I have a feeling this will backfire massively, if we see more of Esther. She's a child. What she needed her was someone to comfort her and take care of her. Instead, June thrust the responsibility of "executing justice" onto her. Now, the first time Esther felt any agency in years is when she brutally killed someone. Empowerment through violence. And then afterwards June tells her she loves her - so she'll also tie that memory of killing someone to receiving affection and appreciation. That's how child soldiers are made. It's absolutely heartbreaking to watch, but really well written and acted. I love this show :)
Yeah it’s both rewarding to see this happen but obviously traumatic for Esther. June doing it would have been less traumatic, and been more like justice (Mayday are the “good guys” who enact true justice and help/defend ppl suffering in Gilead). But now Esther has made a very irreversible step into being part of Mayday and becoming a child soldier. And we know that that’s not going to be very good for her in the long run.

Her character development is so well written. You are rooting for her but at the same time she scares the sh*t out of you like in this scene when she is ruthless in a dark complex way.

I already started to like Esther in this very first episode I saw her, and I feel so sorry for her... And there's a thing what I simply cannot understand. How could they even dare to do such things to her, when she is still a child and child is a treasue in Gilead...
Because she's a woman in their eyes. A Woman capable of bearing children. She's nothing but an incubator to them. She said her Commander husband was infertile/impotent so he brought in other men trying to impregnate her. He didn't care if she was treated well he just wanted a baby.
Because in Gilead a child is only a child until they become fruitful..... Girls and women only have 2 purposes in gilead. To serve men, and to be fruitful/multiply .... The moment these girls "flower as it was said when June was in the hospital." They become "women." Whether they are 10 or 15 does not matter to them. Look at how young nicks wife was as well ... They are literally groomed their entire childhoods to be good "obedient wives and breeders." It's sickening and when you rewatch it all in a Post Roe v Wade world ... It hits so differently ....
@@Trolls-Be-like Not really, we don't live in A Hand Maiden's Tale. You live in the United States of America. We are not a theologically run government, we are not a patriarchal government. I'm sorry that killing kids is now something you vote for.
Not a child. This idea that people who are under 18 but past puberty are still children is a modern conceit that is not technically correct. If you have passed puberty, and you live as an adult, you are an adult.
I thought she did this so she can funnel their anger, especially the little girl who has sadistic qualities, to something or someone more deserving of it
Her daughter is still there, so anyone who is saying she is becoming the monster she hates obviously don't have children. She never leaves or stops trying to take it down because she wants her daughter back!!! If they require her to be as cold as them, they taught her well how to do that and she's come to realize that is all they understand. So to say she is becoming a monster is just wrong. They could just return the children, turn themselves in and admit their crimes, but they won't, so she sees these monsters she's killing as protecting her daughter and all the children from future assaulters. She sees teaching these girls how to fight back as salvation and the fight for freedom. They are assaulting young girls after mentally assaulting them as little girls, she's igniting their inner fire to burn through all this filth that was unfairly and wrongly put on and in them. Their bodies are literally being invaded!!!! They keep saying how selfish she is, when nothing is further from the truth. Until ALL the prisoners are free, including her daughter, how can she rest? How can she not take the evil they inflicted on her and use it against them to restore true purity of children and literally save the world? If Gilead and their followers are not completely destroyed what safe future does her daughter and all the other victims have? She is NOT becoming a monster. SHE IS A MOTHER WHO LOVES HER DAUGHTER AND REFUSES TO LEAVE HER TO SUCH A FATE. SHE'S A WOMAN OF GREAT EMPATHY AND CARES THAT OTHERS ARE ALSO SET FREE. A TRUE HERO. Take care :)
Ever heard the phrase “The road to hell is paved with good intentions”? This is what’s happening here. Everything June does is to save her daughters, but the more she does, the more she does questionably moral and ethic things. Take this scene. June could have finished the man himself. Instead she took a traumatized teenage girl and manipulated her to kill her own abuser by associating violence with maternal love. This action does nothing to save her kids (June could accomplish the same thing herself) and hurts Esther even more. June should have comfort her and empowered her in a healthy way.
