Thanks for the reassurance that my newly brought dendrobium will survive in my care. I am glad I found this channel. You make it straight and simple in your explanations. Now a new follower here.
Dendrobiums are easy!!! I adopted a pot of them off the sidewalk one time. There were about 5 established stems with a couple babies coming up. It looked very much like a bonsai forest. Easy to care for and easy to bloom.
someone threw this plant I had to look on the internet but glad when I came to your site it was cut into 3 pairs I have just due to not knowing what it was but was so surprised the person who took it out of the garden I walk my dog past almost every day it has lots of roots. I will collect some bark from our park and replant again and see where I go I hate to throw it is away it so beautiful just cannot understand some people. thank you again
When I purchased my orchid it had blooms. It's still doing well but I need to know how much am I supposed to water? So you are saying not a lot of sun? Thank you
Had one starting to die i cut into pieces put cinnamon on end what do I do now. Will the lay on bark and mist them or put in peat moss and vermiculite and san zsoil Help
I have a dendrobium taiwan snowflake cherry blossom.I live in Ontario. All the leaves fell off,I believe its in its rest period.I read during this period,it needs cooler temperatures in order to bloom, can you confirm this?thanks.
how often should i fertilize my dendrobium just to bloom? is it right to cover my dendrobium with dark nets from direct sunshine since my orchids planted only in big cutted wood?
I just purchased a dendrobium at home depot yesterday, it is in bloom on one stalk. It is planted in a coconut shell. I think I need to repot it, as I want to see the roots, there is a little yellowing on some of the leaves. Please how do I do this? Should I wait a while, or what? I would like to pot it up, and still have the coconut shell as I like the look, and it reminds me of home. Thank you, Karen
Karen Dennis If it is yellowing, chances are there is root rot. I never recommend getting orchids form big box stores simply because they do not know how to adequately care for their plants. I would recommend repotting it in a bark growing medium.
I have been growing a dendrobium pulchellum orchid for the last 4 years. It's tall and green and growing like mad but it never flowers. What am I doing wrong?
Whenever there are no flowers but good vegetation it usually means not enough light. Experiment with putting it gradually into more light, a little more every couple of days.
I have dendrobium Plantation Plant. I Grow dendrobium as for commercial porpose i am facing problem is that some of my plants are attack by snails and they are eating the plant. Can u Please suggest me which pesticides to use or what kind of pesticides to use.. Please Help.
What should you do with the old canes on the dendrobiums? I have quite a few and it is pretty clear they will not bloom or grow leaves. Should you ever cut them?
Hello! Do not cut, some dendrobium grow their flowers on the old canes, plus, you can separate the plant and keep a bunch of old canes with roots that will make a new healthy one if proper taken care of
Help, please! I just purchased a large Den Nobile. It's full of bulbs and growing new canes. It's in a 4-inch pot. I usually repot my orchids as soon as I bring them home to check for problems. However, I need help with this Dendrobium. Should I repot it now or wait until it has bloomed out? Expert advice, please!
I need advice re amt of watering. Also, do I cut any part of the stems off where the blossoms are all gone and a new green plant at the bottom is sprouting new leaves & stems? Welcome to Gboard clipboard, any text that you copy will be saved here. ⁶
I would like to put mine in a full water culture as seen on Samantha and puppies.. she is having great success in doing this with several varieties of orchids..which is so normal for them....
My orchids are on their way. I already have two Cattaleyas, one very ill Phal, and one very healthy Oncidium. Those that I have just ordered are: Aerides Lawrenceae, Ascocentrum Ampullaceum, Dendrobium Densiflorum, Bulbophyllum Careyanum, Rhynchostylis Retusa, and a Vanda Cristata. They will arrive without pots or media, so I need to know how to pot each of them and care for them. I have an orchid potting mix ready for them. What else do I need to do? Please help out.
Luke, I see that your page on the Waipahu Pink Den says to restrict watering in winter until new growth appears in the Spring. Does this mean "no water at all". Please let me know. Thanks
I have a dendrobium phaleanopsis that I bought in bark media, and one I bought that's in all sphagnum moss. Which is preferable? DO they like to have consistently moist roots, or are they like a phaleanopsis which likes to have the soil dry out a bit between waterings?
What should you do if the growing tip or top leaf breaks most of the way off? Should I cut the leaf off the rest of the way ? What happens to growing and flowering? How are they effected? Its plant tag says its a Dendrobium Woo Leng Blue. I'm new to Dendrobiums. Thanks for any info.
Hey Larry, i have a question. My plant isnt blooming past 3 months and leaves are falling. Shall i re- pot it or any specific thing need to be done. Thanks mate!
