Love how Flik had a character development. In the beginning he says leave her alone but backs out when Thumper stepped up to him but now he stands his ground. Flik still gets beaten but he can't be changed from who he became.
Just like in real life, where the people don't need the police; it's the police that need the people. A police force needs a people to rule. It's that critical fact that will be outlined in the Blue Reapers.

The role of a police force isn't meant to "rule" a people, but to SERVE them. In the beginning of the film, it's hinted at that the ants entered into a deal with the grasshoppers, with the ants providing food for the grasshoppers in exchange for (supposed) protection against other bugs; but even then, Hopper makes it pretty clear that he and his gang will BE the threat themselves if they don't get their pay. So, rather than a police force, the grasshoppers are more so a group of bandits guarding a source of their bounty from other groups of bandits.
The thing that makes Flik a hero is how remarkably brave he is. Willing to die for his people. A Bug's Life would've been just a typical mediocre kids movie if Flik wasn't as great as he is. It's still not one of Pixar's best movies, but it remains a classic nevertheless.

Thats darn amazing, i always knew that id Hopper did get his better ending were he won. His Grasshoppers would turn locusts, but i didn't know that Thumper is a glimpse of what would happen if Hopper Succeeds, a Swarm of Thumpers would be a nightmare and would have eat everything
That was why Molt may have been aiding Hopper to take over the island, but he was one of the few grasshoppers to have the "nice guy" type personality that led to him joining the circus.
I think to extent molt is kind of bad as the grasshoppers cause he is still willing to abuse all these ants. It is shown that he does like having power over them their first scene.

I started reading with Flik’s and Hopper’s voices in my head. When I realized what you were doing about halfway through, I started reading it over again from the top and all I could hear was Sully and Mr. Waternoose.
Goes to show the entire ant colony (except for Dot as she was loyal to Flik throughout the whole movie) that if Flik and the Circus Bugs NEVER came back from being exiled by Princess Atta, then Hopper and his gang all could've enslaved the ants for the rest of their lives and even execute them (including the queen) later on...
This is one of those rare instants where the villain doesn’t underestimate the enemy. He was right about the ants outnumbering him, but if he didn’t double down on his demands for extra food they probably wouldn’t have rebelled, don’t bite the hand that feeds you I guess
Thumper used to creep me out when I was a kid Heck, I still can’t watch this film without my skin crawling whenever he’s onscreen (Probably wasn’t helped by the fact that I used to keep boxes of live locusts as food for my bearded dragon and they were equally creepy)
Bugs life was pretty dark and violent when flik gets his ass kicked by thumper not to mention hopper being fed to the newborn chicks. I used to be afraid of the scene when i was a kid about flik getting beaten up.