@@pisces2569 If you've never been assaulted repeatedly, then you have no idea what you're saying. This girl was given the tools to feel empowered just as she needed to release the rage that she had to keep quiet, assault after assault. IF they allowed girls in America to give back as good as the assaulters gave, this would be happening in America right now. They arrest girls if they try to kill their assaulters and how many women are in prison RIGHT NOW simply for defending themselves against an assaulter? THAT is NOT fair. Getting a lawyer and counselor does not help make one feel better when someone has been PHYSICALLY violated. Only PHYSICAL justice and retribution makes one feel better. I've seen it over and over. Those in therapy NEVER heal - those that destroy those that hurt them - they feel soooooooooooooooooooo much better. My Dad's car was blown up and sadly he wasn't in it. The entire town was sad about this. You know not what you speak because you haven't been born into a family where they only breed girls to assault and pass around to Fathers, Uncles, cousins, Grand Fathers, friends, business associates etc. From toddlers on. They put vodka in our bottle with oj to drug us. Still can't drink oj to this day. Why are most pedos walking free to this very day. We told and told, I was one man's 22nd victim, he had little girls and he got the other little girls at playdates - he was out the next day. Have you ever been to family court? Even if your Daddy is a pedo, he still has visitation rights. Yup. Look up the laws in America at how young they're still allowed to marry girls off - 12. As soon as man's law of protect the assaulter and pedo is done away with, then you'll see real justice - statute of limitations - you can show video of the assault and they won't touch the assaulters. What you call healing is a false fabrication and polite way of saying we can't do anything about what they did to you because man's law protects assaulters and pedos currently in America. We see right through that nonsense. What you suggest is to ask them to stuff it waaaay down, but I guarantee you, they see them walking free and it will ALL come back up to the surface and they will despise your weakness and inability to admit the law favors evil currently - not just in this tv show. So if you can't handle it in a tv show, the coming reality is gonna be waaaaay too honest for you. Remember, when you know better you do better - killing assaulters has never been the problem - it is the NOT killing of them that has led this world to ruin and the idea that this tv show could become reality if girls don't step up and take care of themselves physically as well as mentally. UNWOMEN is from this old tale and it's no coincidence UNWOMEN is the slogan for the UN currently. Look up it's poster. It says UNWOMEN. Saying NO isn't enough. Never was. You have to MAKE them stop and only one way to do that and it's NOT therapy. Why don't you go to the po po after an assault - see how little they care - see if they will even offer you a glass of water or a place to sit down while you tell your story. See if you don't just file a complaint that goes no where because who assaulted you is more important than you on the money ladder. Wake up and smell reality. Be well and take care. :)
I believe rapists should be given the death penalty, or castrated at the very least. Make the punishment worthy of crime. Besides murdering someone raping them is the worst thing you can do to another human being.
Would you rather I rape you or cut off your hands? People pretend rape is worse because it happens to women and children but things worse than rape happen to men all the time.
She’s an incredible actress, Esther.. she played little Tonny, in I, Tonya. And I really love Ann Dowd, she is just excellent as Aunt Lydia. All good actors. Can become a little morbid to watch tho.
Probably better off not. What June did was not healthy or right. She took a traumatized child and manipulated her into killing her abuser by associating maternal love and validation with violence. This will only hurt Esther.
@@MR-mc5xg No it is a real thing. It happened to someone in my family ( about 12 years old). Seems to becoming more common in the last twenty years. Women can also be manipulative when they are broken up with ( seen it in high school) and this can also cause issues. You have the falsely accused in prison then you have the misidentified in prison ( the last by far is the largest numbers). Kinda feels like the right thing….. until people are standing over the graves weeping because an innocent man/woman died because of an unjust legal system. When you read a book about psychology and the misidentification of suspects in crimes, it will almost make you never want to be on a jury again.
When it comes to sex and torture scenes, the imagination is so much more effective. Weak film makers try to cover their lack of talent with graphic scenes.
The fact that she basicly mimicked aunt Lydia’s speech when they stoned the rapist to death really goes to show how much humanity she has lost. It’s like, sure this is justice but we have stooped to their level.
I'm really confused about June this season about her ethical decisions as I can't blame her either. Ok, so she exposed the other girls to save her daughter which is relatable and landed in Canada, BUT WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO ESTHER?
So...I'm seriously the only one who DOESN'T trust Esther? I just think this little girl is darker and more controlling than most think. But if I'm wrong....sorry Esther!
She takes her anger out on the hand maids bc she is a traumatized teen lashing out. She felt betrayed by June when June wanted to lay low- Esther is young and thinks in terms of life and death very casually, willing to take tons of risks. She despises men because every man she’s ever known has abused her, except the Guardians who taught her how to make poison. June is able to reach her and reorient her to the fact that they are on the same side.

