The only thing I can say about Finleap is that they atleast had him apologize at the end and admitted how he acted was wrong. I was really afraid they'd get back together without ever addressing his behavior. And I'm glad Twigbranch finally started being nicer to Flypaw. Their relationship was actually pretty cute towards the end of the book.
If Finleap totally changes, then I'd write it up as him being young and an absolute idiot and not knowing how manipulative he was being. The real relationship here was Twigbranch and Flypaws, tbh. I loved seeing Twigbranch learn how to teach someone who was so drastically different from her.
Characters are definitely more than allowed to make mistakes if they can grow from them. I liked these characters when they were young, and I'm glad they were able to learn and grow further rather than regress in characterization.
Tbh, Finleap isn't making a mistake so much just being a colossal dick. I'm only past the half way point in *Raging Storm* and he constantly guilt trips, bullies and manipulates Twigbranch into having kids with him even though she already told him she wasn't ready. Finleap literally says at one point that he'd only be happy if she had kits with him. At least for me, just because he merely apologizes doesn't erase all that. Plus, he got his way in the end.... hooray....
