  • "A Connecticut gun lobbying group on Wednesday personally attacked the father of a Sandy Hook school massacre victim, accusing him of "profitting off of the tragedy" and saying a decade-old drug arrest makes him a "poster boy" for background check ineffectiveness." Cenk Uygur ( / cenkuygur ) discusses the attack by Sean Hannity and other gun advocates on Neil Heslin.

I'm a gun owner and I'm disappointing and angered that anybody would attack that father. He went through the most horrific and tragic thing that any person could go through. He is fighting for what he believes in, which is his right as an American. Connecticut Carry you are a bunch of disrespectful pieces of shit. You should be ashamed of yourself. I'm sorry to suggest this, i can expect some hate from this, but let's just be a little more rational here.
People shouldn't be able to carry firearms outside of their houses, and even inside their own homes, these weapons shouldn't be anything more than a pistol or a revolver.
Why the fuck do people want assault rifles or smgs in their fucking homes? That shit is dangerous as all hell and usually has a 30 mag round capacity.
A capacity to kill 30 people all in one gun!
I understand if you want a sidearm to protect yourself, and keep your home safe, so why not relinquish some "gun rights" in exchange for better security?
Make it so EVERYONE can only possess a very limited amount of guns so that the police forces can never fear the fact that the guys behind a door might be packing more than the goddamn police!

+KRIMZONMEKANISM If the police have them the citizens can have them.... because the police don't rule, they don't have more rights because they dress in fancy dress and take on a role....I don't like guns, i wish they didn't exist, but they do....and if they're in the hands of authority under authority under authority the amount of accountability degrades quickly. i'm sure the police have automatic weapons...i'm sure they walk around with them, i'm sure they use them alot...so why are we not calling for the disarming of everybody? because safety isn't what this is about, it's about control.

Gun control harms more than it helps. Knowing that a burglar could break into my house anytime, it's very nice to have the security of an Ar15 if he comes in with a rifle or shotgun and tries to kill me. Sorry, your dead children shouldn't compromise my safety. I know it sounds cold but I have to think of MY KIDS.

If the more guns you have, the more murder you have, why isn't everyone in America dead by now? How can the population continue to grow?
The US ranks #1 in private gun ownership. The rate of private gun ownership in the United States is 101.05 firearms per 100 people(Gun policy org) or 88.8 (Wikipedia, 2007).That's insane compared to any other country, yet the murder rate is only 4.8.

My cab driver friend, an NRA competitive shooter, was robbed. Four guys took a ride and when it was time to pay their fare, they pulled a gun instead. They got the drop on him and he was unable to draw and shoot. Asked why he did not pursue and shoot at them. He said, I got away cheap - the price of a fare. It wasn't worth going after and shooting them. he was an intelligent gun owner. He showed more courage than the Connecticut Carry group with this smear.

Given the choice between 'now' or 'never', it's not a particularly tough choice for gun owners or prospective gun owners.

To suggest his sons murder "doesn't count" or his grief "doesn't matter" due to legal issues is sick. If true, then when you get pulled over and issued a traffic ticket, someone can kill your child. NO! Your child is just as precious as Neil's son. To suggest otherwise is sick, twisted and 100% un-American. It puts you in the same camp as Westboro Baptist Church.

What you don't get is that at least half of the democide in the US happens between relatives and aquaintances or work related. You know, citizens without criminal record just freaking out in a domestic situation in a fight, out of jealousy, because of money etc.
And in the US the killing is made so easy and effective because anyone can get guns everywhere, easy to avoid any checks, no registry, no confiscation of guns from criminals, no proper mandatory gun safety at home, guns in public.

I'm Lithuanian. High unemployment and alcoholism are the main factors. It's unfair to continue to paint Lithuania as an ex-Soviet state. The country regained independence 23 years ago. We're, unfortunately, members of both the EU and NATO, the UN lists Lithuania as a country with high human development index.
Poverty is rampant in the US too, as Cornel West and Tavis Smiley point out. One would expect the murder rate in US to be at least 10 times as high than it is. Why is it so low?

    1. Many people define it as an assault weapons because the actual definition includes semi-automatics.
    2. And that still equals around 11k gun homicides a year, which is FAR more than most other countries. I understand why you want to try to minimize it in any way possible but it doesn't change the fact that it is still a problem. 11,000 people murdered by guns isn't exactly insignificant. And 17k average for overall murders is a problem as well.

    2. Whether anybody is disturbed or not is not known unless they actually visit a doctor.
    3. Doctor has responsibility to the patient not to release such information to anybody and gov't would have to issue court order, and this cannot be done without probable cause. Unless buying a gun in your mind is now a 'probable cause', gov't cannot find out if the woman is disturbed EVEN if she visited a doctor.

    There are no women rights.
    There are no worker rights.
    There are no minority rights.
    There are no children rights.
    etc.
There are ONLY individual rights. Individuals have the rights and government has authority. Gov't has authority that is GRANTED to it by the Constitution.
The Constitution DOES NOT grant authority to the government to limit individual rights in any way related to guns.

just to take your point even further, the constitution was written when the US army didn't have tanks, planes, aircraft carriers, long range missiles and a host of other advanced weapons. in other words it was written at a time when armed citizens could actual fight against a corrupted government and stand a chance. If some armed group was to even attempt a violent revolution they would get utterly destroyed, so in no way does owning a gun protect you from a corrupt government.
