Historically, you couldn't even edit that level without making a hex edit/changing a certain option in Lunar Magic's overworld editor. D: lol @ the Switch Palaces turning OFF the ! Blocks, and not even bothering with the autoscroll in levels that would normally have them.
This is called Corner Clip. I can't explain it in detail here, but basically, depending on Mario's position and speed, he ends up clipping on the block. You've seen me do this dozens of times in this TAS because these clips give me a "boost" and I save time with it.

One question. How are you able to clip through the ground with cape?
I dont know the full technical explanation, but basically Mario interacts with slopes weirdly at certain angles and clips through with that
