On the silco deciding to help Powder....yes, he ends up genuinely helping her.
He was going to kill Powder until she hugged him, wanting comfort, and said that Vi left her alone, basically betrayed her.....and Silco saw himself in Powder. Because Vander and Silco were also adopted siblings....and Vander tried to drown him
That is why he hugged her back and promised they would pay for what they did to them. Heck you see him treating her like his own daughter.

The reason Silco goes to Marcus (corrupt cop's house) is because he failed to kill Vi and she is now out of prison. So Silco goes there to threaten him. Silco is consistently trying to get rid of and undermind Vi at any oppertunity. He truly was loyal and loved Jinx - but the love was twisted and unhealthy. Since Jinx was becoming unraveled- he only fed into her hatred.

I love that Arcane as a show does this. They just do what's best for the plot, not focusing on what the audience would want or what is best financially. Like, sometimes shows are like "Oh, we can't kill this character, because people like them, and if we kill them, the audience will not come back" or like "Is better if we wait a full season for this characters to reunite so we keep the hype up, and more people keep watching the show". Arcane is not like that. If they have to kill a character, they do it, because that's what the plot says; that is how things work. And they will reunite this two characters immediately if they get the chance, bc that's what this characters would actually do; that is how things work. Like, that is what would happen in the real world. And we know it's a fictional show, but at having this real life elements on it (like Dead don't discriminate if you're a protagonist or a secondary character, or if you find your sister after YEARS, of course the first thing you would do is go to her immediately) it really feels like you are watching something real, and that it's actually more engaging than waiting the whole series for the main characters to actually meet.
It was about time we get a show that cares about the plot and their characters, more than what it's best financially.

Silco saw Jinx as a reflection of himself. He wanted to give Jinx what he couldn't have, which is what most parents do, but he also wants her to become like him. If Jinx become like Powder, it proves that his philosophy is all wrong. Powder being abandon and becoming Jinx is proof that he too was just a product of the society and it's Piltover's fault for not caring about Zaun, and turn him into what he is. That's why Silco is so afraid of Vi coming back and changing Jinx. To Silco, Vi is his existential crisis.

He wasn't doing it for any noble reason. He was trying to get rid of Vi so he could have sole influence over Jinx. Silco was NOT a good person. His intentions were not "noble", and I wish people would stop trying to excuse his actions or try to see them in some kind of "But he was REALLY protecting her.." when he'd gaslit her and manipulated her PTSD towards his advantage for years. And then when she started to gain an independence away from his influence he would reinforce her PTSD to keep her from rebelling against him. That's why he kept lying to her about Vi's intentions.
Silco wanted to continue to be sole influence over Jinx, Vi stood in the way of that, so he tried to kill Vi. Simple as that.

    • @audreyn.9394
      @audreyn.9394 2 года назад +15

Not giving him any excuses, but this is why Silco is so well written. People find empathy for him, in some mysterious ways, they can relate to him, or at least explain the weird, noble and terrible things about him. Sure, the guy's toxic, and deeply twisted. What he has with Jink isn't just fatherly love, it also comes with manipulation, lies, deception. The ambition, the dream he has, colliding with the horrid, terrifying methods he uses, willing to do ANYTHING to achieve what he wants. Yet, over time, he found the one line he'll never cross: give up on Jinx, even if it means crushing his own dream. His character is so much wider than the simple manipulative-murderous-lying-trash psychopath.
Yes, he wants complete control over Jinx, trying to erase every bits of Powder that stayed within her, keeping a tremendous emotion influence. Only, in this scene, when Vi desperatly tries to make her remember their family, Jinx is having a litteral meltdown. She doesn't see her family as they were, but instead, dead talking corpses and monsters. It frightens her, we see her curl up, becoming smaller, and every name makes it more and more unbearable. I don't know if Vi realised, but Silco sure did. He raised her. He knew better than anyone, depise him being...well. Him. Shooting Vi, it's not only getting rid of her to ensure his grip on Jinx. He WANTS to get her out of this dark place. He loves her in his own, so very twisted, disturbed way.