She’s already capable of bearing children, she stopped being a child in that moment.

Not really, we don't live in A Hand Maiden's Tale.
June has had so much trauma, she is going to take down as many despicable characters as possible. June dgaf. 🤓
I was shocked that june motivates the girl to kill somebody. On the other hand she simply lost her mind🤯
Good girl..... make me proud oooofffff gives me chills my favorite line in the scene
I thought she did this so she can funnel their anger, especially the little girl who has sadistic qualities, to something or someone more deserving of it
all rapists should be punished this way, if not by their victims, then by the law
Technically true under islam
@@sagestrings869 Islam also needs 4 male witnesses to even punish the rapist
I think if men knew they'd have to sit to pee for the rest of their lives, most would think twice about assaulting anyone.
Julie Bella, it's great to see someone who finally gets it 👍 👏 🙌!!
@@Lightner445555555555 Thank you! :)
So female rapists as well?
@@Theo973 ur so weird
@@AidenJones nah you are
Would you rather I rape you or cut off your hands? People pretend rape is worse because it happens to women and children but things worse than rape happen to men all the time.

Elizabeth moss ......legend.....hope she won awards for THIS role
God, this scene is satisfying.
God McKenna Grace’s acting is good
She’s an incredible actress, Esther..
she played little Tonny, in I, Tonya.
And I really love Ann Dowd, she is just excellent as Aunt Lydia. All good actors. Can become a little morbid to watch tho.
I miss Esther. Such a good character. Really wish she could have gotten out
I hope we get to see her again! I haven’t seen the new episode since I’m out the country 😩
What a crazy juxtaposition to Aunt Lydia's speech before the particicution of the "rapist guardian" in season 1
I LOVE this scene!
June being Aunt Lydia in this scene and using the same words for the execution of the rapist in the first season is amazing mirroring.
The true meaning of justice
Wish I had June Osbourne in my corner when I reported my childhood victimization.
Probably better off not. What June did was not healthy or right. She took a traumatized child and manipulated her into killing her abuser by associating maternal love and validation with violence. This will only hurt Esther.
This should be every rapist’s punishment tbh

I love this show.

Definitely seeing a rebel aunt Lydia vibe from our June
When it comes to sex and torture scenes, the imagination is so much more effective.
Weak film makers try to cover their lack of talent with graphic scenes.
Lucifer: “No You’re just letting him off easy!”
That scene later when they’re in bed together and she called her Bannana. That’s when I knew that June has gone Coocoo for coco puffs.
The fact that she basicly mimicked aunt Lydia’s speech when they stoned the rapist to death really goes to show how much humanity she has lost. It’s like, sure this is justice but we have stooped to their level.
This scene is very similar to the final scenes of Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus which was made into a movie entitled Titus starring Anthony Hopkins.
Savage June Osborne stopped in the middle of her walk to hear the man suffering damn.
Loved this scene
This was rough
Yeah it really was but also satisfying at the same time.
Also I’m a Ohio state fan as well raised by a Ohio state family
I'm currently writing a fan fiction novel on this show where every single commander meets a slow, gruesome death.

