Exactly the wrong way to set up AutoCAD Layout ! The layout depicts actual paper sizes - you don't create a layout and then scale/stretch borders to suit - that's not how it works. Layouts are for real printable paper sizes like A1, A2, A3 etc etc You draw or import a standard paper size in layout at the size you want to print. Add border, title whatever - That's why it used to be called PaperSpace ! Then you use a viewport and set it to the scale you want to print the model at. Good point earlier about non-plotting layer for a viewport - turn the plot layer off. I always set my viewport layer to color 30 Once the viewport and layout are scaled and aligned properly then lock the view port so it doesn't get changed by accident. You can scale the viewport easily by clicking on the edge of it and changing the scale in properties.
I want to ask you about the autocad preview. How to preview a paper (whatever size) in autocad as it would be in reality? For instance, let's say I want to print in a A0 size paper but I am not sure if the text is big enough. I don't want waste this big sized paper just to test if the text is readable. I remember in autocad 2007 you could preview the actual size of the paper as well. In this way you could change the scale or the text size or the lineweight before you print it.

The weakness of page layout in auto cad is its crazy slow and not manageable in easy way ....damn its hard till now. When you go in complex drawing its become more slow when you want revert back model to paper,or the other way around n back.
AutoCAD's speed on your machine is predominantly decided by the amount of RAM it can access and use. So if you have a good spec'ed machine, and AutoCAD is still quite slow, please check the amount of ram on the system and see if you could increase it, or close off other programs so AutoCAD could use more ram. Chrome is infamous because it guzzles up RAM, but the ones complaining about it have almost never used a vector drawing and 3D modeling program. ;P

What to do if offset dimensions is looking small as compared to the same drawing on diff page..for e.g in original drawing 13" offset is looking larger as compared to the same drawing on diff page with same 13" offset is looking smaller...please help

Go to layer manager and select all layer, on plotstyle tab make all (normal, color, default, etc) to Black. For lineweight, choose layer you need to change lineweight, then on lineweight tab, type in desired line thickness. After, issue command regenall. Or, page plot setup, select correct .ctb or .stb

So...do you think every commenter is using a genuine version of ACAD? Nope! So, maybe you should state this ALSO applies to whatever versions of IntelliCAD (AviCAD, ProgeCAD, CMS,... ) a viewer might actually BUY for themselves. ACAD has become a greedy monster (I've been using CAD since '79, MicroStation first. whewww). I'm switching to IntelliCAD for that reason. It's GUI is 99% similar to ACAD! Trial test those mentioned CAD-alternatives, & see.

When I check the dimension of the white page in the layout, The dimensions displayed is different from what I set up in Page setup manager. For example, in page setup manager if I set it to be 210 X 297 mm , The dimension of the white page between those dotted margins shows 22'X 16'-9'' instead of 8.3'' X 11.7''. What am I doing wrong?

@@Axilleas1 The Plot command has a preview option in the bottom left hand corner. You can use this option in both Model and Layout view.

You can hide viewport border by placing a viewport on a new layer where you click to disable the print symbol on layer property list =)
Ok, so how do I remove a viewport?

Type units on cad it’ll show when u want to change from inches to mm
you can change your scale in layout in to custom scale or mm layout

Please type the grid command and choose on or off. If dynamic input is not enabled, use the command line for entering the command.

In AutoCAD Layout sheet , important difference text in different positions, in change in Excel sheet and automatic change in cad layout file.