At the end with the statue, Silco isn’t “lamenting over what he must do” he is actually saying he won’t give up Jinx to the top siders, that he loves Jinx too much to give her up for his dream, the Nation of Zaun, if you read between the lines:
It’s all said in the statue scene where he poors one out to his brother Vander. “Is there nothing as undoing as a daughter.” “It all makes sense now brother.” Meaning Silco has realized why Vander gave up the cause, that Jinx has undone his will to “do anything for power”. In the end he becomes like Vander, unwilling to give up his daughter for the cause.

Powder wasn't feeling bad because of what happened to Vander, but because she was abandoned. Which is why even when Vander died, she didn't cry as much - she never connected to him as Vi did. To her, after her parents died, the only family she has was Vi, which is why when Vi abandoned her after Powder accidentally killed everyone, Powder screams ''I need you. Why did you abandon me?''
She never asked 'where is Mylo?' or 'Vander' as she only seeked for Vi and her approval when she tried to help. She only regrets everything, and the spirits haunt her only because Vi told her that it's *her* fault because she's a *Jinx*. If Vi never said that, Powder would have thought they died because of smth else. Which is why she only feels the guilt because Vi was angry of her and left her because of it.
This might seem messed up, but Powder, as someone who lost her parents at a very young age, glues herself to the only one left, Vi. She gets very attached to Vi specifically, and not the others, and not even Vander. (Note: you can see that Vi cried a lot, especially seeing Vander die, whilst Powder had her back turned to Vander and only focused on Vi) Powder didn't want to go and save Vander specifically, but go with Vi, she was afraid of losing Vi too after losing her parents. ''But you said family got to stick together'' Powder's words to Vi before she went to save Vander.

Vi on the other hand is the only left of her family and the only person Powder has an actual relationship/connection with, Vi comforts her and takes care of her, so it's only logical that the deaths of Vander and the 2 guys didn't hurt her as much as Vi literally abandoning her.

I think that Silco at first was gonna use and manipulate Powder however after she hugged him he realized she was the exact same as him and this led to him truly loving her as his daughter, after all the world had treated both of them like trash and that shared suffering connected them deeply.
(Also the time skip may or may not have been 6 or 7 years)

  • @GusVergil

Two things I want to point out:
    1. Silco really loved Jinx as his daughter, his monologue in Vander's statue shows this.
    2. Jayce is the most hated character in the series and I don't know why. He did that to Heimer because he wanted to save his friend (Viktor), Heimer doesn't really knows the human's strugle because he's imortal, so when he said ten years would pass in a blink of a eye I really felt the Vikor and Jayce's disappointment towards him. I even standed by Jayce's side when he decided to do that with Heimer, because althrough Heimer was right about the danger of Hextech, but he wasn't prepared to handle the social problems as a counselor.

    • @AwkwardFellow
      @AwkwardFellow 2 года назад +48

My problem with Jayce was his inconsistencies as a character. He says one thing in one scene and then does the complete opposite the second someone tells him to. Heimer is one of the few people he knows and yet somehow never has a proper conversation with him about how they can safely move forward. He states that Viktor is his “brother” (and Viktor saved his life btw), but never talks to him about what they should do, instead he makes all the decisions on his own (including shutting things down which he should know would be bad for Viktor), and on top of that he saw Viktor cough up blood and nearly topple over a railing only to ignore that and bang a girl he had barely any screen time with to suggest they were interested that way. Just so…. they could show Viktor practically destroy himself over top of it? Which says what about a sick character struggling on their own vs a man who was given everything and takes it for granted? Also the scene with Vi made no sense idk why he decided to do that. It felt like a forced way to have him accidentally kill an innocent and have a heartbeat of clarity.
His character is a lot of “wow Heimer and Viktor you guys mean a lot to me, but i’m never showing how much i appreciate or respect them as important people in my life except for one time each.” Heimer the first time he listened about not sharing his work yet and then when Viktor ended up in the hospital which then made him turn his back on Heimer immediately. Where’s his concern for these people that are supposed to mean something to him? Sure he sucks at politics and is in over his head, but he can’t keep saying one thing and doing things that go the opposite direction. At some point it gets tired.