We are going to have to start doing this
I'm really confused about June this season about her ethical decisions as I can't blame her either. Ok, so she exposed the other girls to save her daughter which is relatable and landed in Canada, BUT WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO ESTHER?
I could barely watch season 1 as it was hard to watch this pain to treat women and the restraint of freedom.
You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain
The Handmaid's Tale is happening for real in the Muslim nations.
Not just Islsmic counties.
USA moving to abortion ban is one step closer to Gilliad everyday.
Why dose this scene is so SATISFYING to watch? Is something wrong me? I hope not😑
So...I'm seriously the only one who DOESN'T trust Esther? I just think this little girl is darker and more controlling than most think. But if I'm wrong....sorry Esther!
She takes her anger out on the hand maids bc she is a traumatized teen lashing out. She felt betrayed by June when June wanted to lay low- Esther is young and thinks in terms of life and death very casually, willing to take tons of risks. She despises men because every man she’s ever known has abused her, except the Guardians who taught her how to make poison. June is able to reach her and reorient her to the fact that they are on the same side.
The music is so ominous..holy shit.
I can’t believe she’s born in 2006!!!
Kinda screwed up the only characters in this scene to live to the end of the
season finale are Esther, June and Janeane.
im getting the urge to watch this series it has something other shows dont have emotion and feeling when i watch a episode or clip i can really feel the emotion portrayed UPDATE i watched 2 eps and turned it off its doing the one thing i hate JUMPING from the present to the past
Finished the series a few days ago. Cant wait for Season 6 and Testaments
This scene disturbed me so much. Don’t get me wrong, I am in no way defending the rapist (he deserves justice) but I don’t like how June was so sadistic about this. Brutality and spite only passes on more hatred, it’s a dark spiral to go down. She is fighting to stop brutality and cruelty, yet she’s dishing it straight out (deserved or not) She should of protected Esther, not of manipulated her into killing
i get your point- but one of ester’s first lines were ”i want to hurt them so bad- gilead, the men” and i think june wanted to help ester ’stand up for herself’ and i don’t see in any way that ester hesitated to kill him and this is one of my fav scenes so far this season- but as i said, i get your point, u just wanted to add this idk👩❤️💋👩
Oh, yeah, poor rapists, let's give them some hotel rooms with good breakfast.
@@nielubieinceli You’re not quite getting it are you? As I said, I am not defending the rapist in any way. But I don’t like how June behaved in that scene. As our protagonist, she is meant to set a much better example then that, not sink to that level of cruelty and sadistic behaviour. It’s disturbing to see a good person sink down to the very thing she’s fighting against.
@@laraeverdeen3544 Shes a product of her environment what do you expect. I don't think any person after years of physical/emotional abuse, repeatedly being raped, having two children taken away from her, losing men that she loved and watching her friends be killed and brutalised would make anyone a good person. She's a human being and eventually when subjugated to enough cruelty we have the capacity to snap.
@@killerqueen4411 You aren’t wrong, everyone is bound to snap at some point, it’s just sad to see it happen to someone like June who is trying to overthrow the cruelty of her society.
June was absolutely being unfair and selfish in this scene. She's using Esther to exact her revenge on Gilead to lessen her own suffering. This is only gonna damage Esther even further.
Meh, I'm ok with it.

@@Theo973 They said ‘rapists’, there was no mention of male or female. Interesting you associated that with men though
@@glol1097 hi,
I said that because all the rapists on here are being portrayed as men. Yet, in real life, this is furthest from the truth! I was raped by females and it still scars and devastatingly pains me to this day. The original poster said they should get the death penalty. I agree! I’m just wondering if I and other men were seen as beating the females to death who raped up if it will still be viewed as equal in society. It hurts me as much as it hurt anyone else.
