Hey I watched both videos. They are great, but what happened to the rest of rebuilding the engine and the head gasket. I need to do this job but I also have to replace my freeze plugs, where are those?
Where's part 3? I need to know proper orientation of the rod to the piston on my 04, and if it carries through both banks since I didn't check it on disassembly. I was in a hurry. Can't find anything really definitive written, so looking for visual cues (while trying to avoid a junkyard trip).
My 04 had that. Hydraulic tensioner failure. Chain raking across upper cassette pivot. It had been doing it for a while. Chain had almost cut halfway through it.
How would you replace the lifters on this engine after you have the valve covers off what’s next ? I have this exact engine with bad lifters they make a bad sound when idling
100% safe its removing the cams, there is other way but you might skip the timing or break a camshaft cap!! try a lifter noise liquid and if dont work,then the while engine is coming down,and since engine is out then replace timing chain kit and the lifters! Most likely it's time for the timing chains to be replaced anyways

You have to wonder why. It has to be for ease of manufacturing. Using tbe same head on both sides of the engine. In the mean time I'm stuck with an Explorer that is not worth fixing. It's a shame.

So you can take the camshaft bolt without needing the special tools???

question.. why are you giving links for GM parts? what about the for 4.0 motor that you just disassembled?
I have a 2007 4x4 its making some noise at low idle that could be the cassettes. It's more of a chatter than rattle

For the 4.0 v6,pvc is or mine is firewall end of valve cover,on drivers side.

One of the best badly built engines out there. If it wasn’t for that stupid timing gear design, the dang thing would run forever.

THat engine is more German than the BMW in front of it. It is built in Germany

This 4.0 with chain in front and back NO THEY ARE NOT-- STAY AWAY FROM ANY CAR WITH THAT ENGINE ON IT!!!
