again - about all these apparently different selves - reminds me of a little Zen tale - about a king who starts to have very realistic dreams about other lives, all of which seem equally real and he doesn't know which one is the real one so he sends for a Sage to ask him, how can he tell which life is the real one. The Sage tells him - to find out what is the one thing that is common to all of them.

So it was lucid in a way but lately when I notice it being a dream I don't do anything with the information. I've never really tried to have lucid dreams but I get them naturally every now and then.
As soon as I realize I'm dreaming, the magic is gone. The dream stops progressing and I become stuck in that location or "scene". There's nothing I can do and nowhere I can go. I can look around and that's about it.
I much prefer non-lucid dreams. In those, anything can happen: I can do anything, be anything and go anywhere. And it feels more vivid because I believe it to be real.

5 things have remained consistent in all of my lucid dreams:
      1. I'm always alone.
      2. I can move around freely and interact with my surroundings like I normally would, but I can't leave the current scenario.
      3. I can only do things I can do in real life.
      4. I can't give control back to my subconscious even of I try.
      5. I can move my real body to some extent. (If I move too suddenly, I wake up.)
Maybe this is just how lucid dreams manifest for me. It can't work the same way for everyone, right?

Great video! RE "illusion": Vedanta (one of the six major schools of Hinduism) uses the concept "dependent reality" rather than "illusion". Common example is that the pot's reality is *dependent* on the clay, yet the pot still has a practical functionality at our everyday level of reality which we wouldn't call an illusion. Having been in non-duality teachings many years ago, the word "illusion" can certainly be subject to misuse/abuse if not fully understood...eg people acting like d!ck$ because it's "all an illusion" or not caring about what happens in life because "it's all an illusion" etc. [Comment is not a criticism, but a continuation of the discussion].

I once lived in a flat where something about the environment made me have lucid dreams every night for several months, I think my sleep quality was affected (maybe by high levels of EMFs from several close phone masts and a close transformer station - but that's just a hypothesis) and that a lighter kind of sleep caused the lucid dreaming. To be honest it soon became very boring. Being "lucid" in the sense that I knew I was dreaming, I would manipulate my dreams in a way that made me succeed or be liked or admired or (most often) loved the way I wanted - so in many mays they resembled more vivid daydreams, but since I knew it wasn't real, it wasn't all that exciting. It also made me feel shallow, because making my dreams into boring daydreams about being loved or succeeding was the only thing I would ever do.
I find this video very interesting,, but for me lucid dreaming didn't really change anything.
Also I have a brain that sometimes hallucinates - probably because the part of the brain that usually interprets visual sensory input, sometimes struggles with doing its job (and the brain then makes wild guesses or weird suggestions about the world I see), so I know very well how much of our experiences are interpretations and that they can't be blindly trusted. But even this doesn't make me especially wise or awakened. I still have no clue what all this we call life is about or if there is a reason I am here. And even though I know pain is an interpretation made by (different parts of) the brain or the mind, I don't handle it well at all, and I am still ridiculously afraid of suffering. It might be an illusion, but it feels so real (much more than the lucid dreams).

  • @jamesstaggs4160
    @jamesstaggs4160 3 месяца назад

Had my first lucid dream when I was 7. I also had night terrors during my childhood and I think my mind was looking for a way to exit them, which is exactly the purpose I used lucid dreaming for. If I found myself in a night terror or just a garden variety nightmare when I realized I was asleep I'd find a building to jump from or did something like running into a wall as hard as I could. It wasn't until I was a teenager that I realized I had some control over the dreamscape.
By the time I hit my early twenties I was lucid dreaming every single night. I nearly always just flew around. The feeling of being liberated from gravity's grasp is incredible. During a lucid dream I saw a star which came to fall at my feet and when it landed I saw what I can only describe as a gnome, specifically a garden gnome. He was around a foot tall, had a red pointed hat, long white beard and a blue suit. He said to me "You're not supposed to be doing this". After that night the lucid dreams pretty much stopped. Since then I'll have a handful every year but I don't have any control over them. I'll either immediately wake up or the lucidity will quickly slip away.
I'm not sure how well that comment slots into the topic of the video other than to say don't count on your ability to see through Illusions as some permanent, static ability. I don't know if that gnome was a part of mind taking my ability away or if there's something that monitors the dream world and polices it for whatever reason, all I know is one day I could enter a dream and manipulate it Inception style and the next day I couldn't. I am upset with that gnome though so if anybody sees the little bastard try to find out where he lives because I have some words for him.

    • @scarbo2229
      @scarbo2229 3 месяца назад

@@jamesstaggs4160 Very interesting, and your history is very similar to mine. I never saw a gnome that told me this, but I gradually came to the conclusion that the sleep state and dream life has a subconscious purpose that is more important than all the fun I was having in my lucid dreams. Now I have fewer lucid dreams, but I’m more trusting of my life purpose. Not sure this is what you want to hear, it’s interesting to compare notes, and it could be that your gnome represented a part of yourself that sensed you were becoming self indulgent. Just a thought.

The way I think of the difference between reality and interpretations through the senses is the difference between the mind and the soul in which the soul is the dream self of Universal Mind that I see as Source Consciousness. I view that the self is the same in waking and dreaming state even if the true self is no self that may be the reason for the existence of Moksha even with the existence of the soul since perception is the essence of existence in which there is nothing underneath qualia even if perception could exist beyond the brain. I view the soul as analogous for what is eternal and the consistent perceiver from dream to dream and antarayama that is analogous to what it's like between lives in the waking state. The answer to your question is in your description: "Then I heard the noise of a text message and woke up instantly." If you wake up from an experience, then it was a dream. "Out-of-body experiences" are a common misinterpretation of vivid dreams, but from a scientific perspective, they are simply dreams or altered states of consciousness.
Or in other words, there's no scientific evidence of OBEs as genuine experiences of leaving the body, they are classified as dreams or hallucinations.