He changes his mind every five seconds it’s unrealistic and feels ridiculous to watch him act like two different characters simultaneously.
Adding that someone said it best:
“I think the writers wanted to show that Jayce is flawed but they insisted on that so much that he almost became a joke. He gets played literally every time he talks to another character in the show which leads him to change opinions every 10 minutes”

IIRC, there was a mention--or something subtle with it. The community/fandom was actually split into 2 in terms of that. Shipping the two and then treating the two as sisters. It wasn't canon and said out loud but there were implications. I can't sadly give receipts and etc. because it's been so long since the two came out in the game. Now however, there's finally proof and that's all that matters :D

There is one thing Id like to add: At the end of act one when Powder hugs Silco, as he looks around realising what happened you can really see in his eyes that he understands the situation Powder is in. He was in a really similair situation before as we saw in the flashbacks, he was betrayed and left behind by his brother, just like Powder was betrayed and left behind by her sisther (Vi didnt have much of a choice but Powder doesnt know that). I think this is why Silco took her in, because he knew that pain and connected to her. This is also the reason I believe Silco did love Jinx and was like a daughter to him, and Silco a father to Jinx.
Thank you for mentioning that Jinx finally accepted who she is. Vi was trying to make her become Powder again so hard and it bugged me a lot. Im not saying it was wrong of Vi to try to make Jinx a good person again. What Im trying to say is that she kept insisting that Jinx is someone she is not, at least not anymore. There is a difference between 'I know deep down shes a good person' and 'I know Powder is still in there' after all. As a trans person with parents who keep insisting Im someone Im not, this part of the story really resonated with me and I think you can see why.
Also Ive got an idea on what might happen to the council. In the fight scenes the orb in the weapons were able to create a shield in certain situations. Judging from the characters reactions they didnt control the shield, the orb made it all by itself. Victor is fused with the hexcore, which means it is possible a shield will be created saving Victor and a couple people around him. The hexcore seemed to be sentient to some degree, it might save Victor.

I'm sorry, I can't fully agree with you. While I sympathize with your personal experiences (truly, my heartfelt condolences on your very identity being questioned and ignored, maybe even rejected. Please continue to stay strong and well!) I can't agree with Jinx accepting who she is. In every instance, she has continued to become... well a jinx to everyone she interacts with be it her adoptive fathers, sister, Ekko, etc.
Problem is, she never intended to harm any of them. Her intentions, although not as good as they once were, have always been counterproductive to the ppl she cared for causing then much pain and suffering. Even after becoming self-aware, she continues to create chaos fully knowing the harm it will cause and tries to justify her own actions because of her traumatic past, as if she's the only one hurting. Jinx then denies all responsibility for the pain she's caused, pushing the blame onto others, mostly Vi. In her denial, she chooses not to feel any remorse anymore. We know it's there but she shields herself from it. With no proper guidance, she's chosen the path of villainy but that's not who she wanted to be. She wanted acceptance and to be helpful. Now, she's merely given up imo.
Part of Vi's motivation might have been to get the sister of her memories back but I felt it was more bc Powder is good natured and within Jinx, Vi still believes that the little girl who always wanted to help (even though she fails to) is present. And I don't see that as a bad thing since Powder is still a part of her. It's different from trying to make a person into what they're not.
Bc of all this, I can't support Jinx embracing "who she is". I'm fine with her accepting the change in herself but I can't get behind her belief that it's okay to stay as she is knowing her actions cause unintentional pain. I can appreciate great villains/villanesses who cause trouble with chaos as their purpose but Jinx always leaves me frustrated and a little sad.

@@mysticmusical I’m not about supporting or against Jinx embracing who she is. I see it as more of a tragedy where everyone falls to a fallen place and it is inevitable.
The thing I disagree with is that Jinx has given up on trying to be good. Which is why she ends up at Jinx at the end. I think that Jinx at the end becomes Jinx because Silco gives her an unconditional love that she was searching for, she gives Vi the option where she could be Powder again, but she refuses. Silco gives her validation that she is strong and perfect, while everyone else calls her a Jinx. Even Vi turned on her as a kid. Jinx says, “I thought you could love me the way you used to. But it wasn’t just me that changed, you did too.” Meaning Vi can’t love Jinx the same way anymore, so in her search for love and acknowledgement it’s ultimately Silco who prevails.
Where in one situation Vi punches, abandons, and calls Powder a Jinx when Jinx fucks up. Silco gives up everything for his daughter, and even in death doesn’t blame her he affirms her and lifts her up.

