Glad to see FFG taking accountability for the statistical meta issue. Hopefully this pans out okay long term without losing too many players. I want this game to be a huge success. It's the best TCG I've played in a while, and I started in the early 90s.
Honestly I have to agree with the choice to suspend a leader rather than deck cards, as it makes it so the "ban list" is much easier to manage, especially for newer players, you just say "not that leader" rather than having to manage which cards are or are not permitted.
Fantastic decision. I can't find anyone in the chat who outright disagrees with this choice; everyone seems very supportive! Baba was way too oppressive for his cost and although I got a showcase, I'm very happy that you said you may come back to un-suspend him one day!
Everyone agrees others that those who played him cause they are too bad to win with anything else and also those who played him just because its the best.
First of all thank you to the Star Wars Unlimited team for this update. I honestly believe that the suspension of a Boba Fett as early as now is a good move otherwise entire game would end up broken because Boba would have clearly benefited from Set 3 cards more than the newly released cards. This effectively balances out the entire game & the entire secondary market at the cost of one card. However, I also believe that FFG should check what cards they give the Legendary Rarity, improve pulls rates during card and set development. Because imagine paying 99$ or 99 EUR and only pulling 2-3 Legendaries only to have the market sell them for a measly 3-10$ each. There's no effective rate of return for buying boxes. Also, for the competitive game, developers should eventually introduce a new Suspension and Limited List where certain Leader-Base combos would not be allowed and limit overpowered cards to 1 or 2 in a deck to break consistency of overpowered decks. This would provide a more progressive way to make the meta more balanced and the secondary market better. Hopefully you guys see this. 😆
I don't agree at all. This is way too intrusive. It's better to let players figure out a meta to solve decks that are doing well. Banning the leader is enough. I think that it's a very bad idea to ban leader-colour combination as so far, the colour has never been the problem, but rather the leader.
@ i never said leader-colour combination. I said leader-base combination. If all of a sudden Grand Inquisitor gets too broken with let’s say ECL in the future then perhaps that leader-base combo should be restricted, otherwise, any other green base is still allowed. However, if like in the case of Boba Fett (Yellow Leader) where all colors and all bases, would work WITHOUT any setbacks or consequences, then I’d would effectively suspend the leader. Hope this clarifies my point.
@@djnoctis2792 Thanks for your response! It would probably not be a leader problem, but an ECL problem in that case. I see what you mean, but I think that banning a combination is not a doable solution I think. It would just be such a weird rule.
pokemon is the same way. It sells packs, because casual people love the IP and don't care about individual power level. Its always been the case that you should just buy singles
The queen*--it's Sabine now! (Sabine is totally manageable a threat. She's to be respected, no doubt about that, but she's got direct lines of answers in a wide variety of cards. Boba's answers are a lot more narrow and change depending on which flavor comes out).
Great announcement video and format which is clear, concise and covers all the bases. You all have done so well communicating with the community regularly and transparently - awesome to see!
Dude the transparency and honesty, and the willingness to communicate discrepancies really goes a long way in my opinion. I believe true supporters of the game will also agree. Well done FFG👏🏼
Common FFG W tbh. They've been super consistently open and transparent during this game's lifespan, and while they've made mistakes, they've been super responsive and have often corrected them soon after.
I would have voted to make Boba's Armor blue and Firepsray red to break up the native yellow package and avoid blocking/suspending/errata'ing the leader. Answers have been found for different colors of Boba, but with his unique benefits being in his native color, he's the Paper, Rock and Scissors of the meta. Forcing people to pick a flavor to play means he wouldn't be as universally dominant. imho
Changing something as integral as the color of a card just as an errata is Way more difficult. Now my card is not the card I'm looking at, but something I can only know if I look online. If it was banned, and then rereleased in a set as the new color, that'd be fine, but just saying oh btw it's not yellow it's blue will scare off many more casual players
Boba has so many shout out cards that benefit him, why not make a shout-out card that hurts him? Sarlaac Pit (ground unit): 5/0/8 when played/on attack: this unit captures an enemy Boba Fett Leader unit or a non-leader non-vehicle unit. While a unit is captured by this card, its owner does not control that unit. (The Firespray can attack this with swoop down to free Boba!)
