  • This was filmed just after 2am on December 20, 2003 [on a crappy little camcorder] on the final night that this type of drive could've been made.
Later that morning (just a few hours later), 4 new lanes of I-93 South would open for the first time, under the city... aka - "the Big Dig".
This drive ends with me taking the old High Street / Congress Street exit.
As you'll notice from the film, there were plenty of lane closures & ongoing construction - which preceded the eventual deconstruction of the entire elevated highway. Earlier that year (March), the new northbound lanes of the big dig had opened. If memory serves, they were already in the process of destroying the old Northbound parts of the raised highway by the time this final Southbound drive was made.
Playing in the background was 1030am WBZ - where you can clearly hear a news segment devoted to what was about to happen the next morning...Four lanes of I-93 Southbound opening by 8am later that morning, December 20 2003. (The remaining two SB lanes opened in early 2005).