She watched her entire family die in front of her in a situation she felt responsible for, was locked up in a hellish prison and brutally beaten up every day for years, and she was just a child too, and the thing that got her through it was thinking about her sister Powder and her desire to get back to her. To go through all that, only to find out what happened and that your sister is essentially gone now, is unbearable. It makes complete sense to me why she wanted Powder back. I don’t Vi or Jinx for how either of them felt or acted, and that’s what makes this show such a perfect tragedy. Truly incredible writing.

A big part of silco's reason for taking powder in is because he saw himself in her. He was betrayed, in his eyes, by his own brother and when powder came to him saying that she abandoned her he wanted to take her in not just for her, but for his own sake. He says "it's okay, we'll show them" cause he wants to fight against the memory of his brother and prove that they can survive on their own and that they are in the right. He genuinely grows to care for jinx, and yes he is manipulating her, but a good portion of what he says is what he himself genuinely believes. I think their dynamic is fascinating, one of my favorite things about the show.

Its not that he realized she didn't know who he was... it's that he literally saw the situation and was having some serious flashbacks to Vander Betraying and trying to kill him when she said "She's NOT my sister!"
You can tell by the way the shot was framed with him staring down at her while she was saying it then glancing UP at Vander.... then the way his face changes in that moment as if he just had a realization. And that's when his hand hovers over her... unsure as to what to do next... then settles into hugging her close.
... because... she's just like him.
Fundamentally it was not a moment of advantage being taken... it was a moment of Empathy being shared.

Pretty much all of your Assumptions about Silco are basically tainted by the assumption that he's outright trying to use Jinx... the problem is that that's not the story being told.
The problem is that Silco is fundamentally trying to teach her the lessons he learned, the things that made him into the man he is today. Unfortunately ALL of those lessons are WRONG and TWISTED by the fact that he formed them in the shadow of fighting off the boot off his neck.
The main thing is that Silco and Vi both want the best for Jinx... but the BEST that both of them wanted was NOT the thing that Jinx needed.

6:00 Masks wouldn’t have done anything. The enforcers had no idea who Vi&Crew were, faces or no. What they did know was that they were from the Undercity, which they could tell from their general appearance and where they were fleeing to. I’d guess they didn’t exactly have high quality topside clothing just lying around that could’ve misled their pursuers, and of course the whole point of the exercise (and the reason why they climbed over the roofs) was because they never intended for anyone to actually see them:
7:00: Actually Ekko was the informant. No adults involved in this.
21:00 Silco never lied to Jinx, he genuinely thought Vi was dead. Marcus kept the fact she was still alive secret from him.
25:40 Don’t agree that it’s hard to tell. Silco has shown _nothing_ but affection for Jinx, even when it’s to his disadvantage so we know it’s not an act. He’s definitely not a good person, but his love for her is quite real.
26:50 you make it sound like that was intentional lol
29:35 I think this is less a situation of “who to trust”; Jinx has trust issues yes but the issue here is more that she loves both of them but Vi and Silco represent opposed forces both in the political sense and more personally in what kind of person they want to and expect her to be.
29:51 Silco aims at Vi, not Jinx.
    ---
Also, I think a lot of people miss an important point in that scene - Silco was right. Picking Vi was never really an option, not for the long term. Years have passed and Jinx has spent too many years being Jinx, a violent criminal who _enjoys_ being a violent criminal, to really truly be able to go back to her old self; She couldn’t even she wanted to, and I don’t really buy that she ever really wanted to. She wanted her relationship with Vi back, but she didn’t want to cease to be who she was.

He saw that Vi was indirectly hurting jinx and tryed to protect her and jinx being as unstable as she is reacted in protection of her sister.

