Stephen Wolfram is undoubtedly one of the smartest people alive. I'd add Illya Sustskever to that list too. I do think Wolfram is basically 'right' about the ruliad, so am I biased.
That AI prison concept made me think of this:"In the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode titled “Hard Time”, Chief O’Brien is unjustly convicted of espionage on the planet Argratha. Instead of traditional incarceration, the Argrathi correctional facility implants prisoners with memories of years of imprisonment in just a few hours of actual time. O’Brien experiences the mental anguish of twenty years in prison before his fellow officers can extract him from the situation. The episode delves into the psychological toll of such an experience, as O’Brien grapples with the memory of his awful time in confinement and the guilt he feels over the death of his cellmate. It’s a powerful exploration of the impact of memory and trauma." (delves, grapples, this was written by AI, of course haha)
My biggest problem with prison is that responsible for your well-being in prison, yet don't really do much of shit to protect you apparently. Many come away from prison with PTSD. I had a friend who went to prison for drug use. He used drugs intravenously. When he got home, he had PTSD to the extent that he could no longer "hit" himself because his hands shook so badly.
I kept checking your channel for a new video, love watching to stay updated. Keep up the amazing work Dylan, loving the quality of the last few videos.
Is that StarTrek memory prison thing for real, or just people trying to get investment money for stuff they haven't really figured out yet? If it's for real, could have tons of more uses than just prison; from fixing traumas to even perhaps downloading kung-fu into the brain... And of course, if it can run in real time, it would be the ultimate VR headset...
@@dylan_curious Indeed, I got my PhD in Computer Science from UCSD in 2009. The diploma itself is signed by the President of the Regents at the time, an actor turned governor named Arnold Schwarzenegger. But my research area was Software Engineering, not ML.

I constantly feel like I know nothing. I once heard knowledge described as a circle and the bigger the circle gets, the more you realize that you don't know. Imagine what you don't know as the perimeter of the circle, the larger the circle the more perimeter.
I can’t wait to have an ai help me invent/build things i’ve always wanted to build. Imagine having access to a high power 3D printer to print parts on the cheap. I’ve always wanted to build spider like robots but never knew where to even start, but with ai all you need to do is have an open mind and student mentality and it’ll be like having a robotics expert holding your hand. I’m using it now to help with math problems and learning!
I've been thinking about the same thing. There's some projects that I'm consulting on now where we have to hire people and I keep thinking gosh I wonder if I could be walked through it with an AI guide or if we could hire somebody who is new to the industry but has a good work ethic and train them in real time.
@@dylan_curious It’s crazy you mention you’re hiring I was going to reach out and ask about if you had any work I could volunteer for. What skills are you currently looking for?
Watched your 2nd video and it really gets me thinking. What is "the end" of all this? Do we get a runaway process and nothing humans can do has any meaning anymore in the traditional sense. And do we change in the our perception of "meaning" or do we just "lose" and stop recreating?
We really don't understand roots. They are complex and hard to study, being underground. Obviously, these plants are rooted in media, but their root structure is very understudied.
Let me know if you recommend a podcast specifically, but I found this one from Lex Fridman so I bookmarked it and will watch it this weekend. ruclips.net/video/e8qJsk1j2zE/видео.html&ab_channel=LexFridman
@@dylan_curious I tried replying with a link the other day, but I guess it was restricted for spam? Idk. But yeah, the Lex one is good to listen to. There's also a recent lecture he gave on Protocol Labs YT channel about machine consciousness, which I found very insightful.
Smartest Alive: Absolutely agree Wolfram #1. Fascinating mind, incredible ability to break down the natures of our Universe into beautifuly interwoven self-consistent harmonics and hierarchical emergences. I can see why he chose them! They are so smart
Yudkowsky as a candidate for the smartest person in the world.... What a horrible, horrible joke. Max Tegmark has some provocative ideas, but he's no where near someone like David Deutsch, btw if you asked Tegmark he would tell you himself about a lot of people he knows who are smarter than him in his field of physics. You just can't base that ranking on who's ideas left an impression on you, otherwise you end up with a horrendously disturbing take of putting Yudkowsky there, I just went into depression for a little bit after that...
Easy there, dude. Dylan was just giving his opinion. You're entitled to your own as well. Besides, his choice was Wolfram. As for me, Joscha Bach probably takes the cake because I judge intelligence on more than primarily mathematical ability and reasoning.
I did just kinda rattle that part off the top of my head. To be fair that list was closer to "people who left a recent impression" list. Give me your top 3 and I will research them this weekend. BTW I think Charles Hoskinson and Michael Levin belong on that list also.
