I think there is is always a case to be made regarding technique, projection, etc.to the end of demonstrating that one singer is somehow "better" than another singer. But there is also a case to be made that some voices are more appealing to people than others for reasons that can not be easily identified or quantified. I love this woman's voice - it's rich, the vibrato is consistent, the pitch is spot-on, and the diction is impeccable. Brava brava brava!!!
Agnes Baltsa was amazing in this role! And I think Luciana is an exceptional singer. I have never seen or heard her in something that she didn't do exceptionally well!
E' una questione di abitudine uditiva e anche visiva, si è soliti sentire in questi ruoli mezzi con voci più piccole e delicate ed anche, diciamolo, fisicamente meno imponenti...a me non dispiacciono per nulla i vocioni che siano uomini o donne quindi pollice in su per la magnifica e bella Luciana. Poi lei, da vera artista, avrà sentito l'esigenza di un repertorio diverso e più drammatico dove peraltro è tra le migliori in assoluto.
A wonderful example of a coloratura contralto with full integration of low, middle, and upper voice. The only current singer that can do this as well is Stephanie Blythe (check out her Isabella). It is nice to her some "fuller voiced" mezzos as the potential heirs to Horn in this repertoire. I would like to hear d"Intino in some of the Handel roles and serious Rossini (Semiramide) that Horne made famous.
The production is rather badly directed. She's a dramatic mezzo, and not a natural-born comedienne at that (a la Bartoli, Kasarova, or Larmore), so she's definitely fighting an uphill battle. Well, the non-sync between the audio and video makes this look even sillier.
Isabella dovrebbe essere una "femmina" affascinante....chi l'ha conciata cosi? e lei si e' vista allo specchio prima di uscire sul palcoscenico di fronte al pubblico?
Grande voce.....anche troppo per Rossini forse.Questa parte non le permette di esprimere appieno le sue capacità vocali e trovandosi imprigionata in un ruolo a lei non ottimale il risultato purtroppo è mediocre...Molto meglio sentirla in altri ruoli adatti per la sua vocalità.

I think she's funny. She has a really nice tone, but she's trying to make her tone too dark.

There is no problem, if a dramatic mezzosoprano or contralto is singing Isabella! for exampel, Baltsa, Horne, D'Intino or Simionato!
