The Story really is a lot deeper and even more amazing than the Animation is able to show you. First of all : Franz Stigler knows as he see's that crippled B - 17 the crew had no chance against the Atlantik - Wall (where the probably best anti aircraft gunners in the world at that time are waiting). But it's the only course for them to return to England under these circumstances. So he decided to help them as he fly's in a close formation with the bomber. Not a single german AA - Battery opened fire! Secondly : It is importand to know that these two Gentleman became really close friends. Franz Stigler became a honorary Member of the 379th bomb group and was introduced to all the later born family members which were only born because of him showing mercy. That's without a doubt seriously moving and a great honor. Last but not least : Franz Stigler as a young pilot was trained and influenced by the right commanding Officer. He told him : I'd better never hear that you shoot at men in a parachute. If this happens i'll come and shoot you down myself!!! "This is not for me and not for your enemy, but it's for you, for your soul. One day if you survive this war you will be fine with yourself, that's what it's all about" Both Charles "Charlie" Brown and Franz Stigler were true hero's and without a shadow of a doubt honorable man. These story's does not happen very often, they are rare. As time marches on we are all responsible for keeping these important messages alive. Love and respect from germany! Great reaction video, guys can't wait for the next one......
You are welcome! If you are interested there is more : The Story behind the Songtext - Line "said goodbye to the cross he deserved" is that Franz Stigler shot down two other bombers that day. If he shoot down the crippled bomber in front of him will owe him the Knights Cross (for three bomber - kills in only one day) for sure! It would be very easy to bring that bearly flying "Ye Olde Pub" down. It's like a sitting duck just a little tip with the finger, a short salvo and this airplane is surely done! Keep in mind : He knows this airplane bombed my fatherland only minutes ago. Summerzing these facts it is (in my opinion) even more honorable that he personally decided firstly not to pull the trigger and secondly to gave these men a helping hand by risking his own live in three ways only to save them. Further facts are : Franz Stigler was an Ace - Flyer also an Instructor for young pilotes. He lost 17 airplanes from the type Bf - 109. He also flew the worlds first fighter jet the Me - 262. Later he was wounded by a bullet from a tail gunner of a B - 17 which deeply scratched his head. This injury causes him to stay on the ground so he can't fly any more. The fact that he did not die because of this wound is a small miracle by itself. There is more and more and..........

@@deathkorpsofkriegguardsmen8488 That's a really sad and wrong perception, hat all fighters on one side has to be something wrong. The perception only makes one thing easier, to kill someone because it will dehumanize him. In fact, only a few members really where Nazis. Most of the fighters on the sea, in the air or on the land where normal countrymen who often dont really know something about the ongoings in the managements... And in situation like this, someone really can show somebody his respect. I would recommend your ex-teacher to read a little Book. Called "A higher call" by Adam Makos and Larry Alexander.
"To the American pilot's surprise, the German did not open fire on the crippled bomber. Stigler instead recalled the words of one of his commanding officers from Jagdgeschwader 27, Gustav Rödel, during his time fighting in North Africa: 'If I ever see or hear of you shooting at a man in a parachute, I will shoot you myself.' Stigler later commented, 'To me, it was just like they were in a parachute. I saw them and I couldn't shoot them down.'"
Up at that altitude the air twmp is around -40 to -60 If I remember correctly. The oil they used is what froze. This story gets me every damn time. I recommend reading the book A Higher Call. It's about Charlie and Franz. Another great reaction!
It's important to remember, the Germans were not villains, they weren't evil bad guys in WWII. The Nazis were. The first country the Nazis conquered was Germany, and the Germans suffered for it. But the majority of soldiers, pilots and sailors in the military controlled by the Nazis, were just people. And they wanted to go home to their wives and children too. People generally don't automatically just kill other people.
Stuff like this needs needs to be shown. It wasn’t all Germans that were heartless nazis not even the majority. Just goes to show how warriors respect each other.
If I remember correct, Stieglers instructor said that if he sees anybody shooting at a person who shooted him out of a plane he will shoot that man personally, and Stiegler probably saw this plane as such even though it was still flying
The song hits even harder if you read the book "A Higher Call" by Adam Makos. He recounts the lives and military career of Franz and Charlie up to and after this event happens. It mostly focuses on Franz' entire life, and really illuminates some amazing perspectives on WW2 and 1930s-40s Germany. Franz was a true man and hero, and his story deserves to be known, as well as all of the Luftwaffe pilots who showed incredible daring, honor, and principles in the skies of WW2. The audio book is on Audible if you prefer that, it's an incredible experience either way. Highly recommend that book, one of the best I've read.
By far, my favorite Sabaton song, and the one I can most relate to. I live near Bremen (the place they bombed) and Oldenburg (where they almost crashed), and one of my Opas (Grandpa) was a AA-gunner at the Atlantikwall, in the Netherlands. I wonder if he saw a BF-109 escorting a B-17? Great reaction.
Great story, great song , great animation and even better history lesson. No one tells stories like Sabaton, always from the point of view of those that were involved in those great events, the human experience not some dry story from a dusty book, but living human beings and what they went through. Great reaction guys and yes it is emotional, Franz did get something better than a medal, he got a friend and a Sabaton song how many of us can claim that!!!!The other great song and animation is the Night Witches about the all female Russian 588th bomber squad who fought the German invasion with old WW I biplanes made of wood and cloth, that is just as emotional and yet just as inspirational. All these songs have the same lesson try and be a better human being, not perfect just better!!!!

Aye, a great sadness that shows that even in the pre-internet days there were still unpleasant folk who just couldn't wait to put their hatred into words. It is worse in a way because it takes no energy at all for a troll to spew some vitriol in a comments section but penning and posting a real letter requires you to put some thought and effort into it.
0'34" 👌💫 Rock on GuyZ . 10'10" - 10'15" 11'02"-11'12"
The story really happens. One German Pilot decides to escort the Bomber out of Germany skies.
Franz Stigler's daughter (Jovita) even responded to this reaction video below.
Hey,sweethearts,if you want another great story from SABATON,react to "Night Witches"
More Saboton.
Why are you still calling them Sae-baton? Or as it sounds like: Sae-beton.
SA-ba-ton.
Заметил, все геройства американцев это их героиство, когда им надирали жопу: спасти рядового райена, ноу булетс флай,
ярость....
who started chopping onions
If you want the whole story go to sabaton history and listen or react to it
It's possible that guns were freezed by air. Crew of the bomber must have gloves or their hand will be freezed to the gun.
It's Sa-bah-taan!
History lesson 1-0-1
Have you listened to any of Noora Louhimo ( Battle Beast ) ? and next Laurenne / Louhimo ( Netta Laurenne & Noora Louhimo) - " Bitch Fire" Official music video. from FI.
B17s were well built. Able to take punishment. It was God who saved the B17. He put the German pilot up there
The guns froze due o either being insufficiently oiled, or contaminated oil.
When youre that high in the air, just about anything will freeze
Sorry, but wrong pronunciation of the band's name. It is pronounced: saa baa tonn, not say-baton.
just shows not all in the German army went all monsters
Please do attack of the dead men by them next
someone is cutting onion here
