if you dont have enough movement between the different clippings your computer will edit out the I-frame. Make sure to use two different videos between each cut.
So anyone asking about 2.7.4 which is the latest version, if you use mpeg4 AVC (x264) and press configure, you should find the frames tab on top like you would in the old version as Novak shows in his tutorial, and you'll see the I-frame options at the bottom, that's all I know as of now, the setting are still different so I don't know how to use them or what they do.

You want to go down to the GOP size and set Maximum to 999999 as shown in the video. The carry on following the tutorial like normal and this will work. I only had problem because i could not download 2.5.4 on my mac and only the newest version downloaded.

@@BirdlessFlight randomly stumbled upon this while referencing this video - as you delete frames, the video gets shorter. I'm not sure it's perfect math - but (for example) if you delete 3 I frames, your result will be 3 frames shorter than the original. I usually add 1 frame to the clips I'm going to delete an I frame from - this slightly desyncs it before you export (that's easy to undo if you need), and then the final result (usually) lines up pretty close to the original export! so sad that I can't easily get it working on my mac -_- any usable version of avidemux on newer macs doesn't have xvid so you can't change the maximum I-frame interval... one can still mosh, but I-frame deletion is stuttery. B-Frame duplication still works tho

Everything worked for me but im having trouble converting the avi file to an mp4 :/ ill update my comment if i find a solution VLC converter worked for me. Clicked mp4 in both areas next to Profile. Now i just need to glitch up the audio with some databending or something. thanks for the tutorial !
make sure you open an h264. that helped me. Further research when i had the same issue also suggests disabling openGL in preferences before importing a video!

I've previously done this successfully however, I no longer have i frames to select between and therefore the effect isn't working
