he's not light on his feet. in fact that's his primary weakness. another is not getting to the ball in time. his footwork to position himself around the ball is fantastic though.
Stan is one of my favourite. Appreciate being able to hear the dialogues between the player and the coach discussing about the struggles & ways to overcome them.
Amazing format for these clips ATP Tour channel! Keep em coming! Great insight on what coaching tips the pros get...remarkably simple, concise and actually emphasising fundamentals
The coach's last piece of advice, about trying to do more with his opponent's second serve, is so important for Stan! Despite having some of the fiercest groundstrokes in the game, he has always just blocked back a lot of serves to get the point started, but he's 36 now and the top 20 has a lot of young guys now, and that's no longer such a great play for him. Credit to the coach for knowing that.
Also he got knocked out by corona really badly before the season started and had to stay in bed for two weeks straight, loosing all his conditioning. He was completely out of shape when he arrived in Australia. A shame really, since Pierre Paganini told the swiss press that he thought that Wawrinka was at his best conditioning wise before he catched corona.
Everyone? This was just a hitting session, the real test will be when he wins matches, anyone can practice hard, and get advice, but what they do with it, in pressure moments, is another thing.
No way! Tennis is awesome in that the player needs to solve problems on their own during a match. The mental part is what separate the top players from the rest.
Stan is a very good player He still need to improve his return especially stop slicing too much for his opponent to attack And stop going too big for his shot sometimes ( too many unforced errors) Hit shot with precision and depth is more crucial nowadays
yeah, it's so easy to force him to hit a slice when serving to his backhand side. costs him a lot, as he's too predictable and doesn't have the variation 2 handers do with return.
I get the impression that blocking his returns back was a conscious decision. If you watch his matches from earlier in his career, he took a full swing at every return and made a lot of errors. I think he and his coach at the time decided that (since there were few serve and volleyers left) he could get away with just blocking the return back and then taking full swings on his groundstrokes. It was all about increasing the percentages.
Stan has better chance than Murray of winning another Grand Slam, I'll give him that- still slim though, unless he can keep his level up after beating Djokovic.
'who can hit a lob these days' umm, Rublev, Medvedev, Bublik..basically all the Russians. then Nishikori, Murray (lol), Djoko and a lot of the shorter players hit great lobs
Not consistently though. Lot of modern players have bad feel and touch for the game. They all have solid groundies but lack variety. Also Murray, Novak, and Nishikori are really the only ones who hit lobs consistently in. Rest of the field not so much
this is cool content but man, valverdu's input just seems so frickin useless...like stan knows or can figure all this out on his own. seems like a lot of words and a lot of confusion
Yeah definitely nothing special. Probably the case for a lot of the guys around this level. Seems like in a lot of cases they're not really working on anything in particular.
Stan knows how to play tennis so all Danny needs to do is implement ideas during a point of of stan was doing wrong as sStan cannot look at himself. And who knows what was cut out on the editing floor due to sensitivity so stop being a hater
I like Stan a lot. He needs to be in the top 10 again. The sports needs him.
He is v. good. what however he needs to do is loose a little weight.

Stan's footwork is so Underrated. He is very light on his feet for such a powerfully built man.

Nice content, more of tthis is always welcome!
one of the most ferocious ground strokes the world of tennis has ever seen
Absolutely. It looks and sounds unreal. Heaviest BH on tour
also so damn balanced and controlled. Favourite groundies on tour.
Amazing job by Stan and his coach, Valverdú.
1:58; that shortened backswing on that return of serve, was incredible!!!
Stan is a beast! We need him back in the top 10 and challenging for majors again
I still feel (and hope) he’s gonna make a deep run on clay/at RG this year
Nowadays in grand slams, isnt so much about whos better but who gets injured and who doesnt
He can do it anywhere

LOVE this, amazing insight on the way the Pro´s practice during tournaments.
It's incredible how he has the same doubts about going forward in the net and being lobbed as any amateur!
you see a Grandslam winner discussing simple tennis tips that we hear everyday as recreational players
Excellent peek into the training mindset!

Great stuff!
so beautiful. I love this sport

Why is Mauricio Pochettino coaching Wawrinka?

Awesome!
I hope he figures out whatever is hindering his movement :(. He's half a step slow on the run today and it shows.

Who was he practising with? Dan evans?
Dan evans has a thing for the Swiss?
Or the swiss have a thing for Dan. How bout that ?!

@@dtv2031 what is so awesome about it exactly? I mean for spectators...
Mental collapse gives plenty of drama. And it's great to see mentally tough players like Nadal or Serena grinding it out even on a bad day.
Good coaching could turn it around equally well and push players to new limits of strategy and meta strategy...

He needs a new coach
He's not even mic'd.
Magnus Norman disliked this
he keeps losing tho
Unless it's Djokovic he's playing.
He needs to change his coach, he's been losing in too much tournaments on early rounds.
And how is that the fault of the coach?
I agree he needs a new coach
