  • More than 40 years after iconic daredevil Evel Knievel famously failed to jump Snake River Canyon in southern Idaho, Eddie Braun soared 2,000 feet in the air to complete the feat. Here's Danielle Nottingham with the story.

    My wife is a huge Evel Knievel fan, she had all of his toys. We just visited the jump sight. If you are ever in Twin Falls, you have to see it for yourself. What runs through your mind while standing there is surprising.

    I was 13 yrs old when Knievel had attempted this jump and I remember the disappointment of my childhood Daredevil hero had failed, and leaving unpaid debts and Trash from bikers that supposedly left this beautiful farm landscape a disaster? I'm Glad That this Great Stuntman went out with a victory and closure for the late Knievel!!

    We just watched the documentary on Disney Plus released this year. Excellent footage of the entire event including inside the sky cycle.

    Eddie, Thank You for this! Evel could have made this! But, a parachute malfunction caused it to not work! Your jump, proved, it could have been done! Hat's off to you, and how you proved Evel, could have made this jump! Plus, it shows the Balls Evel had, to try this! R.I.P. Evel, you are, and will always be my Hero! And to you Sir, Eddie, you are as well......! Thank You Both!!!!!!!

    The photo they used at the start wasn't Eddie Braun. It was Evel Knievel's son Robbie.

    a jump is when you get a running start and your momentum carries you over.

      Yup...I have long wondered why this has been termed a 'jump?' More like a flight.

    12 yrs old at the time. This event was as big/hyped as Neal Armstrong setting foot on the moon at the time!!!
    I admit I felt super gypped and suspected fake shoot deployment. Today we have gyps, hypes, and fakes thrown at us daily - I'll just leave it there.

    When I was in Twin Falls 20 years ago I was told that Knievel's parachute was programmed to open early because, while they had an event permit for the Twin Falls side of the Snake River, the other side, a different county, denied them. Had he landed on that side he would have been arrested.

    • @Gamzor
      @Gamzor Год назад +1

      this is totally false. and theres no progamming anything on that tin can. the lever was ducktaped back. Bob Truax design testing was at fault.

    • @johnwelsh2769
      @johnwelsh2769 Год назад +1

      @@Gamzor Bingo! And if the jump would have ended in an arrest, Knievel would have loved it.

      The steam exhaust and air drag yanked the lid off the parachute container. He actually made it over the other side but a wind blew up, carrying it back towards the launch side. For this attempt they made certain the lid would stay on the parachute until released manually.