Boba Fett was a problem that needed to be dealt with. But now we have a new oppressive problem with a 2/5 Aggro leader that's gonna be mostly unchecked because the best midrange deck to answer it is gone.
There are and will be plenty of midrange decks that can deal with Sabine, but just did not stand a chance because of Boba. Sabine will still be popular, as aggro typically is, but Boba was oppressive.
100%. It's one of the reasons why I don't think they should ban leaders. They should ban the cards that enable just like magic Does. magic bans enablers. His armor should have been banned. That would have brought his Dex power level down dramatically. If they felt they still needed to go more they could have air-rated him to be a 3-7 like Django. That also would have brought his power down and then on the third wave if he was still too dominant then suspend him. But there were things that they could have done first before suspending a leader who's just going to be replaced by the next leader.
Sabine gets clapped by a lot of decks, I've played a lot against Sabine . Even in showdowns , she is not as oppressing as you think. Is she strong ? Sure but nowhere near bobas level
No she won't be. Sabine is 100% answerable. She's strong, she's to be respected, but she's got SO many counters. She's got a wide variety of responses in a wide variety of colors and archetypes. And the answers to beat Sabine ECL are similar to those to beat Yellow and Red. This is not the case of Boba, where Boba can be built as Tier 1/2 in *four* colors, and the answers to beat him in each rarely overlap.
The players don't suffer--the players benefit. This opens up *so* many options that were previously just...shut down by Boba existing, and thus it also raises the value of so many other things. Most notably, every other Yellow Villain leader.
Should just errata Boba to be 7 cost deploy and/or have his ability restand one resource instead of two. I think that it would have balanced him out in this way. But we'll see how the meta adjusts to this change for now.
I highly highly disagree with this for multiple reasons. The first and biggest reason is the financial value of a showcase. It tells us that the cards the Chase cards are not protected in any way, which is devastating for somebody who is a collector for this game. I believe that what they should have done was suspend his armor. His armor is the key piece that makes him so darn powerful suspending the armor would have kept the leader in a healthy spot, the showcase, and the financial value of it in a healthy spot.
We've known for 30 years now that value is not protected in a TCG, and that bans are possible. And sorry...almost anybody who paid that much for the Boba showcase could see from a mile away that Boba was in danger of banning. Boba's Armor was an incredibly powerful staple, but Boba very often did not need that card to win. Had you banned Boba's Armor, he'd have gone from "far and away the best leader and shutting down all other yellow villain leaders" to "still very much the best leader and shutting down all other yellow villain leaders".
Force speed 2.0, you suspended him AFTER people bought tons of product and built decks buying on secondary market for set 3. You knew this was coming and decided to sell product first then yank the rug. TERRIBLE and huge loss of trust going forward. All purchases for game on hold now
Well, I don't agree with you 🤷🏻♂ it's not the first case like this in the history of TCGs and not the last one for sure, so kudos to them for admitting that it was their mistake. A the end it is always about the players cracking the secret codes to build S-tier decks that were never going to work from game designer perspective ;) Peace! ✌

@MagnificentMaliKi it is both. You don't want it to be in investment that is up to you, but every TCG becomes an investment or else you are just hoping to have fun while wasting money
If Boba overrepresentation actively diminishes Set 3 hype and stops people from playing in Premier locals, then suspending Boba early is best done *on* release. Gives Set 3 so much more momentum.
@@sylinmino set 3 has plenty of momentum. @michaelcabral2560 Set 3 had good Limited momentum, but so much of the hype around leaders and certain builds was so damped and demoralized by, "okay but this has no Boba answers/Boba just does it better." That's a problem. If you wanna see the evidence of how much hype this just injected, take a look at all the deck brewing channels in different discords that just lit up like crazy as soon as Boba suspension was announced.