There have been technically ways to enjoy the LoL universe before Arcane, and that was just reading the lore and short stories on the Universes page which... is not coded the best, admittedly. Before the page existe character lore was also included in other places, even in the game itself at some point. I've been a fan of Viktor and Jayce's lore for over 7 years now, they have always been pretty niche characters both as LoL champions and in the fandom, so seeing them be a pretty major point in Arcane is pretty insane. Being able to see art of Viktor pretty much everywhere is especially INSANE, just a few years back maybe like 5 people cared about him in total. Admittedly so far in Arcane he is shown very differently than he is in the game universe but I'm stoked for how he ends up in S2.
I personally don't think Viktor only talks about himself when he wants the technology to help people - he genuinely cares about other people, just in extreme ways, at least in the game universe. I interpret it this way: he wants to cure himself to make sure he lives to improve lives of many people like him, basically.

Zaun, aesthetically, fells like a favela. But, in practice, I think it's more of a colony, and Piltover is the metropole. So, rather than having responsibilities towards the people of Zaun, Piltover treats it as a territory for exploration. Piltover disrupts their politics, controls their economy and polices their streets with no intention for their well-being, because Zaunites aren't really citizens of Piltover, at least not fully.

He's manipulating her for his own gain, but there are also scenes that imply he *cares* about her. It could be that she just never grew out of that far more physically close relationship that younger kids have with their parents, (sitting on laps, snuggles, etc.) It creeps us out and that's INTENTIONAL.
He loves her. Either as a pure asset, an object of desire, a genuine adopted daughter, or a combination. In what way, we don't know. We never get an answer, and I LOVE that. It just reeks of bitter complexity.

hmmm, 1 thing about Viktor: it's not his leg is the problem, his body is weakened, that's why he has his cane, replacing 1 limb would extend little life but it shows that he's degrading sllowly again.... and that's why he went for more, not just seeking power but he did lose to the call of power.

Viktor is not talking about himself when saying he wants to help the people.
He geniunely do what he does for the people, his personal character lore makes this pretty clear.
Granted Arcane is not Canon lore so it may differ but I doubt they would stray thst far from a characters original personality.
He just saw an opportunity to help himself along the way.
    Theyre not mutually exclusive concepts.

  • @chaoticeiris
    @chaoticeiris 2 года назад +7

Why you doin Viktor dirty like this? He 100% was NOT ONLY TALKING ABOUT HELPING HIMSELF. He has multiple times said he wanted to help people. Even his league lore has him helping people. He's an extremist (mostly in league lore so far), yes, but there is major indication he has always only wanted to do good and even that line about them wanting to pursue greatness they failed to do good basically solidifies this as a fact in arcane itself. He 100% did not go back to the hexcore because of a promise of power. HE IS STILL DYING. From the flash backs we see that his leg has always given him trouble, so it seems to be a separate issue from his current illness. Mostly likely it is not his leg that his killing him but his lungs. Zaun Gray is an established league lore thing, it's the chemical clouds in Zaun that causes illness and potentially death. There's a robot champion named Orianna that suffered from Gray based Illness as a human and had to have all of her organs save her heart replaced to save her from it. Anyway. I think that it is very implied that he is still not doing well enough, that he is not suddenly cured after one touch of the hexcore and that is why he is trying again. Plus the way you worded things made it almost sound like he purposefully sacrificed the noncharacter of Sky (and I'm saying she's a noncharacter because they basically didn't write anything for her after showing her two times.) Also. You def should've said disabled. I'm aware that Viktor refers to himself with a certain word but. very shaky ground there.

I have never been a League of Legends fan. But Arcane was amazing. And then I started playing Legends of Runeterra. Which is amazing.
And that FIGHTING game...looks cool. And the Ruin King RPG looks great too.
I might be a LoL fan now... Or maybe just a Riot fan 😅😅
Also, I didn't expect episode 3 to get SO DARK

19:05 I'm happy you caught on to that. So many people I've watched thought Viktor was motivated purely by selflessness, but he was actually hiding his illness while secretly trying to heal himself.
BTW, I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing. Having something personal at stake can make you more committed to a cause than someone who's detached from the situation (someone like Heimerdinger, for instance). Self-interest and a desire to help others aren't mutually exclusive, but since Arcane is a tragedy at its core, I'm guessing Viktor's attempt to heal himself will go horribly wrong.