i bought a couple of barerooted dendrobiums from a plant shop n i would like u to tell me how to care for them...because i think i am killing them...one died on me already n i am seeing the same problem with another.i don't know if i burnt it in the sun or over fertilized. i did use a very weak solution though. but the leaves are soft and turning yellow then dropping off from the very top of the plant. help me plz. i am from the caribbean so we have sunny weather here
Well you are not clear about light since phal don’t require same light that vandas does and how many types of dendrobium , what about winter rest ????.
Larry, I think I need help! You make it sound fool proof, well... The Saga: I was given two dendrobium babies, each about 3 inches tall with 2 fragile leaves a piece. Each of them grew and fell off of a big dendrobium mama plant. The owner of the mama plant was spritzing the babies with water every so often, and they started to grow some white roots. Then, he gave them to me, and we drove 14 hours in a car back to Colorado. Ok, I drove, but they came along on the dashboard, and seemed unphased by the relocation. SO... I went to the plant store, got a clay pot about 3 and a half inches wide, filled it with a bark blend that is well drained, and made the two little cakes a home. And for a while, they were happy. The Dilemma: One of them has had an increasingly unhappy leaf. Since it only has 2 leaves, you understand my concern. I moved it from the south window, to the east window. I've been trying to keep it moist during this growth period. I've told it sweet promises and bedtime stories, but the leaf just kept looking more dry. The dryness started at the tip and worked its way in, like cancer. Today, the leaf fell off! :-( BUT WAIT! There's a little sprout (maybe leaf, maybe mark of impending doom) coming up where the old leaf fell. Is that a baby leaf? Will my finicky cake survive!? What can I do to help it heal? The finicky cake's other leaf has the same brown mark starting to happen on the very tip. What is my plant trying to tell me? When you see a little brown mark at the tip of your dendrobium leaf, what can you do to make it go away, and make your baby cakes happy again? I'm new to this. The guy/angel at the plant store that helped me pot the babies was so informative and nice that he made little signs with their name on it so I could remember "Dendrobium," if that gives you an idea where I started (talk about new to orchids). That was two weeks ago. I thought they would grow big an strong because I love them sooooo much. What else do they need besides their new pot-home and all my lovin?
00brush Keep it more moist than you have been, and move it into good sunlight. They are very temperamental at this stage, and you can easily bring it back to life by keeping the growing medium moist.
I know there are many types of Dendrobiums, but yeah, he got the light level wrong and left out some other important things, like possible rest periods.
I hate losing the beautiful 10 flowers, but if it means saving the plant.... So, are you telling me not to use the coconut husk??? How about I disinfect it? The husk that is.
I live in Japan and bought a dendrobium orchid three days ago that already had flowers on it. the flowers are looking limp and i don't know what i should do or if this is normal for this time of year. Any help would be much appreciated.
Rai Bashikala I am sorry! Made sure to keep it damp, but offer a drying out period about once a week. This will induce new roots, and will prevent root rot.
Hi Anca, you should use room temperature water and make sure all the medium is wet, and then let all the water drain out. Water when the potting mixture seems dry.
I need advice re amt of watering. Also, do I cut any part of the stems off where the blossoms are all gone and a new green plant at the bottom is sprouting new leaves & stems? Welcome to Gboard clipboard, any text that you copy will be saved here. ⁶
I love when I stumble across one of Luke's old videos.

Can you tell me how to revive older dendrobium canes that have shriveled even though there is a brand new cane with lots of roots?
Hi, how to get roots from a cutting and do I use sphagnum moss for that?
Hey they do need specific winter care might be good to note.

I recently bought Debdrobium, I put that in a plastic pot with a red soil.. Do i need to remove the soil and cover with Orchid fertilizers and moss?
Hi Balram, I would remove the red soil and put it in a orchid bark mix even add some sphagnum moss.

Susan's prairie orchids not NO water, but reduced water. The psudobulb will give the plant water, but it needs to be stressed in order to flower.
I have a dendrobium phaleanopsis that I bought in bark media, and one I bought that's in all sphagnum moss. Which is preferable? DO they like to have consistently moist roots, or are they like a phaleanopsis which likes to have the soil dry out a bit between waterings?

I thought this was one of the only orchids that wanted stronger sun.
It is... it needs way more light than Phalaenopsis 😂
how to water dendobrium?
Some one out there confused up something Wgeb I am a registered nurse and not interested in orchid growing.
lithophyte orchid, urea free fertilizers, things like that make a difference when mentioned.
For dendrobium mixture, can I use rose medium?