Lovely video, I have few plot corrections though!
Vi didnt see Silco take away Jinx in act 3 on the bridge, she probably thought her sister is dead again
Viktor didnt willingly sacrifice Sky, the doors to his laboratory were closed with a key, he also still has his terminal lungs illness so he wanted to heal that, not just get more powerful because why not
and Jinx fired at Silco in the last scene in act 3 because Silco was going to fire at Vi, not Jinx, she IS his daughter, he would NEVER

I don't think I can agree on some thoughts you have here on the characters/scenes but it's always fun to see people's interpretations and PoV! Sadly, a summary really can't show how completely amazing the show is! It's just downright incredible and I am amazed at the writers, animators and even the music team for it. They did wonderful with Arcane!
Also! Silco may be a bad person with a screwed up life and trying to teach Jinx his own experiences which didn't really worked clearly but he did learned to love Jinx as a daughter. I am quite certain on that! Also also--The Champions aren't that much fleshed out in the MOBA unless they get a special spotlight and etc.

One of my favorite things about Arcane is the attention to detail, something I noticed my 2nd time watching that I didn't the 1st is if you look at Jayce's mothers fingers in the flashback where they're lost in the snow her fingers are black (from frostbite I'm guessing?) and then when she's shown again in the present day she has prosthetic fingers. It's just a really fun way to add something to a very minor character to make things feel more real.

Also Jayce is unsure about what to do, His inconsistency is his character. Leadership was thrusted onto him when he just wanted to make magic. All his trying to do is stop all the fighting with the least amount of death. Which is Something anyone against War would try to do.

I know this isn’t very on topic, but I think a cool show to check out would be Freefonix. It takes place in futuristic world and people battle each other using music. It’s like if the battle at the end of Equestria Girls: Rainbow Rocks was a tv show. The plot of Freefonix is that a gothic band and their boss are trying to free a demon that will take over the world, so the titular band always tries to stop them. Just so you know, not all the English versions of episodes are online.

Just to show how amazing the storytelling is: Silko says "give him his meal" for the street thug that fought with vi's gang. He contolled their food supply and if they get to eat, possibly as a payment for their work. If thats not depressingly realistic of crime lords in the real world .

slight correction with silco adopting jinx, or maybe more of adding more (cause it could also be him being smart), but anyways, he looks at vander when powder says how she was left by her sister. he connects to powder cause he was also left by vander, one he considers like a brother.

The only thing I am unsure about is with Vi when she sees the monkey head. A bit later she seems a bit bewildered when Powder says it was her monkey bomb that worked. I feel maybe she knew in the back of her mind it was possible, but she may also have just realized that Powder was also caught in the blast also as she was certainly there.

I just wanted to let you know more about other Descendants stuff for you to react to! :
    1. Wicked World seasons 1-2 (takes place between Descendants 1 and 2). It’s animated and has 2 different plots for both seasons.
    2. Descendants: Under The Sea (takes place between Descendants 2 and 3). It’s live action, 10 mins long, and just shows more information about 2 characters.
    3. Descendants: Audrey’s Royal Return (also takes place between Descendants 2 and 3). It’s also live action, about 7 mins and is a recap of everything plus more information about Audrey being absent in the second movie.
(Everything else I’m going to talk about happens after the third movie).
    4. Descendants: Wicked woods, it’s an animation and a Halloween special.
    5. Audrey’s Christmas Rewind, it’s just a song of Audrey and what she thinks of her actions in the third movie.
    6. Descendants: The Royal Wedding. It’s a 20 min special of the Wedding between Mal and Ben. This also wraps up everything with a bow. (Originally it was supposed to be live action, but because of Covid, the actors not having enough time, and Camerons death (RIP), they decided to go with an animated special.
-There are other things like Planning for the Royal wedding shorts, and a Christmas holiday 4 min animation and stuff, but it doesn’t really tie in with everything. (Along with a 20 min special of Hades and random people from Disney just dancing to remixes of the songs from the Descendants movies “Descendants remix dance party”)
-Descendants 4 and 5 are confirmed but it will probably not be with the original cast, that’s all we know
